| darkshadowsseeker | posted 26-Dec-2005 4:39pm I don't make excuses. If I don't want to exercise, I don't, that's it. If other people don't like that, I figure it's their problem. I simply say, "I don't want to exercise" and leave it at that, no elabortions, no excuses. They can take that however they want. |

| cabinfever | posted 28-Dec-2005 1:26am In descending order: I hate exercising. I'm too tired. My (insert body part) hurts. I don't feel like getting all sweaty. It's too cold/hot to workout. I don't have anyone to workout with. I don't have the time. I'm too stressed and I need to relax. I might be doing "something". AND, other: I'm too fat and lazy.... or more to the point, I'm depressed about being fat and feel powerless to do anything about it. I hate to exercise because it's almost always painful for me, with an old back injury. Where I live, there is no such thing as 'temperate climate'. It's always very cold or hot. I also hate to sweat for no reason. Drives me insane. I am one of those people who can't see the forest for the trees... I don't want to exercise for weeks on end to lose a measly ten pounds. Excuses, I know. I am currently doing some light exercising, trying to get myself in a little better shape, and changing my eating habits, but it's hard for a mood-eater.

| FauxLo | (reply to cabinfever) posted 28-Dec-2005 1:44am Would you like to know my "cheat"? Cabbage soup. I eat a big pot or two of it weekly. It not only "cleans you out", but the more of it you eat, the more weight you will lose. You burn more calories in the act of digesting the cabbage than there are calories that are in the cabbage itself. I love it. I think if you tell yourself, right now, that you love it too, it's something you can easily incorporate into your diet. (Mental conditioning is key to making weight-loss successful. Start now!) Let me know if you want my recipe. Also, I change it up from time-to-time by putting it in the blender to give it a different texture - it's great for a thermos. |
| cabinfever | (reply to FauxLo) posted 28-Dec-2005 2:35am WELL?? Post your miracle recipe, Solo, don't leave me hanging! I've heard of cabbage soup before. I tried to grow cabbage in my garden this summer, but the catepillars got 'em. My hubby and I like to put it in bierocks. |

I used to do extremely demanding physical labor, moving appliances. But then one day, moving a small, light box with a garage door in it, my back just popped; it was my muscles tearing. Basically the equivalent to someone throwing out their back while reaching for the toothbrush. Messed my back up something fierce. |

Cabbage Soup Recipe (I tend to double up these ingredients and make a big batch) 6 large green onions 2 green peppers 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole - I prefer two whole cans b/c I'm a greedy guts) 3 carrots (or some baby carrots will work too) 1 container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms (although I often skip the mushrooms) 1 bunch celery 1/2 head cabbage 1 package Lipton soup mix 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional, but I've never done it) Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, etc. |
| FauxLo | (reply to LindaH) posted 28-Dec-2005 6:28am > I've heard the same thing about celery
You're probably right, but the only way I can eat raw celery is with peanut butter. Yeah... it's not cute. Especially when I have to dig for it, as well as lick the back of my hand for getting PB on it. I love it that much. |
| FauxLo | (reply to cabinfever) posted 28-Dec-2005 6:34am No way! I don't even know what you're talking about there.
You also have to take into consideration that I'm half Samoan. My musculature is a bit more dense than that of most caucasians. Ugh... I can only imagine what it sounds like to hear your muscles tear. |

| southernyankee | posted 28-Dec-2005 2:54pm I DO excersize. I walk my stupid dog at least 3 times a day. I am pretty sure that counts.
Outside of that, once in a while I go run the threadmill just to feel better. Its not even for health purposes. Generally speaking I hate excercising. I dont even see the point. If you excesize 15 minutes a day for the rest of your life, you get to live maybe 2 years longer, but then you end up spending 2 years of your life exercising when you could be doing something anyway. |
| FauxLo | (reply to LindaH) posted 28-Dec-2005 4:20pm ...then that just means no celery for Solo. Raw celery? Blahhh. |

| FauxLo | (reply to LindaH) posted 28-Dec-2005 4:59pm I grew up hating cabbage. It's something that I think I had to convince myself to like. It was definitely an acquired taste. |
| cloudhugger | (reply to FauxLo) posted 28-Dec-2005 6:57pm Now why would you ruin a perfectly good recipe by putting a little bag of chemicals in it (lipton soup) it's msg, and a fun assortment of toxic poisoning with too much salt. |
| Iseult | posted 28-Dec-2005 8:52pm I don't have one, I exercize. |
| Galomorro | posted 28-Dec-2005 9:04pm I exercise my OWN way from necessity or just because my hobbies take me outdoors -- walking outdoors, walking up/down hills, walking up/down stairs to my third-floor walkup, carrying a heavy backpack (weight-bearing exercise). But I would never buy any exercise equipment nor go to a gym. I don't like THAT kind of exercising -- in a room full of people or just doing something over and over at home -- because it's just too boring. I would not have the patience and I like being outdoors too much. Other reasons might be too tired, too much to do, no time -- but on the weekends especiallly I make time to take long hikes and do necessary exercise in the way of walking to groceries or doing laundry, which is very GOOD exercise because of where the stores/laundry are located. I don't drive and walk to work 25 minutes each way every day where I'm working now also -- rather than have to wait for a bus. |

| cabinfever | (reply to FauxLo) posted 29-Dec-2005 2:26am Hey, WHICH soup mix? Fresh or canned mushrooms? A ten-ounce 'container' could be either. This recipe sounds like a huge, smelly fart waiting to happen. Does sound good, though. |
| cabinfever | (reply to FauxLo) posted 29-Dec-2005 2:31am You don't know? Cabbage is notorious for either giving someone gas or causing their urine to reek. My muscles tearing actually sounded and felt like a pop, like one of my vertebra moved, but it was in the wrong location, and I immediately felt this odd sensation like warm water running down my back in that area (instant inflammation setting in). I knew something went crapty back there, dammit. |
| cabinfever | (reply to justjulie) posted 29-Dec-2005 2:34am What is your fave? My hubby's grandparents give us a little thing of Godiva for Christmas every year, and this year's batch had quite a few squares of their dark chocolate. They must have changed their recipe, because this time it was really good. My fave is Hershey's Special Dark. The pretty wrapper was what got me to try it as a kid, and I've loved it ever since. I recently tried Cadbury, and it was decent, but for me Hershey's is better. Any suggestions? |

| cabinfever | (reply to FauxLo) posted 29-Dec-2005 3:00am > Genetics. A mess. Me.
A genetic mess? At least you know all of your ancestry, and it's only two "breeds" of people. I am a true American mutt. My great-great-great-great grandfather on my mom's side was a Scottish fur trader who was living in what is know Georgia and he stole a Cherokee slave girl from a tribe, and she had a dozen kids with him. My dad is Dutch and Irish, with a little more Native American thrown in. My mother's mom was a barfly and got pregnant with some guy somewhere, supposedly a Cherokee man from a reservation somewhere. Oh, and mental illness runs in the family. I'm a freakin' cabbage soup genetically. |

I hate fruit and nuts with almond milk in the morning....ate my main meal at 1:30 to 2:00PM, meat, steamed veggies, and salad....at around 6:00 I drank an Atkins shake. I felt great, had no cravings. BUT, then I left my diet at holiday time, and through stress, eating wheat and corn products, I gained some of the weight back.
