Of course, because it helps to be ravenous around food when you eat again after that skipped meal.

I'm not on a diet. If anything, my doctor would like me to put on some weight.

No, I eat in between meals & just before going to bed, typically within 2 hours.

I'm not dieting. My problem is a lack of exersize, not an excess of food.
If I was dieting, I wouldn't skip meals, I would just eat less, and I'd start dinner by eating the salad first. Fill up on the least fattening stuff.

Not any more.

I know you get off to a better start with some breakfast, but I'm just not a morning eater. And I use to think it ok to skip breakfast and lunch in the interest of taking in less calories.

Then I learned the body actually goes into a starvation mode and will store some of what you do eat in the form of fat! So eating smaller portions at regular intervals will actually help you to achieve some weight loss!

I'm even starting to eat something light after I get up, like peanut butter on whole grain toast. I don't have a scale, but my jeans are now too loose, so I know it's working!

I'm not fat, but very short waisted so I'm always watching my tummy. I got my Mother's long legs but my Father's torso. Go figure. Face wise, I'm both, but resemble my Mother more.

I recall you saying you had children. Is it difficult for you to get sufficient exercise and keep tabs on them at the same time?

It is too cold to go outside with them. My 2 older ones are in school during the day. I'm at home with the 2 year old. It's hard to exercise while at home all day.

No. But I don't eat anything after 8 p.m., and I eat very little for supper.

I don't diet because I don't need to..Though it does annoy me that the difference between the scale at my house and the scale at my friend's house is about 10 pounds.. * wry smile *
But I do think I should eat stuff for breakfast..But I don't because 1) I wake up at 745..that gives me around 15 minutes to get up..and out the door..And 2) It makes me sick..
My mother is constantly telling me I am going to have the metabolism of a 40 year old by the time I'm 16..Gee thanks mom...

No; I just try to eat healthier food in smaller portions. Doesn't tend to work too well, since I don't have much self-control where snacking is concerned.

Yes, I do, but being a nurse I know that that is actually counter productive. Still, it's difficult to stop the association of food to fat, any food.

I'm not dieting to lose weight, I'm dieting to maintain my weight. I don't conciously skip meals, however, someone I skip them just because forget about them or don't have time for them.

Just don't buy snacks. I know that it sounds v. inane of me saying that, but what I notice a lot of people doing when they buy groceries is that they buy chips and other such things. I don't know if you do that, but anyway... what I wanted to say, have you tried snacking on low fat snacks, like vegetables or fruit?

Skipping meals is a great idea if you want to get so hungry that you then lose control and make very poor decisions about what you eat.

Skipping meals is probably the worst thing you can do. You might save calories in the immediate short run, but you have a much higher probability of becoming excessively hungry and binging in the long run. The other danger is that you run the risk of getting insufficient nutrients for maintaining your health.

No. That doesn't work. Exercise works for me. I usually eat better once I start hitting the gym.

I never buy chips. I snack on lots of fruits and vegetables, but then I might also add some nuts and some cheese and crackers or some bread with Nutella. But the biggest problem is that I have no self-control when it comes to taking otherwise-harmless ingredients and combining them into unhealthy snacks like cookies or cupcakes. I have a terrible cooking-goodies bug. It will be my downfall. * frown * I should really just not keep butter in the house. Although I'm sure I'd figure out how to use olive oil instead.

NO!!! That's like the worst thing you can do!! that would make your body go into starvation mode and it will try to hold on to whatever you do give it whenever you DO end up eating!!

I've tried different diets. The one I have the most success with is what I call my "Stop eating like a fudging pig" diet. Basically, I eat when I am hungry and at no other time. When I do eat I choose what I eat carefully avoiding crap, the simpler the better. I also keep my water intake up. Doing this I not only feel 100% better the weight just melts off. It's really really just a mental thing with me. I'm mental... see...? SO to answer your question, I do skip traditional meals but I cook them for my family and when I'm hungry, I will eat a reasonable portion.

I like it. I may try that one. Have you heard aout the McDonalds diet? I don't know if it is a scam or not, but it was on the news. This woman ate nothing but McD's and she has documented wieght she lost. She wasn't eating the reall fattening stuff there, just the salads, no fries, and regular hamburgers. I find it hard to believe she could lose weight like that, she must have really ate bad before.

I think you hit the nail on the head there! She probably overloaded on chips n'dip, pop and pre made crap before. Did you see "Supersize Me"? I know her way is different than his but man, I thought I knew the horrors of "fast food" until I saw that movie. I would never try a fast food diet.

I haven't seen the whole thing, just bits and pieces. I wonder how any one can recover from all the processing in the 'food'. I have trouble digesting one rare Happy Meal. I tried their salad and I got queasy from the chemicals they put on it to keep it fresher longer, and to taste better. Once in a while, but everyday! The body has to work pretty darn hard to eliminate McToxins.

My entire life is a diet.

I'm diabetic so I avoid certain foods...... but I've never been one for regular meals... which I know is bad for me.

Yeah. Much easier and faster than just reducing your food intake. Just stop eating till you get thin. Done it several times now. If only you could do this for muscles...

Yes. But, I also skip meals when I'm not dieting. I can't eat 3 meals a day. It just isn't in me. I usually eat a snack around lunchtime, then eat dinner later on. Sometimes, I'll have popcorn or something late in the evening.

I used too. But I try not to cause It don't help your body. By skipping meals it makes your body think you are straving and it stores what you ate as fat and that makes it harder to lose.

I'm one of the lucky ones, I can eat whatever I want..and never gain a pound.
The most I ever weighed was 145lbs. when I was pregnant with my 1st son.
I'm 5'7" and weigh 112....and I've always been thin.

I have done the gamut on dieting, but I feel the MORE you eat of the proper foods, the more you will lose weight, and maintain it. About two years ago, I become very determined to lose some weight. I ate fruit/nuts/almond milk in the morning. At 2:00 I ate my main meal of meat, steamed vegetables, and a salad. At 6:00 I drank an Atkins shake. I drank water throughout the day. I took supplements, and CoQ10/L Carnitine. I exercised for a mere 7 to 10 minutes on my treadmill each day. And of that 7 minutes I ran fast for perhaps 3 minutes at the most, breaking a sweat. I lost 42 lbs. in a mere 3 months. I felt wonderful. I realize for myself I have to stay away from the starches, the bad carbs.
