On the serious side, if roadside bombs were a fact of life where you lived, how would it affect you?

It's in the news every day, but most of us are out of harm's way. How would you react to the possibility that you could be maimed or blown to bits every time you left your house?

On the serious side? I'd get a mountain bike and go for a picnic.

When I lived in Israel, this was a real issue for me, although the concern was with suicide bombers on buses. I took cabs sometimes, if I was feeling particularly worried, and I learned to be aware of what was going on around me when I took the bus. Most of the time, I tried not to bee too paranoid about it, because ultimately you have to go on living your life and not be paralyzed by fear. But in the end it was too much and I left. I didn't like the fact that in Israel, you basically just had to get back to business as usual as soon as possible after a bomb. If roadside bombs became an issue where I live, though, I would probably have the same kind of reaction. I'd be careful, but I'd go about my life.

I was in Iraq. You think twice before venturing out, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

I'd be scared and hesitant to leave home unless it was absolutely necessary.

If it were a fact of life I'm sure life would go on with that realization. There are a great many people living with the knowledge that they could go for a coffee at the corner shop and be blown to bits. It changes the way a person looks at life I'm sure.

I would hate to have to live with that threat. I deal with a certain level of stress in my everyday life, and I can't imagine having to wonder whether some god-obsessed suicidal nut will pop out of the woodwork and offer me an all-expense paid trip to meet my maker.

I did some time in the military, and part of my training involved explosives and demolition. I know the damage a well-placed charge can do. Part of my training also involved mine clearing. Mine clearing is the definition of stressful. I wouldn't want to deal with that level of stress every day.

Worried, especially since I'm out and about all over the town doing my job.

Weren't you afraid that those bombs would "sexualize" your children?

I would leave the house a lot less and only for esentials and just sit on the computer all day long arguing with solo over something trivial and stupid.

Call the neighor, tell them I am sick, and ask them to run over a teaag or something. If they arrive safely, then I go out. If they low up, then I take the same path they were on already.

How's that any different from now?

um, yeah, good point.

Well, right now, I spend about one or two hours at the most on SC, if not less as soon as my classes start getting harder. If I was worried about bombs, I would go straight to the library after classes carring around with my a bag of food and make as little trips as possible. I would be doing less of other stuff like going to events and such.

One or two hours what??? ...every three hours? SY, you've been like a fly that I've been swatting at all day. Are you aware you leave a time and date stamp when you click 'Submit'?

Sure you do. Sometimes I wonder if you can chew gum and walk at the same time... and suddenly you can "multitask"? * rolls eyes *

If that were the case, we'd leave Hong Kong. We don't HAVE to live here. We could either relocate (most likely to Singapore if we stayed in Asia) or we could move back to the States. (Actually we could pretty much run our business anywhere...but Asia has the most growth so it makes sense to be here. )

I would be paranoid to leave the house, but a living has to be made and families have to be fed so i would risk it, i like excitement and a rush, but not from bombs.

Overly cautious, scared, worried. In other words, I'd probably act the same way that those who live in countries where this occurs act.
