| Enigma | posted 10-Oct-2005 12:42am Don't forget the warm buns. |
| jduPres | posted 10-Oct-2005 2:19am Everything but the beets and the turkey. I only mention the turkey because I seldom, if ever, eat meat or poultry. My digestive tract doesn't handle them very well, but everything else sounds delicious. |
| patarnone | posted 10-Oct-2005 4:44am Am I invited? Please? |

| gambler | posted 10-Oct-2005 9:25am Yes, it sounds delicious just as it is................. as far as I am concerned it only needed this option, makes me hungry just looking at it |

| RainingFeathers | posted 10-Oct-2005 10:48am Nope. I only like the broccoli with cheese sauce and the apple pie. Everything else sounds gross. (I'm a really picky eater). |
| paulyw | posted 10-Oct-2005 10:51am Every thing sounds delicious except for the broccoli, and Cauliflower, the beets, pickles tomatoes, and cucumbers. I will most likely eat everything else though. |
| icurok | posted 10-Oct-2005 11:19am I have a letter from my doctor that forbids me from expressing an opinion on foreign festivals. |
| mve17 | posted 10-Oct-2005 12:18pm lumpy gravy |
| Enheduanna | posted 10-Oct-2005 12:20pm You forgot the green bean casserole! And I'd use yams instead of spaghetti squash, and I'd leave off the last three things. And I'd include cranberry sauce. |
| cloudhugger | posted 10-Oct-2005 1:23pm |
| cloudhugger | posted 10-Oct-2005 1:27pm Love spahetti squash, but I am not sure about it being sweet, never tried it like that, but I would be honored to try yours. Gotta pass on the cauliflower.
So how do you get jarred beets? Drop them a couple of times, or pound them against the counter??? And I will save the optional cheese sauce for my slice of apple pie. |
| Scott | posted 10-Oct-2005 4:18pm Is there room for one more at the table? I'll bring the deviled eggs. Mmmm, Deviled Eggs. |
| Iseult | posted 10-Oct-2005 6:05pm You're trying to make me fat, aren't you?
Yes, I'll accept it. |
| autumnlight | posted 10-Oct-2005 7:10pm Sounds delicious. Just leave out the turkey and gravy and I'm fine! |
| bcollins | posted 11-Oct-2005 1:07am Except for the vegetables, it sounds great to me. I live across the border in Maine. What time do you want me to show up? |
| cerealkiller | posted 13-Oct-2005 7:36pm Yes except for the squash. Veggies shouldn' be sweet. |
| CGTREE | posted 15-Oct-2005 7:32pm Everything except the spaghetti Squash with cinnamon and brown sugar......and the pumpkin pie.....eww....pumpkin pie.....actually come to think of it....I don't really like pie that much at all.....some of them tastes good and all but I wouldn't go buy a pie...or order some in a restaurant.....I prefer ice cream.....or ice cream cake....!!! |
| CGTREE | (reply to Amanda) posted 15-Oct-2005 7:34pm You don't like turkey?????? Oh my god!!! Well I guess thats allowed....more for me!!! |
| Amanda | (reply to CGTREE) posted 15-Oct-2005 9:05pm Nope. I don't eat any birds. It's not that I don't like the taste. It's because when I was little, we had chickens and a turkey. They became like pets. So, now it's a mind thing with me. If I eat chicken or turkey, I feel like I'm eating my pet. |
| Amanda | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 15-Oct-2005 9:07pm Cheese sauce on apple pie??? Are you pregnant? |
| CGTREE | (reply to Amanda) posted 15-Oct-2005 11:42pm Ohhhhh ok....I totally understand....Last year or so I wanted to try duck meat...so my mother and I bought a duck from the grocery store and I put it in the oven......well my mother is a bit of a bird watcher...and she really likes watching ducks.....so she couldn't even carve the duck when it was ready....she started to cry as she was cutting it and she couldn't eat any of it......I felt bad for that......so I ate the duck....I just wanted to try something new.. I've never bought another one since though....and besides it tastes exactly like roast beef. |
| teatree | posted 16-Oct-2005 3:25am It sounds delicious except for the beets (I hate beets) and the broccoli/cauliflower dish. I eat a lot of vegetables, but those are two I can't abide. |
| Zang | posted 16-Oct-2005 10:11pm Sounds pretty close to what I had. |

| Amanda | (reply to cloudhugger) posted 20-Oct-2005 9:33pm I don't like apple pie to begin with. But with cheese sauce? I think I'll take your word on that one! |
| they | posted 23-Oct-2005 12:18am Except for the spaghetti squash? eww.. sounds gross... and beets... |
| Jabbc7 | posted 25-Oct-2005 4:22pm I don't know exactly what spaghetti squash is. |
| kitti723 | posted 28-Oct-2005 9:50am I don't celebrate the English taking the Indians land and slaughtering their people and raping the land. I don't eat meat and especially not Turkey. My deceased SO overdosed w. a basting syringe. That's not a joke. I found him dead on the kitchen floor. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! |
| cabinfever | posted 2-Nov-2005 8:01pm Sounds great to me, if a touch heavy on the veggies... and you are missing jelled cranberry sauce. But not everyone likes cranberry sauce. Any bread? I love those King's Hawaiian rolls... yummy! I've never had spaghetti squash, but I do love acorn and butternut. Is is similar in flavor, anyone know? |
| cabinfever | (reply to Amanda) posted 2-Nov-2005 8:10pm I have heard quite a few times about people eating cheese with apples or with apple pie, but I've never tried it... just doesn't sound right. But then, my hubby thinks I'm strange for eating peanut butter with my apples or peanut butter and banana sandwiches. |
| Amanda | (reply to cabinfever) posted 2-Nov-2005 10:33pm I like peanut butter with apples. Now that I think of it, I remember my grandfather eating red rind cheese with apples. He also ate cottage cheese with peaches. Yuck! |
| cabinfever | (reply to Amanda) posted 2-Nov-2005 11:04pm Hey, peaches are great with cottage cheese! I also use jelly with my biscuits and gravy, preferably grape. An old friend did the ol' "don't knock it 'til you try it" on me, and so I did, and I loved it... One of the other posters suggested the green bean casserole for the dinner, yuck there for me. Besides the fact that fried onions don't agree with me. |
| Amanda | (reply to cabinfever) posted 2-Nov-2005 11:11pm I either do biscuits and jelly or biscuits and gravy. I've never had all three together. Just doesn't seem American to put jelly with biscuits and gravy! |
| cabinfever | (reply to Amanda) posted 2-Nov-2005 11:21pm What's not American about it? Isn't that pretty much the basis for this whole country, to be able to try new things of our own volition? What I do is order b&g, then put bites of jelly with it as I want it. Putting the jelly on first and then putting the gravy over it makes the jelly melt and run.
Luckily for me, my family isn't big on the gb casserole. Whenever the fam gets together, it's usually BBQ, even in winter. Or we'll go out to Old Country Buffet. We don't have any family recipes to pass down. But from what I've heard when people say that it doesn't taste like mom's is that there's nothing wrong with the food, it's the fact that the loving person isn't making it anymore. Sounds like it's that way with you... |
| Amanda | (reply to cabinfever) posted 2-Nov-2005 11:28pm Was just picking about it not being American. However, I live in the deep south. I'd probably get shot if someone saw me eating biscuits and gravy with jelly. You just don't screw with the biscuits and gravy. |
| cabinfever | (reply to Amanda) posted 2-Nov-2005 11:43pm You may be right about getting shot.... at least you aren't making grits out of a box, or adding jelly to those. You could try b&g w/jelly in your own home |
| Amanda | (reply to cabinfever) posted 3-Nov-2005 5:59pm My mom was an awesome cook. She rarely, if ever, used recipes. She kept it all in her head. When we realized she wasn't going to make it, she told me a lot of her recipes, so I could write them down. Everyone in the family has a favorite that my mom made. The last two years, on the anniversary of her death, I make everyone's favorite and we all eat dinner together. We sit around the table, eating our favorite "mom" food, telling stories, laughing, and crying. It's our little yearly memorial. We're planning it again this year. The 29th of this month will be 3 years since she passed away.
Grits...gross. I think I'm the only southerner that doesn't eat grits. When I tell people I don't do the whole grits thing, they look at me like I'm crazy. I hate them, always have. The texture grosses me out, not to mention the taste (or lack thereof). |

Were you born in the South? Or are you a transplant? I've never tried grits. Thought about it, but just haven't done it. The texture's kind of grainy, isn't it? Sorry your mom is gone, but the yearly memorial thing is sweet. |
| Amanda | (reply to cabinfever) posted 3-Nov-2005 8:44pm I'm far from a transplant. I've lived in the south all my life. A born and raised southern girl. Yeah, grits are just what they're called. They are very grainy and gritty. Very nasty. |
