Three SMALL Wishes

This is a different (I hope) take on the average Three Wishes survey. For the sake of this hypothetical, you find the proverbial magic lamp and genie et al, but there is an unexpected catch; you can only wish for things that are small and trivial. Nothing Earth-shattering, no immortality or superstardom or anything like that. Just small stuff. Example: Your favorite mix tape was stolen a few years ago. You can wish to have it back.

One of the more obscure symbols for Scorpio is the eternal "snake eating its own tail" symbolizing the numeral zero. I learned this from a Linda Goodman book. Another interesting Scorpio fact is that it's a double sign... the lower is, of course, the Scorpion, but the higher form of Scorpio is represented by the Eagle. Again, this is all via the late Linda Goodman.

Scorpio is my Rising Sign. My Sun is Taurus with Moon in Cancer. My three major planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars) are all in Aries.

I became a monk of sorts back in `88, now all the albums I tossed then (experimental punk) are $30-80 if you can even find them. Apparently I had collectors taste and didn't know it. There are things like my drug diary I'd like from back then. I was an aspiring artist and gave away all my paintings and sculptures at an art festiaval too. I search the internet once in awhile to see if they went into circulation.

Find yourself a NAD, Onkyo, or Yamaha stereo receiver at a thrift store that is pre-digitally controlled. Those things were made to last forever and you can find a $700 unit for $30. The tape deck may need surviced. You can use a portable CD with an extra 'line-out' with it, and get a 1/8 phone to dual RCA adapter at Radio Shack, likewise with any mp3, just go from the headphone jack (set low) to your aux input on the amp. Tape decks may need serviced (about $70) (again, you want mechanical controls, not buttons). If you can spin a turntable easily, but it has some heavy momentum to it, and the needle is there, not bent, then you're probably good to go. (Oh wait, you're familiar with records already)

I have a cheap sound-design combo which I got for the BSR turntable to play my 78's, and do 33's/45's on an A&R in walnut which I've upholstered in zebra velour (deck and platter). The 12" platter comes off the 7" platter to reveal the belt which you change manually (or take off I suppose if you want to scratch or play backwards). It has no auto spindle, nor even a cue, but could play on the back of a jeep since the platter and arm are on the same floating suspension.

One cool thing about LA is that it's still full of record stores. My favorite though has a grand repoening tomorrow, bought out, and now it looks like my chances of finding classics there will be replaced with Hip Hop.

I'm a musician (experimental hindu jazz blues, violin-bass harmonica & synth through synth, all analogue) and look forward to releasing in vinyl some day.

At least I didn't toss the suitcase with all my childrens momentos. They're both in college, and it's about time to ask them if they want any.
