Have you ever successfully eliminated something from your diet that you thought to be harmful?

For example, you choose not to have candy or soft drinks specifically because of their sugar content, not necessarily to avoid excess calories.

Mark "permanently" if you still don't consume the item, "temporarily" if you cut it out for a length of time but no longer avoid it. If you are allergic to something, please mark it and comment.

5I've never done this because I see no problem with my diet.
6I've never done this because it's too difficult.
0I've never done this for other reasons (see comment).
20I control my intake of one or more of these (or something else), but don't avoid it/them entirely.

i've recently stopped my consumption of alcohol...it's been about 2 months...wasn't a heavy drinker...just casual...but i quit because of high blood pressure...

I used to have low blood pressure so I had to take sodium, but now I seem to have high blood pressure, so caffeine and salt are no-no's. Also seafood because of one bad allergic reaction.

Allergic to alcohol, uncooked pineapple, fish and a host of other things I don't eat (mold/mildew, dust, cats etc).

I've cut out caffeine for months at a time, and felt better (slept better) but got back into the habit again. I was a vegetarian for 3 years, but have been eating some meat lately. I feel the difference and will stop it again. I have a hard time breaking old habits.

I haven't eliminated any of these, but I am currently trying to cut down on just about all of them.

I control most everything, other than Haagen-Daz Dulce de Leche ice cream. I just can't help it, pints and pints of the stuff magically disappear in my presence.

I won't eat red meat..and I won't eat pork. I had to start eating chicken every once in a while because my diet was getting really poor.

Cholesterol, temporarily. It made a small difference to my blood levels. I switched doctors (going to a different health plan), and the new one, who I feel is more competent than the old, said this was probably not necessary.

I've found that it didn't take long for my tastes to change so that I didn't want too eat too much xxxxxx. I used to drink whole milk, but anything more that 2% now tastes quite rich and creamy.

I'll never give up cheese, but I started drinking rice milk on cereal and now I don't even like the taste of regular (cows') milk anymore. I only use it in cooking.

I actually just ate about 12 Kraft Singles and I'm disgusted with myself. I don't know what got into me. I think I might puke though.

Kraft Singles? If they're anything like the ones we have the very thought makes me sick. Those pieces of plastic which aren't real cheese at all, but actually overly processed pieces of *bleurg*? :)

Yep. It's not the best feeling to have eaten 12. Luckily that was yesterday. I think I hear them calling my name again....

supplicant - actually they're a processed cheese food product, at least I think that's what it says on the label.

Jody: I was taking a stab at them, because I think they're utterly foul inventions of the Devil. Much like the way most people I know call McDonalds 'plastic' and say that it's not 'food' - we still eat it all the same.

sup.....The Devil asked me to relate to you that he does not have time to invent food products. He is in no way associated with Kraft Foods and will not be held accountable for any damage done to humans who choose to consume said cheese food.

Only permanent thing is meat. I occasionaly give up some of the above as an exercise in willpower. Then, after I have just about forgotten to crave it, I'll try it again and it tastes great!

I have not eliminated everything, but I think I have cut down on many of these things over the past few years.
