| bill | posted 11-Jun-1999 1:21pm I'm really glad you didn't list SC users for answers.... |
| elijahblue | posted 11-Jun-1999 1:26pm I tried it, but it ended up being pointless, since I was still left with all the comments about their comments. |
| hunter | posted 11-Jun-1999 2:02pm I'm filtering one person, because I just couldn't take the repetition of the user's comments any longer. I struggled for a long time with this decision and I continue to be ambivalent about it, mostly because it has started me down a slippery slope of filtering out all the people who fail to interest me 75+% of the time. For me, the interesting part about the comments sections of Survey Central (as opposed to the survey results, in which I am more interested, but which are somewhat separate) is the development and progress of an online community. Blocking out people distorts my model of the community fairly significantly. I've pretty much decided that if I reach the point where I feel I have to filter more people, I will leave, because I will have let people get to me to the point that this is no longer a useful forum for me. Or perhaps I'll just try not reading comments at all. Please note that I'm not suggesting that there's something inherently wrong with filtering people. I think it's a great feature and am very happy to be able to make the choices myself. |
| daver | posted 11-Jun-1999 2:47pm I don't believe in using it. If I ever felt I had to filter some comments, I'd take it as a sign that I should either develop a thicker skin or leave. |
| gilly | posted 11-Jun-1999 2:52pm I filtered a few people for a while when I found myself being consistently annoyed by their comments. I'm not filtering anyone now, though. |
| madamex | posted 11-Jun-1999 4:08pm I'm filtering anonymous. As I said before, if you don't have the eggs to sign your name, nothing you have to say is of interest to me. |
| SueBee | posted 11-Jun-1999 4:09pm Heck no. I can't stand to miss out on anything. Someone would have to REALLY annoy me to make me want to filter them. |
| mandy | posted 11-Jun-1999 8:08pm There are two people I'd like to filter. I just can't bring myself to do it. As irritating and horrid as I find them, they have a right to their voice. I have considered filtering anonymous at times only because of its misuse by cowards who resort to name calling, but I would likely miss out on some wonderful valid anonymous comments if I were to do that. |
| jjg | posted 11-Jun-1999 9:07pm For a while I was filtering Brian, but then I decided that that was simply me being immature. When I decided to filter Brian I had made a comment to the effect of believing that everyone had something to contribute. I then proved my hypocrisy by filtering Brian. |
| Pomeranian | posted 12-Jun-1999 1:08am I did for a while, felt bad about it, and removed the filters. |
| bill | posted 12-Jun-1999 8:35am remember, anonymous is me (as I'm the one who is justified in using it); how dare you filter me! |
| SueBee | posted 12-Jun-1999 3:17pm As of 6/12/99 I am seriously considering filtering out God as I have found both his surveys and comments to be incredibly juvenile and offensive, and a waste of my time. |
| mandy | posted 12-Jun-1999 3:31pm but you won't...you're afraid you might go to hell. ;) |
| SueBee | posted 12-Jun-1999 5:16pm It's a different God...not that I believe in hell anyway, silly! |
| fooyun | posted 12-Jun-1999 11:01pm No, I like to hear what everyone here has to say. |
| God | posted 13-Jun-1999 9:16am Sue Bee - I love you |
| sandals | posted 13-Jun-1999 9:41am gods a bit of a tosser and SueBee and twistermind seem to be up their arses so I generally view their comments with disdain. |
| God | posted 13-Jun-1999 11:02am Sue Bee is pathetic Sandals is just a waste of TIME Matteh is really a bit stupid and I hate his Guts Twisterdick is nothing but a BELL END . Please find another pastime before I hire a hitman to shoot your sorry little ass. |
| God | posted 13-Jun-1999 11:16am Bill I do like. He is probably the only user barring myself that has principles. He is a good man. |
| fooyun | posted 13-Jun-1999 12:06pm Bill do you have a gif for when people are kissing your ass? |
| mandy | posted 13-Jun-1999 2:30pm Death threats...how quaint! Would you like my address? |
| sandals | posted 13-Jun-1999 6:26pm mandy (I got your name right this time) your so tough, how do you do it? |
| mandy | posted 13-Jun-1999 6:58pm I think you meant to type "You're"=YOU ARE not "your"........ |
| Gamera | posted 13-Jun-1999 8:13pm In my opinion personal threats cross a line that other personal insults do not. If one were made against me, I would take it seriously at face value, and thus take immediate legal action. This is interstate/international communication. |
| mandy | posted 13-Jun-1999 9:01pm topper, if I took every death threat from an unknown internet user seriously I'd be reduced to shivering like a frightened animal under my bed. I won't live like that anymore. One thing I've learned from past experience is usually the people who make threats publicly in a forum such as this don't mean it. The ones you have to be afraid of are those who remain quiet about their intentions. They are the ones that usually follow through. If anyone had the resources to hire a hitman to take me out.....then they probably wouldn't make the mad declaration for other people to see....just before doing so. That would be purely idiotic. |
| bill | posted 13-Jun-1999 9:06pm I think it's cool that God is kissing my ass. |
| supplicant | posted 14-Jun-1999 12:20am I hate any kind of filters, it's not hard to just skip over what you don't like, and I wouldn't want to miss out on anything :) |
| Wicksy | posted 14-Jun-1999 5:17am What's going on here. I go away for 5 days and upon my return, I see God and Sandals subsiding into an orgy of abuse, threats and inmaturity. Hey, I thought the war had been suspended, not reinforced !! Twistermine : I respect your strength and confidence of standing up to God. He isn't the be all and end all like he has tried to be for thousands of years. Also, I know God, the creator and you're right. He is a pathetic child. He is 23 but acts like 3. The only gun he has is the water pistol he's kept for his 21st birthday. I introduced God to this site. Maybe it was a mistake |
| God | posted 14-Jun-1999 7:29am TOPPER - Its a little sad you're taking this so seriously. JEN - It's a little sad you're taking this so seriously. TWISTERMINE - It's good to see that you take this light heartedly SANDALS - Get lost I don't need your support in abusing other users WICKSY - Noone gives a damn that you've returned from your 5 day holiday. If I act like 3 years old, it's only because BILGE like you wind me up so much that I lose control of my actions. |
| God | posted 14-Jun-1999 9:04am Bill's my friend - aren't you Bill ? |
| sandals | posted 14-Jun-1999 9:17am Topper, how can you take a threat over the internet seriously? You want to grow some balls mate. As for you Wicksy stop trying to be clever its plain that your a bit thick. I bet you try and learn big words and put them into conversations to try and impress your friend God, but use them at the wrong time. You extant drudgery of devil spawn. mandy - how dare an American who has perversed the English language to some foul drawl, correct me an English scientist, on my mother tongue. Unfortunately your quite right. |
| sandals | posted 14-Jun-1999 9:20am Don't do it Bill! |
| Wicksy | posted 14-Jun-1999 9:36am Sandals : What is wrong with you. I thought God was bad enough, now we have two. What's going on here, has Brian given birth to two freaks or what ? Sandals, get lost, your pathetic dialogue depresses me. This has nothing to do with you. Why have you not said one good thing about anybody on this site, at least God has a fetish for Bill. God, I introduced you to this site and I want you to enjoy it but stop using this site as an excuse to verbally abuse people. It's not clever |
| sandals | posted 14-Jun-1999 9:51am Wicksy - this survey asks 'do you filter any other users', its hardly going to be complementary. Anyway your wrong I think Jen is funny and Bill is obviously the messiah of the internet, Anyway why am I justifying myself to a thicky who has named himself after a character out of Eastenders( English equivalent to Dallas). Wicksy I think you should go back to your Kennel for a few more days. |
| Wicksy | posted 14-Jun-1999 10:12am sandals : How do you know my username was named after " Wicksy ". Is he the only person who has a name " Wicks ". Again, I don't appreciate your criticism. In life, there is constructive and destructive criticism. Obviously, you've resorted to the latter which is a shame. |
| grmbrand | posted 14-Jun-1999 11:59am I don't, which is not to say that I don't want to, but I think it's ultimately better to know where they are at all times. |
| bill | posted 14-Jun-1999 3:37pm If I'm the messiah, then God is my daddy, right? |
| Gamera | posted 14-Jun-1999 6:48pm It's very sad to imagine that death threats are funny or light hearted. It indicates to me a sickness- a lack of ability to image a resolution to conflict or a response to insult other than violence- real or imagined, and a lack of respect for oneself and others. As for growing balls etc.- well I could see how you might see my statement as fear or weakness, but I don't see it that way. Taking a threat and utterly removing its venom, to me feels like empowerment, not fear. If I don't like what you are doing, I can choose to ignore it, or I can choose to exercise my power to make you stop. It's very likely to be my choice to use the most potent tools available to me. Taking action requires eggs. |
| mandy | posted 14-Jun-1999 6:49pm sandals...I am British...not American, *dripping with sarcasm* mate. I live in the United States but I am a British citizen. Your assumptions are ludicrous. |
| sandals | posted 15-Jun-1999 4:29am Traitor |
| bill | posted 15-Jun-1999 12:59pm topper - I think idle death threats are more an indication of lack of ability to express one's self. They are a kind of last resort, a failure of words. |
| magbast | posted 15-Jun-1999 5:59pm jen, you really shook survey central up with this one lol |
| Wicksy | posted 16-Jun-1999 7:07am JEN : I didn't appreciate the fact that you have included me in your comments. I am the one trying to stop Sandals and God verbally abusing people. Some people can just let it go but I don't want to. Maybe I should. Anyway Jen, you're the one who ignited the arguement on the " How you ever wanted to murder someone " |
| magbast | posted 16-Jun-1999 4:31pm isn't "wicksy" british slang for "fudge stick"...i can't remember... |
| Rod | posted 16-Jun-1999 5:29pm Yeah, I've had to filter a couple of people who write really lame surveys. |
| Wicksy | posted 17-Jun-1999 4:38am magbast : I saw your picture on that survey. God, you're a fat chicken !!!!!! |
| Wicksy | posted 17-Jun-1999 4:38am Magbast : You reap what you sow |
| eris | posted 17-Jun-1999 1:16pm Wicksy: I didn't notice your picture up there for us to drool over, or spit on (same difference). |
| Wicksy | posted 17-Jun-1999 1:26pm eris : I haven't got the equipment needed to put a photo on S.C. Anyway, why are you sticking up for magbast. Look at what he wrote about me. Totally unprovoked as well !!!! |
| mandy | posted 18-Jun-1999 12:17am Wicksy/God/sandals???????..Whatever!....Obviously somewhere along the line you had a falling out with Magbast of some sort, and he has residual feelings about the matter that spill over into his comments occasionally. I didn't see eris' remark as sticking up for Magbast. He makes a good point. I will however take Magbast's side because you and your English alter egos have pushed all my buttons of late. I can see why he doesn't like you very much. |
| magbast | posted 18-Jun-1999 12:53am wow, thanks for the support...however, my "name calling" can not be substantiated...i just have a general dislike for wicksy...and i don't hide that fact...nor do i use the anonymous feature...if i have something rude to say...i usually just say it...i guess i could have used a more direct approach... wicksy...i think you are a fudge stick! hmmm...that wasn't as funny...lol |
| Wicksy | posted 18-Jun-1999 12:42pm Twistermine : I cannot believe you are putting me in the same category as God and Sandals. Or do you think they are me. Look at the remarks God and Sandals have made over the weeks. They have been terribly abusive and I have been the one that has criticised them. Now I see you are including me in your " English altor egos " point. Just because the three of us are British doen't mean we are all the same. I was the one that sticked up for you regarding the death threat and what do I get for it. Also, what do you mean when you say " I can see what Magbast dislikes about me ". What exactly have I done to make him dislike me ? If someone called you a fudgestick, what would you do ? Does everyone agree with magbast or do I have some supporters |
| bill | posted 18-Jun-1999 12:48pm How about no one takes any side in this. How about we talk about something else now. My point of view is that magbast's original comment (though mean) was at least somewhat clever in the way it was worded. Everything after that has been boring. I hereby ban all boring comments! |
| eris | posted 18-Jun-1999 12:55pm Wicksy: I was reacting to your comment, not to magbast's. If I commented on all the ad hominem attacks in this survey, it would be twice as long as it already is. I think it's quite possible that this has become much worse than it might have because there is the possibility of multiple identities (note that I don't believe there are such in this case). Or perhaps we are all just bored, or it's that time of the month. I see that even as I was writing this, Bill has said what I meant. |
| magbast | posted 20-Jun-1999 5:33pm i see wicksy's grammar falls apart when he's flustered...lol |
| Wicksy | posted 21-Jun-1999 5:51am magbast : You are still a fat chicken to me. In fact, you're a fat UGLY chicken as well !!! |
| magbast | posted 21-Jun-1999 4:21pm wicksy, the implication that i remind you of your mother, is quite revolting... |
| Wicksy | posted 22-Jun-1999 4:28am magbast : What about your mum ! Every woman has a right to be ugly, but I'm afraid your mum has just abused the priviledge |
| magbast | posted 22-Jun-1999 12:09pm wicksy, just because your mom caught you milking the rat...it gives you no right to come in here and take out your anger on me...i suggest locking the door next time...but i can understand that you were a lil upset that she watched you for 10 minutes before she busted you.... |
| Wicksy | posted 23-Jun-1999 8:43am magbast: you loser |
| magbast | posted 23-Jun-1999 12:48pm so i guess that would make you my british counterpart...because you are an equal, if not, greater loser than me...and with that...i close this... |
| drdt | posted 28-Jun-1999 6:49pm As of 6/28/99 at 6:49pm I filter anonymous and one other who will remain nameless. An hour ago I only filtered anonymous. |
| drdt | posted 28-Jun-1999 6:53pm And now I might filter a few more people. |
| pandora | posted 2-Jul-1999 1:12am I'm too curious to filter. |
| magbast | posted 11-Jul-1999 1:34pm i feel horrible about it, but i have finally had to use the filter option...i feel it is necessary for me to be able to move forward as user and stop being non-productive...and i am to weak to ignore remarks...and i tend to jump right in and say something vulgar in return...so hopefully i can end this affliction i have... |
| Wicksy | posted 11-Jul-1999 1:48pm magbast : This is Wicksy. I have sent this under anonymous in case you had filtered me out !! I agree with you, you should filter God and Sandals, but not me. I wouldn't like to compared to them two. There are friends outside SC but inside, they're pricks and the less I have to do with them, the better !!! |

| SueBee | posted 23-Jul-1999 1:57pm I am now. And it's kind of nice to not need my hip boots to wade through the crap. |
| supplicant | posted 28-Jul-1999 12:14pm I take back my previous comment of "it's not hard to just skip over what you don't like"... it can actually be very very hard. But I'm still determined to try. |
| they | posted 28-Jul-1999 12:43pm I had to change my vote... I was not filtering any out.. but I recently started to... and it's not who you would think. |

| mandy | posted 12-Aug-1999 1:46pm I added Jasmine yesterday...so three. |
| bill | posted 12-Aug-1999 4:23pm I'm filtering multiple usernames that are all the same person. Does that count as "Yes. Just one."? |
| mandy | posted 19-Aug-1999 4:37pm I also now filter sandals and Kristal_Rose. so 5...Christ...soon I won't see any comments. I am struggling with this too because I am seeing one sided conversations and it seem so weird. |
| Wicksy | posted 20-Aug-1999 5:21am Twister: Surely one sided conversations is better than the drivel Sandals and co come up with!! |
| mandy | posted 20-Aug-1999 2:44pm Wicksy...but I'm so curious!!!!!!! ARG! |
| Mariah | posted 1-Nov-1999 1:03am No. I'm still new and no one has gotten on my nerves that badly yet. Yet. |

| Frostbrand | posted 13-Dec-1999 6:01pm I used to have a whole bunch o' you butt-holes filtered, but I just figured that that would be letting you win. Then, lo and behold, I now get along with most of the people I had filtered! Hell, some of my ex-filters actually count as friends! :) |
| Oscar | posted 13-Dec-1999 6:13pm Why do you filter magbast? |
| mandy | posted 13-Dec-1999 6:29pm Because. |
| Oscar | posted 14-Dec-1999 1:58pm good reason |
| mandy | posted 14-Dec-1999 4:46pm Oscar....I actually have a very good reason but not one I care to share with you. I do not feel like dredging up any more of that unpleasantness just to fulfill your curiosity because...well...I don't like you. :) |
| Oscar | posted 14-Dec-1999 4:50pm That's a good reason as well. |
| Oscar | posted 14-Dec-1999 4:52pm May I be curious enough to ask why you don't like me? |
| mandy | posted 14-Dec-1999 5:04pm actually a better question might be why do you care what I think of you, considering your basic opinion of me? Does the word "sterilized" mean anything to you? |
| Oscar | posted 14-Dec-1999 5:36pm I do care what you think, but I'm not sure why. Yes, sterilized means something to me, but I guess you never read my apology for that in the other survey. I was waaaayyyyy out of line, and I apologize...to all of you, not just Twister. |
| mandy | posted 14-Dec-1999 5:38pm apology accepted. |
