| RGirl | posted 22-Mar-2006 1:56am Let me think........mmmmmmmm.........YES!!! |
| cabinfever | posted 22-Mar-2006 2:35am Yes, especially since I'd most likely have my little girl with me. But since there isn't one elevator in this burg, and the ones I ride in back home are in concrete buildings, that is not a huge concern. |
| longhaultrucker | posted 22-Mar-2006 2:55am well yeah !!! |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 22-Mar-2006 2:58am No, but I seldom ride in an elevator unless I'm at the library and I need to go to one of the upper floors to get a book. Otherwise, I don't ride in elevators. |
| Irene007 | posted 22-Mar-2006 5:56am No crap, Sherlock!! |
| cloudhugger | posted 22-Mar-2006 6:26am Yes. |
| kirst | posted 22-Mar-2006 7:40am Yes. Why wouldn't I be? |
| bill | posted 22-Mar-2006 8:11am um, yes... I'd be scared to be anywhere in a building while it was on fire though. An elevator does seem particularly bad, though. I don't worry about this situation happening to me, though. |
| Shadow_Matt | posted 22-Mar-2006 9:27am you can fall and drop to your death.......... but it can be worse |
| they | posted 22-Mar-2006 10:45am Well, YEAH. |
| romkey | posted 22-Mar-2006 11:03am Yes, of course I would. |
| Enheduanna | posted 22-Mar-2006 12:09pm Yes. |
| shorty189 | posted 22-Mar-2006 1:58pm Yes. I would start praying. |
| Bilateralkitty | posted 22-Mar-2006 2:00pm My cousin works for Otis Corp. He said that in the event of a fire alarm going off most elevators are designed to stop at the next floor, open doors and lock open until a firefighter places the same into fire service via the key access you see in the car and/or on the control panel on the main floor. The elevator is the LAST PLACE you want to be in during a structure fire. The elevator shaft acts as a chimney for toxic fumes and anyone trapped in an malfunctioning elevator during a fire has only a 20% chance of making it out alive at best. |
| Amanda | posted 22-Mar-2006 2:22pm Well, yeah. |
| jduPres | posted 22-Mar-2006 2:33pm I don't think I've been in an elevator in more than ten years. None of the places I go to have them, but I'm certain that I wouldn't be too happy if I was in this situation. I'm a touch claustrophobic anyway, so I only use elevators as a last resort and use the stairs if where I'm going isn't too many flights up. |
| LuridHope | posted 22-Mar-2006 3:05pm ...I don't know if scared would be the right term to describe how I would feel about it.
I'm really paranoid about little things, but in major crisis I tend to be at my best. I would probably do my best to get out with a clear head, if I was really trapped I would probably be more angry than afraid. |
| LuridHope | (reply to longhaultrucker) posted 22-Mar-2006 3:05pm Good one Trucker! |

| ultamate | posted 22-Mar-2006 8:12pm is there someone who wouldn't? |
| Iseult | posted 22-Mar-2006 9:04pm No. |
| llamamama | posted 22-Mar-2006 10:21pm Yes...I get scared when I fool around in them and keep pushing all the buttons..and not getting off..But that doesn't happen until the 12th time of doing that..so, eh. |
| Enigma | posted 22-Mar-2006 10:21pm Well I guess so! |
| CarolL | posted 23-Mar-2006 12:08am Yes, I would. I would really like to know why someone wouldn't. Geez. |
| CarolL | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:12am No? If it happened that you were in an elevator and there was a fire, you wouldn't be scared? Let's say you actually left your town and were in a building where there was just no choice except to be in an elevator for whatever reason. No? I have yet to see a warning that tells people to run to the nearest elevator in case of fire. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to CarolL) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:15am From what I understand, the elevators automatically go to the nearest floor (there are three floors at the library) and open the doors so you can exit. As to your scenario, I'm not certain. |
| CarolL | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:19am I would just be so scared.......I'd rather be on the floor already |
| CarolL | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:19am kate, want to meet me in chat?
|
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to CarolL) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:29am Yeah, I can understand that. |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to CarolL) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:31am > kate, want to meet me in chat?
> Sorry, I really dislike chatrooms, but you can always send me a private reply if you want to talk without others reading your comments. |
| CarolL | (reply to darkshadowsseeker) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:34am No, I was just lonely 's'all |
| darkshadowsseeker | (reply to CarolL) posted 23-Mar-2006 12:44am I'm sorry. |
| longhaultrucker | (reply to LuridHope) posted 23-Mar-2006 3:32am I don't get scared too easy but stuck in a elevator will scare me, i would rather walk up 30 stories of stairs and take 1 hour then ride in a elevator that takes 2 minutes just to avoid that 1 in a 790,000 chance of getting stuck in it during a fire or fire alarm, |
| longhaultrucker | (reply to LuridHope) posted 23-Mar-2006 3:35am I could be wrong and if anyone can correct me, when a fire alarm is turned on, the elevator stops right where it is? it is worse if the elevator cable snaps......... |
| wezlee1982 | posted 23-Mar-2006 6:10am Yes |
| ROCKMAN | posted 23-Mar-2006 6:12am I'd be a little worried. I think I could/would find a way out though. |
| netninja | posted 23-Mar-2006 7:02am No, there is no place I would rather be than in an elevator while there is a fire going on. Infact, next time there is a fire I will head for the nearest elevator and hope that I don't die. I wouldn't even attempt to get out of the burning building, because I know elevators are the safest place to be when a building is on fire.
Yes. I am being sarcastic. |
| teatree | posted 23-Mar-2006 12:01pm I don't ride in elevators. I'm claustrophobic. |
| Wackadoo | posted 23-Mar-2006 12:31pm Is the fire in the same building as the elevator? |
| MiniMary | posted 23-Mar-2006 3:02pm No, I would be thrilled to death. What fun!!! |
| thecomic22 | posted 23-Mar-2006 3:39pm nah, cause after seeing that lady in final destination 2 get her head ripped of her body by one, i think there are without a doubt worse ways to go!!! |
