Maybe. It's possible that I have been and am totally unaware of it. I know of one or two people who look up to me in certain regards, but it's not idolizing or hero-worship. I've never gotten the impression that someone idolized me in an all-encompassing way.

I doubt it. I take pains to expose my flaws to everyone around me as often as possible. I guess I'm kind of against the idea of idols and heroes. No one is that perfect. Be your own idol/hero!

I doubt it. If I was a parent of someone who has me as an idol, I'd be kinda worried * wry smile *

I'm Laura's hero.

"Daddy can do anything", she says. * smile *

Some people here think you're God, so go figure.

I don't. I just think you look like Jesus.

I have something else to say..... my daughter likes to imitate me in almost everything. Speech, the way I pick things up to look at them, even the way I kneel down to pick something up. Sometimes it's exasperating when I kneel down to be on her level (i.e. to comb her hair) and she kneels down like me * rolls eyes * . When something breaks, she runs to me and asks me to fix it. But all of that is being a mommy... and I think most mothers are idolized for some time by their offspring.

Wait till you become a Professor - you'll have a lot of people idolizing you.

I don't know. Caleb looks up to me, but I think that's just the typical mother/child relationship. My oldest niece thinks I'm awesome, but I think that's more because I've helped her cover up a lot from her dad (my brother).

I'm trying to.... but sometimes it's pretty hard on the patience... I rarely have a minute to myself anymore. I keep reminding myself that in five or six years, I'll be wishing I was still her hero... I just wish I could get a day off every once in a while!

I remember that now when you say it. The good thing is that only the fond memories "really" survive! I remember I was several times really annoyed when she cried loudly for (as it seemed) no reason at all, destroying precious hours which should have been recreative. Why on earth this is now the sweetest music in my memory?? I think nature is very wise.

My impression is that, in the first line, those are idolized by students who never thought about being idolized by students.

I know what you mean about 'fond' memories surviving. Like when she was born, I don't really remember all the labor and pain (she was 8 pounds, 10 ounces) but I do remember being very glad to see her. Nature is very wise.... has to be, or the world's population wouldn't be anywhere near what it is! * laughing out loud *

I'm sure that's mostly true. I don't actually want to be idolized by my students. It seems a little creepy. Liked, respected, perhaps feared a little, sure. But not idolized.

I'm sure I've been admired...younger cousins, my nephew..."idol/hero" seems a bit much, but perhaps I'm being too modest?
