Seriously pretends to be an animal? Like Stephanie Plum's niece in the Janet Evanovich books? No. Claire likes to pretend a lot but it's only that: pretend play.

I don't have children, but I work/study in day-cares. I see this all the time, usually kids aged 2-6. I've seen it last anywhere from an hour to 4 days (it may last longer than that in the child's home, however). Today one girl pretended to be a horse for the entire day; On Monday I'll have to ask her parents if she kept it up through the weekend.

No kids. I've gone through a phase where I treat my animals like they're my kids, though, if that counts! (I guess I'm still in that phase!)

I've seen small children pretend to be dogs... it's creepy and I didn't particularly like it.

yes, right now...my daughter is a kitty most of the time...sometimes she's a kitty named coco, and sometimes she's my boyfriend's cat, hades. but she meows and the whole bit. one day the phone rang and she said, "the kitty will get it!" and ran to the phone. by the time i got to her she had already picked up the receiver and was saying "meow meow" instead of hello...pretty hilarious. occasionally she's other animals, but more often than not she's a kitty.

I picture a bunch of kids on all fours surrounding solo, barking at him, and biting his legs as he leaves his house. Is that how it went, Solo?

No... as I recall, I picked my nose and wiped a booger on her face, and that sent her screaming.

Disturbance terminated.

My son Andy who is now eight years old is always a different animal.....sometimes he is a dinosaur, sometimes a dog, sometimes a cougar. Today he was a cat named Ray! I don't know why, he is just a kid with a HUGE imagination......I have always fostered that in him. He can play with a rock and a stick for three hours in the back yard. He can make any sound effect you can think of even though he is tongue-tied! Go Ray!!!!!

Yes, but not intentionally. At the moment she does a very good impression of a meerkat - she's mastered standing up and staring intently.

I have no children but when my younger brother was about 3 he was pretending to be a dog with our dog. Well, our dog went under the bed and fell asleep. My brother went with. My mother couldn't find him anywhere. She called the police, the neighbors are searching. The police told my mom to do one more check in the house. There he was, with the dog, sound asleep.

It's not funny, yet hilarious at the same time. I'll et the police were relieved more than upset about losing time and money over that one.

My cousin always watched the Disney movies with animals in, for example, 'The Lion King' and he'd pretend he was Simba, he used to run around roaring on four legs, at top speed might I add. He used to climb trees and bathe in the sun like the lions would do. He once went through a phase of pretending to be a Velociraptor, off the film Jurrasic Park... THAT was creepy! Hiding out in his gloomy house while I could hear his pretending to breathe like a dinosaur, was so life like! o_0

This survey was inspired by my three-year-old girl who loves animals, and lately has been pretending she is a cat or a horse. Depends on which movie she just saw, or if our cat is in the house, she'll follow him around and do what he does. It bothers my hubby, but I think it's cute... she's not hurting anyone or herself, and she's keeping herself entertained in an imaginative way.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I HATE kids.

I'm beginning to think you hate everything, Solo. Wiping boogers on a child is just so tasteless, no matter what you think of them. I don't like my sister-in-law or her kids, but I don't throw or wipe bodily waste on them.

 * laughing out loud * You're just now beginning to think that I hate everything? Just now? * laughing out loud *

All kinds of folks find different things tasteless and offensive... I never said that what I do is for everyone. Some folks raise their kids to believe that there are magical, mystical, god-like creatures that exist (i.e. god, the tooth fairy, the easter bunny, Santa Claus), in addition to hundreds of other insane and distasteful things (like allowing the television to raise your child). I think that's far more tasteless than anything that I've ever done, but that's also just my opinion.

Well, I didn't really think you hated everything... does that include all your fellow SC'ers? You talk about how suffering bothers you, but then you do something so degrading to a child. You do realize it's small things like that, that a child remembers forever? It's not just the big things...

So anyways, are you planning on reading the other LOTR books?
