| Enheduanna | posted 10-Feb-2006 12:18pm Maybe. It's possible that I have been and am totally unaware of it. I know of one or two people who look up to me in certain regards, but it's not idolizing or hero-worship. I've never gotten the impression that someone idolized me in an all-encompassing way. |
| bill | posted 10-Feb-2006 1:01pm I doubt it. I take pains to expose my flaws to everyone around me as often as possible. I guess I'm kind of against the idea of idols and heroes. No one is that perfect. Be your own idol/hero! |
| southernyankee | posted 10-Feb-2006 1:08pm I doubt it. If I was a parent of someone who has me as an idol, I'd be kinda worried |
| Enigma | posted 10-Feb-2006 1:27pm I don't know about idol or hero but I know my little cousin just thinks I'm da bomb. |
| Maarten | posted 10-Feb-2006 2:50pm I'm Laura's hero.
"Daddy can do anything", she says. |
| Maarten | (reply to bill) posted 10-Feb-2006 2:53pm Some people here think you're God, so go figure.
I don't. I just think you look like Jesus. |
| Maarten | posted 10-Feb-2006 2:55pm Talking about Jesus. This one rocks! ![]() |
| cabinfever | posted 10-Feb-2006 3:04pm I have something else to say..... my daughter likes to imitate me in almost everything. Speech, the way I pick things up to look at them, even the way I kneel down to pick something up. Sometimes it's exasperating when I kneel down to be on her level (i.e. to comb her hair) and she kneels down like me |
| Hans | posted 10-Feb-2006 3:45pm My daughter's when she was three! |

| Maarten | (reply to bill) posted 10-Feb-2006 4:03pm I rest my case. |
| cloudhugger | posted 10-Feb-2006 6:14pm Yes. Never lasts tho. If it is lasting I am unaware of it. I think my mom may look at me like that on occasion, *shudder* (don't want tht) |

| Iseult | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 10-Feb-2006 6:24pm Wait till you become a Professor - you'll have a lot of people idolizing you. |
| RGirl | posted 10-Feb-2006 6:43pm No. It's generally the other way around. |
| shorty189 | posted 10-Feb-2006 8:38pm I don't know! I don't go around asking.

| Amanda | posted 10-Feb-2006 9:03pm I don't know. Caleb looks up to me, but I think that's just the typical mother/child relationship. My oldest niece thinks I'm awesome, but I think that's more because I've helped her cover up a lot from her dad (my brother). |
| blondie20 | posted 10-Feb-2006 9:26pm I don't know |
| llamamama | posted 10-Feb-2006 9:27pm Well..it depends..are you counting when my friends and I randomly shout out..''YOU'RE MY HERO!" ? If so, then yes. |
| Enheduanna | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 10-Feb-2006 10:25pm |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Iseult) posted 10-Feb-2006 10:27pm Or hating me. It can work both ways! |
| FauxLo | posted 10-Feb-2006 11:51pm Years ago, a little cousin of mine told me, "You're my idol." |
| cabinfever | (reply to Hans) posted 11-Feb-2006 1:26am HA! Exactly... my daughter is three. I'm her best friend, other than the cat. And Daddy when he's home. |
| longhaultrucker | posted 11-Feb-2006 3:04am Hell no |
| Hans | (reply to cabinfever) posted 11-Feb-2006 12:49pm Enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Iseult | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 11-Feb-2006 1:16pm But there are always people you, no matter what you do (even if you don't do anything). |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Iseult) posted 11-Feb-2006 1:18pm That's true. And I certainly look forward to the day when I am idolized by students! |
| cabinfever | (reply to Hans) posted 11-Feb-2006 2:51pm I'm trying to.... but sometimes it's pretty hard on the patience... I rarely have a minute to myself anymore. I keep reminding myself that in five or six years, I'll be wishing I was still her hero... I just wish I could get a day off every once in a while! |
| Hans | (reply to cabinfever) posted 11-Feb-2006 3:04pm I remember that now when you say it. The good thing is that only the fond memories "really" survive! I remember I was several times really annoyed when she cried loudly for (as it seemed) no reason at all, destroying precious hours which should have been recreative. Why on earth this is now the sweetest music in my memory?? I think nature is very wise. |
| Hans | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 11-Feb-2006 3:07pm My impression is that, in the first line, those are idolized by students who never thought about being idolized by students. |
| cabinfever | (reply to Hans) posted 11-Feb-2006 3:11pm I know what you mean about 'fond' memories surviving. Like when she was born, I don't really remember all the labor and pain (she was 8 pounds, 10 ounces) but I do remember being very glad to see her. Nature is very wise.... has to be, or the world's population wouldn't be anywhere near what it is! |
| Hans | (reply to cabinfever) posted 11-Feb-2006 3:13pm |
| Enheduanna | (reply to Hans) posted 11-Feb-2006 3:45pm I'm sure that's mostly true. I don't actually want to be idolized by my students. It seems a little creepy. Liked, respected, perhaps feared a little, sure. But not idolized. |
| they | posted 11-Feb-2006 6:17pm Yes.... I think I'm my daughter's hero... which is scary.. it's a lot to live up to. |
| gambler | posted 11-Feb-2006 7:24pm My Kids? |
| BerrieGrrl | posted 11-Feb-2006 11:23pm i have no idea...maybe to my kids at some point? |
| ultamate | posted 12-Feb-2006 1:14pm I think at one time my son idolized me but now he just hates me most of the time. Personally I don't want to be idolized by anyone. |

| Zang | posted 12-Feb-2006 4:28pm I'm sure I've been admired...younger cousins, my nephew..."idol/hero" seems a bit much, but perhaps I'm being too modest? |

| bill | (reply to Zang) posted 12-Feb-2006 5:45pm OK, clearly I left myself open ... I've learned my lesson, never again! |
