| darkshadowsseeker | posted 20-Dec-2005 11:05pm It depends on how often they do it. If they do it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over in a single conversation, that really, really, really, really, really, really pisses me off! |
| Enigma | posted 20-Dec-2005 11:24pm Sometimes it does. My brother does it quite a bit when he's pitching idea's out, it's a little annoying but it's his way. Fred Elliot, the butcher on Coronation Street, repeats himself all the time, it's part of his character. |
| paulyw | posted 20-Dec-2005 11:55pm It depends on the situation |
| patarnone | posted 21-Dec-2005 12:12am Well, I hadn't given it any thought until you brought it up. And now that I'm thinking about it, I guess it all depends.
Depends mostly what is repeated and how often. Is this something you can expect to here for the rest of your life, like some personal story? Or is this maybe someone being stoned and running off at the mouth saying the same thing over and over again? So, maybe sometimes, it depends... when I start to give it some thought, that is. Would you repeat the question, please? |
| FauxLo | (reply to patarnone) posted 21-Dec-2005 12:26am Does it bother you when people repeat themselves? |
| Enheduanna | posted 21-Dec-2005 2:28am Sometimes; I guess it depends on what they're repeating and why. I sometimes get sick of hearing people voice the same opinions or arguments over and over in the same words. I'm talking about over the course of days, months, or years, not one sitting. I get tired of doing it myself, sometimes, too. I realize it happens. I just get sick of explaining things, or hearing other people explain things. |
| FauxLo | (reply to Enheduanna) posted 21-Dec-2005 2:48am I agree. There are times when I don't even want to hear my own voice repeating itself. Mostly because it frustrates me that I've had to explain something so many times.
Do you think it'd be considered rude if I just started recording myself to playback for future explanations? |
| jettles | posted 21-Dec-2005 5:26am do you mean when asking you to do a task or just in general with stories and stuff.

| Galomorro | posted 21-Dec-2005 9:09am Sometimes it's mildly annoying. Sometimes it's mildly annoying. Usually I'm glad I can understand anyone's speech at all, what with the heavy accents at work, etc. of people whose first language wasn't English. There's one guy at work who repeats himself a lot; it's kinda like a nervous habit. |

I had a professor in college like that. I'd get what he was saying in the first 10 minutes but he'd spend all of class time explaining it really slow, and repeating himself. | caviartaste | posted 27-Dec-2005 7:46pm it bothers me when they say the same thing over and over, and act like they've changed what they're saying to make you understand it better, but really they haven't - they just changed their tone.
(It did make some really funny episodes of Will and Grace when Karen did it though...) |
| LindaH | posted 27-Dec-2005 10:57pm I think people do that for themselves more than for the listener. They like hearing themselves talk about certain topics, and they like trying to come up with different ways to say it, whether it's a change in words or emphasis. You're just the unfortunate recipient. |
