| Melf | posted 27-Mar-2006 1:40am The best I've seen is either Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet or Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I've seen all the Harry Potter movies so far, but that one stuck closest to the book. |
| Enheduanna | posted 27-Mar-2006 2:23am The Orchid Thief, which was made into the movie Adaptation.
The Last Temptation of Christ is also excellent; it's my favorite movie. But I didn't like the book nearly as much as the movie, so I'm not sure how I'd vote for it as an adapted screenplay. It departs from the book in a lot of major ways, although I think they're good ways. |

| LuridHope | posted 27-Mar-2006 2:45pm Amistad is really an eccelent adaptation from the book. One of the best I've seen.
Most Shakespeare plays tranlate very well to screen. |
| Amanda | posted 27-Mar-2006 2:56pm Um.....I don't know. There's a lot of pretty good ones. |
| Enigma | posted 27-Mar-2006 4:01pm I thought The Dead Zone (yes the movie, not the tv show I haven't seen it) was a great adaptation of the Stephen King novel. Usually I don't enjoy movies based on his books but I heard David Cronenberg made King mad by not accepting his input. I don't know if that's true or not but it may be why I liked it so much. That's the one that came springing to mind anyway. |
| ElvisFan67 | posted 27-Mar-2006 7:08pm One of my favorites, Lolita. |
| busybaker | posted 28-Mar-2006 1:29am I don't really keep track if a movie I've watched is adapted from a book. I really don't care if it is or not. |
| autumnlight | posted 28-Mar-2006 6:14am I loved the way Luhrmann's Romeoand juliet was done. I'm sure there's more but I can't think of any others. |
| cloudhugger | posted 28-Mar-2006 10:47am I don't know, I am unawares. |
| Iseult | posted 28-Mar-2006 12:28pm I don't really know. I haven't read all that many books that have been turned into a movie, or vice versa.
The one I am most familiar with is the Harry Potter series, however, I have so many problems with what they did with movie version. |
| Zang | posted 28-Mar-2006 7:39pm "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" comes to mind... |
| gambler | posted 29-Mar-2006 5:52pm Very few live up to the book......... the exception I can think of is probably Silence of the lambs |
| RGirl | (reply to gambler) posted 30-Mar-2006 1:10am That was a good one. |
| bcollins | posted 31-Mar-2006 2:44pm I watch a movie because I want to see it. I don't really care if it's an adapted screenplay or something made up completely by someone. |
| gsummers | posted 2-Apr-2006 8:07pm Lord of the Rings was the best I think.
