I know how to put gas in it, check the oil and water, and crank it. Oh, and I also know all about blinker fluid and muffler bearings. * grin *

I know a little bit. I wouldn't know what was going on if it suddenly started making a weird noise, though.

I think I know enough to know whether I'm screwed at the repair shop. And yes, I can change my own tire, check the various fluid levels and know what is acceptable based on the temp of the car. I occasionally check the hoses and belts, too. I could change the oil but for $20, let someone else do it and get rid of the old oil. * wink *

I learned to drive on my 1959 MG-A sports car. I belonged to several car clubs and did most of my own upkeep. I have been through engine rebuilds and have helped around automobiles all my life.

I would much rather have older cars where self maintenance is still an option.

mmmm, used to. They got a little too fancy on some of how it works. Do you mean like basics? Or detailed fuel injectors and electronic parts? I know basics, and what is supposed to happen, but I couldn't take it apart and put it back together without spare parts left under the tree. If I had directions I probably could.

I know enough. I can do alot of stuff to my vehicles myself if I have the time, but there's things I have to take it to the shop for too sometimes.

I don't have a car. I haven't owned a car for...24 years. I've got a pretty good idea about cars from the sixties and there about. I'd be lost with these new ones. Too high tech for me!

Well, I know how to take care of my car, by keeping it clean all the time. (Inside and out) I work part time at an auto detailer, and I always try to wash/vacuum it at least once a month. I do know how it works in some points, otherwise I would go to my mechanic and talk to him.

The basics etc, most modern cars , you need a computer tool to do diagnostics, and whereas when I was 18 I used to change exhausts, change camshafts, air filters etc (u still do this of course) but now to get an easy few extra BHP you do some "Remapping" with a plug-in to your car's data port.

So yeah, better than average

Which car are you referring to? My imaginary car? The only vehicle I drive is the delivery truck at work and they pay someone to maintain that.

 * laughing out loud * Yes, you did. We both bought cars from the same dealer.

Yes and no... Back in the day, I knew how to fix and maintain my old school vehicles that were exempt from computers and sensors. To this day, I'm still a 'do it yourselfer', but I find myself searching the net for answers with these technological wonders that seem to raise my blood pressure past the critical point. lol

If I had enough coin to shell out for a vehicle computer scanner and a basement full of tools, things would be a lot easier. All in all, I guess it's the same crape, but a different pile. As I get older, the last thing I want to do is fix my car, but I can't stomach how much shops charge these days. Obviously, they have to keep their techs and equipment updated... I'm just financially forced to tend to my car. By the way, never buy a Cavalier if you can afford not to... It's a real piece of crap. lol

Cars run on gas. You push pedals on the floor of the car to make it stop & go. There is a mirror in the car to check your makeup and freshen up your eyeliner and lipstick.
