No. Don't care for anything that has to do with cars. The things are always in my way as a pedestrian and one can't take photos in an urban setting without there being a car or cars in the picture. |

Yes, I adore Nascar. I used to be a big Bobby Labonte fan, but am now more into Tony Stewart. I still like Bobby, though. I'm also getting into Carl Edwards. He's done a great job so far.
The Daytona 500 was an awesome race. Best one I've seen in a long time. Stewart needs to tone it down a tad, though. He's going to lose a lot of fans if he keeps pulling that crap like he did with Kenseth. |

Yeah, I love Tony and his take no crap attitude. He did Kenseth wrong. But sometimes that's just racing. I miss big Dale a lot. That race was good, Tony did a good job there when he got sideways and got back on the track. I think it is a great sport, I mean come on these guys have guts to do what they do. Going 200 miles an hour racing against 42other drivers. I have been to Bristol 5 times it was awesome. I like Tony's aggressive driving style, he cracks me up when he loses his temper. That just makes it more interesting to watch |

I don't dislike it, but I don't watch it or keep up with who is who. If my son is cranky and fighting sleep or something, I put it on the speed channel and he calms down. Usually watching drag racing, nascar or monster trucks. So in the sense that it quiets a crying toddler, yeah, I like NASCAR. |

NASCAR is for southern hillbillies who swill beer, watch WWF, listen to country music and attend tractor pulls. Yeah, it's gotten more mainstream but it is still something created many years ago by the moonshiners and the government agents who were trying to catch them. |

Yes, Tony's temper makes it a lot more fun. You never know what he will say or do next. I also like his aggressive driving style, but he totally over did it Sunday. What made it worse is that earlier in the week, he'd talked about how drivers get so aggressive at Daytona and that they need to think of each others lives. Then, he turns around and pulls that stunt. He did crack me up in his after race interview. Saying Kenseth started it and he finished it. Oh, and did you see him flip the in car camera around? A total Tony thing to do.
You've been to Bristol? I'm so jealous. There's a group of people going to Texas this spring, but I can't afford it. Maybe next time. |
| ultamate | | posted 21-Feb-2006 5:14pm |

It is expensive. My husband won tickets last year, where he works at. He did do Kenseth wrong. But that's just Tony. I kinda like Kenseth, he's not a bad guy. I didn't get to see the after race interview. When did he flip the in car camera around? I was busy cleaning house , and trying to watch it at the same time My husband wants to go to Daytona so bad he can't stand it. |

Right after they penalized him for the Kenseth thing, they went to his in car camera. I guess he saw it on the screens. Anyhow, he reached up and flipped the camera around, so you couldn't see him. I like Kenseth pretty well, too. He's a good driver. He just whines too much! |
| blondie20 | | (reply to Amanda) posted 21-Feb-2006 5:27pm |
That sounds like something Tony would do I missed that one. I agree Kenseth does whine too much, but he's a good driver. |

Well, I was a huge fan until about 2, 3 years ago when it got incredibly boring. Mind you, I do admire Ferrari and Schumacher for doing so great, but like I said, it got a bit predictable. I did however visit the races at Spa in 2004 and the Nurburgring in 2003.
I follow the Dutch racers (Albers and Doornbos) and have a weak spot for Ferrari. But I'm also an Alonso fan. He was amazing last season.
Your boyfriend is a racer, isn't he? |
| autumnlight | | (reply to Maarten) posted 22-Feb-2006 1:11pm |
Yeah, it did get a bit boring with Schumacher winning everything - it's got better this year with the new rules. There are a few competitive tems now which is good. There's no way I could afford to go to a race - it's so expensive!
Yeah Paul races Formula TKM, which is the very very first step on the motorsport ladder. Unfortunately motorsport seems to be about who you know and how much money you have - so he doesn't stand mauch of a chance of progressing though he came 2nd in the championship last year. He's getting televised though this year so he might get better sponsorship. |
Maarten |
Yes, unfortunately money is everything. After that comes money and last but not least money. Even in F1 you have to bring millions to be able to race.
We have BBC here. Is Formula TKM ever on BBC? |

I like racing/NASCAR-like VIDEO GAMES. But the actual "sport" of them going around in a circle, *big yawn*. Maybe if NASCAR-the-'sport' resembled NASCAR-the-video-game I would get into it. But thats just me. |
| autumnlight | | (reply to Maarten) posted 25-Feb-2006 6:14am |
Not on BBC unfortunately, it's only just got on Motors TV, which is only on Sky I think so Paul can't even watch himself!
It's one thing that's sad about F1 that it isn't the most talented people in the world that are racing, but those that can afford it. |
Maarten |
That's so true and, like you said, so sad. |

To be honest I did attend stock car racing alot when I was in college. That was only because my cousin owned and raced the car and I did the paint job on it.

The history of NASCAR is accurate in that a moonshiner had to "race" away from ATF agents in the roaring 20's. The south isn't full of the hick stereotypes everyone believes. I'm from Boston and have visited several times to see my family in Alabama. They live in nice houses, have satellite dishes and live in the same America that everyone (in America) lives in. I hate seeing the south as one wide open "Deliverance" state but it isn't. In fact I think the south is more desirable to live because the people are nicer than up here, they aren't crazy drivers, they're initially nice unlike the Mass- holes that live here in this snooty state. Also, a house that goes for $800,000 here would go for $200,000 anywhere else in America.
P.S. The south isn't as racist as up here believe it or not. The local mentality is "Embrace the poor and the minorities. (Just keep them away from me.)" |
| cerealkiller |
Uh, you must not get out much down there. I lived in Mississippi/Alabama for a period of time. Blacks were still called 'niggers', they threw them in jail if they dared to venture out after 10 pm, I could go on and on. Sure, a house costs less there but it wasn't worth living in a place that hasn't matured since the Civil War. |

I used to love NASCAR, back before it went commercial. Now it is just a money game. The cars aren't stock and the cars go too fast to see. Wrecks are way too violent. Dirt track is more
interesting and competitive. In the old days, you could see the hole in the dash where the radio had been. They were really stock. Now, every year they change the sheet metal on a car and declare it a "200X" model. Ford raced a Taurus that was rearwheel drive and two-door. They never made a rearwheel drive twodoor Taurus. Ditto for Chev and Chrysler. Toyota is now coming in and they will end up dominating anyway. |

I have always suspected that California had it's share of bigots too. Thank you for your confirmation of that fact by your stupid opinon. Are there any other ethnic groups you
particularily dislike? Have you always been a bigot? |
| Porcupine |
OK, question, Have you ever heard of anyone in Alabama retiring and moving to the North?
Have you ever heard of anyone in the North retiring and moving to the South? Sadly, all too
often it is a fact. I don't know where you lived in Alabama but you seem preoccupied with Race and Race issues. The "Civil War" as you call it had nothing to do with the maturity of the people in the area. You sound like you are in desperate need of a history lesson. Did you ever graduate from highschool? Your ignorance is appalling. |

I used to. As a matter of fact, I once loved it. It consumed me to the point I couldn't bear to miss a single lap every Sunday. But it has gotten so commercialized. And the rules and guidelines have changed so dramasticly in the last 5 years that I do not care about it what so ever now. In fact, I haven't watched so much as a lap since Rusty Wallace retired. I never imagined the sport would change so much to change my opinion the way it has. I used to be a die hard Davey Allison fan. When he died I started pulling for Rusty Wallace. The only reason I watched any racing after it went to Nextel Cup was Rusty. If he had a DNF, I turned it off. The sport I once loved started dying on February 18, 2001. If Dale Earnhardt were here, the sport would still be worth watching. Because he believed in true, fender-banging, wide open, hardcore racing. And he was the first to buck up when they would try to change any rules that might take something away from that. Yes, I'm a true Rusty fan. And yes, most of the ninety's I maliciously despised Earnhardt. ( Any fans from that era knows the extent of that rivalry ). But, as much as that rivalry meant to me, Earnhardt was the best. And the suits upstairs payed attention to his views. And he fought hard for the true sport of NASCAR. I will not only record in my little history book that Feb. 18, 2001 was the day Earnhardt died, but the day NASCAR died! |
