It sounds like a magical idea. Not for me, though.

I think it's maybe not the best idea to saddle a kid with an unusual but highly recognizable name like that... if you do... who are you naming the child for? Yourself or them?

I wouldn't use it, but if you want to, feel free.

Why would anyone willingly name their child, no matter the gender, a name that guarantees them daily bullying when they are in school?

I think not.

That's a name that would loudly proclaim to all the world that this lad's parents were tremendous geeks!

Not for me. It is nice name, but since it's so strongly tied to that quintessential wizard, I just rolled my eyes.

Merlin can't beat Solo... I say, "GO FOR IT!" You're gonna mess up the kids life anyway, so you may as well give it your all.

I wouldn't, but I wouldn't sit in judgment of anyone who did.

P.S. I once had a cat named Merlin.

I can see the appeal but I seriously would not inflict that upon a child.

Don't do it. For your child please don't do it. Think of all the other kids and how they will tease him.

Merlin is a fine name. Not only is it the name of King Arthur's magician, but a small European falcon.

I wouldn't name my kid Merlin.. just seems kinda mean, like how my mother wanted to name me Lettie. Why set your kid up to be made fun of?

indeed, it has been a while!

Suebee had mentioned the meeting to all of us here, how very cool!! After hearing about Alice again, I'll have to remember to tell my landlord about her, (she currently lives right outside of Seattle), and i know that she would enjoy such a show.
anyhow....glad you're back and alive and kicking!

I think it's asking for trouble. I would not give a child an unusual name if I could avoid it - if they want an unusual name, let them adopt it as an adult. Childhood is hard enough without giving people food for teasing...

Check our schedule at www.alicestuart.com because we have several gigs up that way... Duvall 8/31, Seattle Peace Concert 9/18, and The New Orleans Cafe down in Pioneer Square 10/7 (I highly suggest this one!)

If you are the kind of person that seriously considers naming their child Merlin, then you're also probably the kind of person child welfare officers will be keeping a close eye on. It would be less cruel to tattoo "kick me" across the kid's forehead.

I'm not sure I like Merlin. I like names that are out of the ordinary, but not those names that have a distinct image attached to them. Obviously, a boy named Merlin will be made fun of because of the wizard connection. I guess that doing that to your child is setting him up for rough times. There are plenty of original names that don't have pop culture imagery attached to them.

Merlin is a whole lot better than Mortimer like a friend of mine named his son.

What about the NASCAR driver named Dick Trickel and there a art supply store in Evansville Indian named Dick Glycks

Hire a bodyguard as soon as he starts school. He'll need one.
