| SueBee | posted 27-May-1999 1:41am I love to drive fast and I'm usually in a hurry anyway. The only place I make sure to always go the speed limit is school zones because that's one place where it makes sense to go slow. I'd never forgive myself if I ran over a kid. |
| smart | posted 27-May-1999 4:13am Technically, I speed, but usually only in tactical amounts (i.e. 5-7 mph over the limit, so as not to be worth chasing down) |
| bill | posted 27-May-1999 6:52am speed feels too good, I use it to cheer myself up ...zoom zoom |
| daver | posted 27-May-1999 7:28am I pay more attention to my tachometer than my speedometer. My speeding (or lack thereof) depends on if the local speed limits were set for revenue or safety. |
| pandora | posted 27-May-1999 1:42pm I usually go 5 over, but almost never more than that, except on the highway. Then it's 10-20 over. |
| ferretlover | posted 27-May-1999 2:42pm cruise control helps |
| mandy | posted 27-May-1999 3:02pm I speed(very fast and often) unless I have passengers. |
| anonymous | posted 27-May-1999 3:24pm I don't speed. It recently came to my attention just how much it costs to get caught speeding (ticket, insurance, etc.). I've decided it's not worth the risk. It bothers me how much it annoys people when I don't drive faster than the speed limit. If they would be willing to pay the ticket and the insurance increase, I would consider breaking the law for them... |
| Lizabeth | posted 27-May-1999 5:54pm I go 1-10 miles over the speed limit depending on what kind of road I'm on (highway, etc.) But NEVER in a school zone. |
| madamex | posted 27-May-1999 8:41pm I feel the neeeeeeeed, the need for speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed! |
| Eeah | posted 27-May-1999 9:51pm I speed.. I can't stand going the speed limit... I don't know what it is.... If it's 60 i'm going at least 65-70.. if it's 70.. 75-80... Unless i have some sort of reason that keeps me from speeding.. Like my total fear of the police.. oh well.. |
| SueBee | posted 28-May-1999 12:02am Anonymous - I know what you mean. I get annoyed when I'm going about 5 mph over the speed limit (worried about getting a ticket in certain areas) and people are still right on my back bumper, as if they're irritated that I'm in their way. If I'm already speeding I think they should back off. I stuck really close to the speed limit for awhile, but it's been several years since I've had a ticket, so I'm getting bolder again. |
| SueBee | posted 28-May-1999 12:05am Bill, madamex, and any other speed freaks...do any of you have motorcycles? That's the greatest feeling! The acceleration is exhilarating. |
| daver | posted 28-May-1999 8:53am **SueBee: I remember discovering with delight that my bike is a completely different animal when the engine is spun beyond 7K. Whee! |
| SueBee | posted 28-May-1999 2:07pm Go daver!! Vroooooooom! |
| jzp | posted 29-May-1999 7:27am my speedometer was periodically broken in my old heap. i wanted to be pulled over to be asked "did you know how fast you were going?" and honestly say no, asking to be told. i think the shock value would have been worht the tickets. |
| supplicant | posted 29-May-1999 12:29pm And worth having your car declared unroadworthy and not being able to drive it until it was fixed? :) |
| phi | posted 30-May-1999 2:36pm I'm much more likely to speed on highways than in residential neighborhoods. |
| jonathan | posted 1-Jun-1999 8:35am When I was commuting 45 min. each way to work on the highway I'd speed all of the time, even when not commuting. Now that I walk to work or take municipal transportation I'm much more mellow about driving and speeding. I just bought a motorcycle tho, so I might be revisiting this survey later... |
| madamex | posted 1-Jun-1999 8:40pm SueBee: I had one, and loved it, but don't at the moment. Not only is the acceleration great, but the throbbing of the engine between my legs is wonderful foreplay. |
| mandy | posted 1-Jun-1999 9:07pm I hate motorcycles...they are pretty to look at...but I abhor the thought of riding one. |
| dpolicar | posted 1-Jun-1999 10:17pm Other: I speed occasionally (mostly just when it seems safe to do so). |
| bill | posted 2-Jun-1999 5:53pm Jen and I are going to liquidate all of our assets, buy a couple Harleys and tour Canada for a few years on our hogs. We'll wear black leather with fringe. |
| bluebird1974 | posted 13-Jun-1999 9:43pm I have built in brain radar *laugh* I rarely get caught even if I speed right by the cop |
| drdt | posted 29-Jun-1999 5:41pm I got away with telling a cop I didn't know - my dashboard light was out so I couldn't read the speedometer. I demonstrated it to him and *he let me go without even a warning*. There was no hope of repair. |
| mandy | posted 1-Jul-1999 5:36pm I will never again exceed posted speed limits and may even drive well below them from this day forward. |
| supplicant | posted 1-Jul-1999 7:01pm Driving well below them can potentially be as dangerous as driving well above them. |
| mandy | posted 1-Jul-1999 7:19pm maybe I'll just take the bus then. |
| drdt | posted 7-Jul-1999 7:15pm TwM: unfortunately, you will most likely get over it within a year. You don't want to take the bus, you have no say in how the bus driver drives (and drivers of large vehicles are typically careles). |
| mandy | posted 8-Jul-1999 4:55pm I'm over it now actually. It's been a week. I miss my car. I want to drive again :) |
| Renee | posted 14-Aug-1999 4:36am I think i regularly drive 5 miles over the speed limit...7-10 on the freeway |
| yorricks | posted 3-Oct-1999 11:54am I very carefully set my cruise at 5 miles over the speed limit, living under the rumor that the patrolling officers won't pick you up at that speed. |
| mandy | posted 3-Oct-1999 4:28pm I'm speeding again...my car makes me...She loves to go fast. |
| SueBee | posted 3-Oct-1999 6:27pm yorricks - I trust that theory. I can't imagine they'd bother when there are others going so much faster. |
| mandy | posted 3-Oct-1999 7:47pm uh....like me.....:( |
| Mariah | posted 1-Nov-1999 2:15am I almost always drive above the speed limit. It never feels like it my mother's car, though. I'll look down and be like GOOD GOD!!! |
| mandy | posted 1-Nov-1999 8:24pm 85 seems to be my car's favorite speed. I start out obeying the speed limit...only to look down moments later and see she's cranked herself up to 85...again! :) |
| Zolars | posted 2-Nov-1999 1:00pm I am a careful speeder. I don't weave between cars and I don't tailgate. I am careful to drive under full control. |
| Oscar | posted 10-Dec-1999 3:18pm I have a theory. I believe that the little white sign with black numbers is a suggestion. It really means that they would prefer you go that fast, but about 15mph higher is acceptable, and even good. |
| natsim | posted 12-Jan-2000 10:05am Any sign with a white border is optional. |
| lonxedosol | posted 27-Jan-2000 11:44am Gotta be careful, but you can't let other drivers drive all over you... |
| phi | posted 28-Feb-2000 4:45pm Around here the numbers really do seem like a suggestion. I know I've blown past cops at 15 miles over and not had any problems -- because there's always someone weaving through the right two lanes at 25 miles over, or otherwise behaving in an unsafe manner, to get the ticket instead. |
