A little bit, in some ways. Sometimes it doesn't though. Sometimes their choice in music is totally opposite of their personality. I once worked with a quiet, soft spoken, mellow woman who shocked everyone by saying she listened to hardcore metal. Who'da thunk?

If it does that would make me a schizophrenic.

Yes, just like all other actions, likes, or dislikes reflect on the user.

No... it just reflects a personal preference. Just like people that like to eat carrots don't necessarily end up with better vision than others - they just like carrots... and sometimes coincidentally have perfect vision.

More accurately, this survey is like Astrology. Sure there are characteristics that one can attribute to one's self, but... there's a ton of folks that could claim the same thing and like a totally different genre of music.

Yes it does! There is one person who plays such crappy music on the jukebox, nobody likes it. This is at our local bowling center, and she plays it all the time, and to me it is the stupidest music I ever heard in my life. And everybody at the bowling center complains.

Yes, I'd say probably does. I'm a naturally rebellious sort, quiet but totally nonconformist and anticonservatism. When I was younger and into rock music I gravitated towards the Stones and the Dead, especially (and later) the Dead. Very nonconformist bands these. I have always liked various kinds of World music, ever since I was a kid, and now buy ONLY several different kinds of ethnic music that few people in the US have ever heard of. (Except most people HAVE heard of Cajun, of course, due to it being a form of American ethnic music.) Does the fact that I now buy only various different forms of World music perhaps suggest past lives (I'd like to think so myself * smile * ) I mean, even if there was a suggestion of an ancestor or two being from one of these ethnic groups -- and some are definitely not likely, as in the case of my affinity for ancient Hawaiian/Polynesian song-chants and Tex-Mex -- it is not that I grew up with them or anything like that. I sought out different kinds of hard-to-find World folk music in record stores on my own. Does this ALSO suggest rugged individualism, since most people stay with the music they grew up with and that their peers and/or parents listened to? My own parents mainly liked the slow pop music of ancient crooners like Bing Crosby. I also used to be heavily into dance music for some years and still like to hear it, mainly "house"-type stuff. This reflects a gay lifestyle, or at least when I was into it, it did in a BIG way.

It probably reflects something about their personality.

people who listen to a good variety of music are generally more open minded and intelligent than those who stick to one or two forms of music, thats my experience with that subject.

Maybe, maybe not. More likely for those who only listen to one kind of music.

Do I get this right? A person will deliberately choose a type of music to listen to because they may think that it will relfect their personality, not choose what they like?

I must admit, I do tend to judge people based on their music tastes.

Absolutely. It tells you a lot about his/her personality--just like the clothes they wear and the cars they drive.

Not really, because clothes and car could reflect income more than personality. Different types of music don't cost any different.

I agree, better vision isn't a personality trait. It's a coincidence that folks have better than average vision when they like carrots. My point was to point out that these are coincidences that occur. Perhaps I should've said not all white men are bad dancers; or not all black men are bad at mathematics.

Most people have a few different genres they are attracted to. This reflects different facets of their personality looking for a place to be.
