No operation as a child. As an adult, 2.

Since I was two weeks old at the time, I doubt I was told anything.

I had surgery for a broken arm once, but I've never had any type of major surgery where I had to go under the knife.

It was an emergency surgery.

I was pretty much told as I was being wheeled in.

I had my tonsils removed when I was about 5 or 6. I was told that I'd have loads of ice cream. The ice cream was meant to soothe the pain, and it must've worked because I remember the ice cream part, but not the pain.

The "just count to ten" part I really love, when you feel the anesthesia doing its stuff, and you're on your way to la-la land. A major cool moment. I'd get surgery done just for that.

I have never had an operation or surgery. What's the difference between an operation and surgery, anyway?

I was told that aliens came one night and replaced my brain with a synthetic brain and that is why I am crazy.

I didn't think so, but then I thought perhaps there was some subtle nuance I wasn't aware of.

I had an operation when I was about 13 so I was certainly old enough to know everything. Did you mean if someone was like under eight years old?

Perhaps a hysterectomy as a little girl I suspect at times

I was told that a magic fairy would come and send me off to sleepy bye land and then when I awoke I could have all the Jell-O and ice cream I wanted! * smile *

The really weird thing was that I was 37 at the time and I was getting a vasectomy! * wry smile *

This reminds me of the tooth fairy and a story being told about my tooth and leaving my tooth on my pillow and getting some money for it in plenty of purse change

I was told it was necessary and I should not be too concerned. The truth was that there was little hope for me but this was the only chance.

I really wish I remembered the feeling of the anesthesia kicking in, but it was years ago; I was getting grommets. I do remember some kindly dark man with thin rimmed glasses leaning over me, saying it though.

I've had 3-4 surgeries where I was put under, the last one being about a year ago, and I remember trying to fight the anesthesia, but quickly, and happily giving up. I wish going to bed every night were that comfortable. I'm not saying that I would drug myself to sleep, but if that feeling could come naturally, it would be bliss!

They help to cure glue ear. I thought that it was some kind of hearing aid when I was little, but they're small tubes that are put inside children's ears to help drain away sticky fluid that is trapped there.

I didn't have anything I couldn't figure out myself - like the time I got stitches when my brother accidently hit me with a golf club on the ear. I didn't need to be told anything about it - I kinda knew...

 * laughing out loud * That reminds me of the time Ben went under the knife for the same thing. As he walked out of the doctor's office, the nurse asked him something and he replied in a high, squeaky voice so that all the other men in the waiting room could hear him say that it didn't hurt at all. I nearly peed my pants!! God! He had such a wicked sense of humour! * grin *

 * wry smile * I should have known... The procedure is done with a local anesthetic - I know 'cause my story was the truth and I was there!
It was funny because I asked the doctor if I could watch him but he refused because he didn't have an attendant to tend to me in case I fainted! * rolls eyes * So I sat in his office with a grim face watching him getting the stuff ready and then he realized that he had his sterile gloves on when he needed to touch a non-sterile bottle in order to fill the syringe... He smiled at me and asked me to help him. * laughing out loud * I happened to be dressed all in white that day so I kind of fit in the picture. I cringed a little when he started cutting "my jewels" but then became quite fascinated by the whole procedure; all the while the doc is telling me this and that like I was a med student and poor Ben was starting to feel like a bug under a microscope - we had forgotten that there was a man attached to them balls! All in all, it was an interesting day...

I don't remember. I was only 2. But I do remember the aftermath.

I broke my arm when I was 11 & they said they needed to go in to fix it because I broke it right on the growth-plate.
