| karmakat | posted 18-May-1999 8:52pm Believe it or not, I have pictures of my first AND second husbands. My current husband isn't thrilled about that. |
| Lizabeth | posted 18-May-1999 8:52pm On my desk, I have a picture of myself and a good friend. It was taken in front of the Statue of Liberty when I visited him in New York City and you can see Manhattan in the background. I love that picture. |
| mandy | posted 18-May-1999 9:09pm none...but I have a Marilyn Manson calendar that hangs on the wall above my head when I'm in bed and dreaming. |
| mandy | posted 18-May-1999 9:10pm and who needs pics on the desk? When I'm online, all my friends pictures are merely a click away :) |
| magbast | posted 18-May-1999 9:12pm well, there's a picture i took in high school for photo class...with a picture of they stuck inside the frame...various books...software boxes...two decks of tarot cards...some scattered cds...envelopes...pens/pencils....bills....and one cordless phone...sorry just started rambling...oh yeah..a hacky sack..i never use and a pager i never use either...and my guitar tuner....and a card i'm mailing to my dad tomorrow...that's about it...oh yeah...a computer... |
| Lizabeth | posted 18-May-1999 9:16pm mandy: Good point! Although, I guess if you wanted to get really technical about it, your computer is on your desk and the pics are on the computer. Well, maybe that's getting a little too complicated. |
| mandy | posted 18-May-1999 9:18pm Lizabeth...I hope to have some pics up soon. I could email you some if you are curious... |
| Pomeranian | posted 18-May-1999 9:39pm I have a picture of myself skiing on a cork board, and I have a picture of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as my wallpaper on the computer (does wallpaper count as your work area?) |
| mandy | posted 18-May-1999 9:45pm wallpaper? |
| hunter | posted 19-May-1999 12:04am I don't tend to personalize my workspace very much. I have a greeting card with "Bad Boys of the Arctic" (a photo of polar bears) on it, tacked to my computer, but that's about it. Jason and I are trying to get a good picture of the two of us and if that ever happens, I may put that on my desk. |
| hunter | posted 19-May-1999 12:07am Oh, above my desk at home (where I am now) are two composite panoramas I've taken, one of Boston and one of Paris. And above that is a Carl Lundgren print. And hanging above the desk is a stuffed parrot. |
| mandy | posted 19-May-1999 12:26am On our desk is our grape iMac....a mousepad with this squishy little bump full of jell to rest my wrist on. On my right is a Magic 8 Ball and a set of headphones. The CD rack is full of discs(games mostly). On the top shelf is a notebook, a binder, a lamp with a nifty little pencil holder full of pens, a copy of The Devils Mischief,a tiny little book simply titled The Moon, a thesaurus, a regular dictionary, a dictionary of quotations and a small figurine of Mickey Mouse dressed as The Sorcerers Apprentice, his arms raised as if directing my mayhem ;) |
| bill | posted 19-May-1999 5:46am I have mostly pictures of babies and kids (relatives send them to me in the mail, I don't know what else to do with them). Also a picture of Jen and I skiing and a picture of Iain Banks looking rather squinty and Scottish), and a wedding picture from my brother's wedding last year. All of these are on a giant corkboard to the left of where I sit at home. At work I have a photo-cube of Jen, Jen, Jen, Jen, Jen, and Jen. |
| Jody | posted 19-May-1999 9:18am I have a picture of my family, which includes my husband, his kids, his ex-wife, and her husband. It was a Christmas card we sent out a couple of years ago, signed "Erica, Emily, and their parents". I thought it was a pretty cool idea! |
| jjg | posted 19-May-1999 9:54am Fidel. |
| gilly | posted 19-May-1999 10:47am I have a picture of myself with my godson. Not sure if he counts as friend or family. |
| magbast | posted 19-May-1999 12:05pm we have an ansel adams print and a wild life expo promo framed...and this huge picture of a tiger...it's scary.......um..that's about it...oh yeah **twister...by wallpaper, pom meant the background of her monitor or desktop...just in case you were still wandering |
| supplicant | posted 19-May-1999 12:56pm Iain Banks? Ooh, where'd you meet him? :) I don't have any photos, just a Josh Kirby print, a Josh Kirby poster, a Josh Kirby calendar, an M.C. Escher print, a pop culture print of a bunch of Mickey Mouse dolls in a bowl, and an original painting used as cover art on an Australian authors book, currently sitting under my bed waiting to be framed :) |
| dpolicar | posted 19-May-1999 4:04pm well, I have a number of cartoons, but I guess that doesn't count. |
| anonymous | posted 19-May-1999 4:26pm magbast: Pomeranian is a he, not a she. |
| bill | posted 19-May-1999 4:31pm supplicant, the Banks picture is just a clipping from a magazine... |
| milktree | posted 19-May-1999 5:04pm I have a picture of my cat as the background of my monitor, does that count? |
| Pooh_Bear | posted 19-May-1999 5:32pm I have our wedding picture, a picture of my husband on the beach and a picture of my three bunnies. |
| Lizabeth | posted 19-May-1999 5:33pm milktree: That depends. Do you consider your cat to be part of your family? |
| jzp | posted 19-May-1999 6:00pm Seamus the Cat! |
| pandora | posted 19-May-1999 7:41pm none in my 'work area', but my room is full of pictures of all of these types. |
| Gamera | posted 19-May-1999 8:44pm Next to my drawing table I have a neat picture of my two SO's playing with their new computers together. Next to this desk I have an etching of a sketchbook/nature drawing. So in way I suppose each desk has an element of the other expressed in the imagery. |
| karmakat | posted 19-May-1999 10:50pm Okay, I've got to ask, just nosy, not judgmental--topper, you've got TWO SO's (I interpret that to be Significant Other, right?)? |
| supplicant | posted 20-May-1999 1:47am Bill: Ah, I wrongly assumed it was a photo you took at a signing or something. Struck me as a weird thing to have on your desk. Conversation starter I guess :) "Who's that?" "A really good SF writer! READ HIS BOOKS! READ HIS BOOKS!!!!" "Err... right... I'll just be going now..." ;) |
| magbast | posted 20-May-1999 12:31pm *inserts foot in mouth*...sorry pom |
| magbast | posted 20-May-1999 12:32pm it's weird...what we assume..just by what we read...weird i tell ya... |
| Mandy2 | posted 20-May-1999 10:26pm I have a ton of pictures of my pets(8 in all) and my SO, my friends, relatives and my old car (crashed). |
| Pomeranian | posted 20-May-1999 10:45pm magbast: :) |
| kadai | posted 21-May-1999 6:07pm my house picture (all the residents), my friend's kids, me & some friends performing at a cafe. |
| hunter | posted 21-May-1999 6:44pm I now have a picture of Jason and I taped to my typing stand at work. |
| hunter | posted 21-May-1999 6:45pm Oh, how embarrassing. I meant "Jason and me" there, really. |
| lizzie | posted 21-May-1999 8:11pm I have a single picture of my SO holding my cat. |
| magbast | posted 21-May-1999 9:02pm sure hunter, sure ;) |
| mandy | posted 22-May-1999 2:03pm well, that is very strange. I commented again on this survey yesterday but I do not see the comment *shrugs* oh well... |
| eris | posted 24-May-1999 8:02pm Used to have my SO, but I'm in a temporary office right now, so haven't bothered to set it up. |

| phi | posted 1-Jun-1999 7:55pm I'm not entirely sure how to categorize Sydney and Carlsbad. |
| gilly | posted 1-Jun-1999 8:10pm Pets? Family friends? Proof that your entire family is completely insane? I see what you mean... (Did you take the picture, or did they send it to you?) |
| milktree | posted 2-Jun-1999 11:10am phi, If I can call a picture of Lint a family picture, you can definattely call Sydney and Carlsbad family. They're family to your whole family! |
| lelle | posted 8-Jun-1999 6:17pm Usually I don't think there are any pictures around the computer desk (though there usually are pictures on the other desk). Right now, however, there is a photo of me from a bioboard lying on the desk. |
| drdt | posted 1-Jul-1999 4:53pm But I do carry a picture of my sister in my wallet. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 27-Jul-1999 8:33pm I have a Home office. I replace the boot screen, plus screen, desktop, screensaver, and desktop with abstracted artworks every two weeks, with images that represent the people and realms I'm working on. I make various portfolios of life experiences. Every month my latest photos hang out around my workstation waiting to be scanned. Only the photos of my blood and adopted neighbor children stay on the wall permanently. |
| Kristal_Rose | posted 27-Jul-1999 8:58pm karmakat: too bad about your husband. People should realize that loving someone else is not an indication that you love them any less. I still love my first wife and my brother who are married and have a third child of their own now. I dont mind that my SO still sees her her prior SO, and just consider it another topic amongst our mutual growth. |
