| CarolL | posted 27-Aug-2005 11:37am It sounds like a magical idea. Not for me, though. |
| romkey | posted 27-Aug-2005 1:10pm I think it's maybe not the best idea to saddle a kid with an unusual but highly recognizable name like that... if you do... who are you naming the child for? Yourself or them? |
| Enheduanna | posted 27-Aug-2005 1:11pm I wouldn't use it, but if you want to, feel free. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 27-Aug-2005 1:13pm Why would anyone willingly name their child, no matter the gender, a name that guarantees them daily bullying when they are in school? |
| gsummers | posted 27-Aug-2005 1:18pm I think not. |
| Zang | posted 27-Aug-2005 1:32pm That's a name that would loudly proclaim to all the world that this lad's parents were tremendous geeks! |
| Irene007 | posted 27-Aug-2005 2:34pm I think; Why not? |
| gambler | posted 27-Aug-2005 2:44pm I would never name my child Merlin........... women would expect him to be a wizard in the bedroom |
| kirst | posted 27-Aug-2005 3:09pm Wouldn't be on my short list (or any list for that matter). |
| justjulie | posted 27-Aug-2005 3:14pm we considered naming Noah, merlin....well...at the end it was between noah and orion. now i have a baby kitty named orion |
| Amanda | posted 27-Aug-2005 3:24pm I wouldn't consider naming my child Merlin and don't really like the name. |
| mve17 | posted 27-Aug-2005 5:35pm merlin the wizzard |
| bombill | posted 27-Aug-2005 5:39pm Not for me. It is nice name, but since it's so strongly tied to that quintessential wizard, I just rolled my eyes. |
| verouge | posted 27-Aug-2005 5:53pm Damn, DO YOU WANT HIM TO KILL HIS SELF????? |
| teatree | posted 27-Aug-2005 6:49pm Do you hate the baby? |
| FauxLo | posted 27-Aug-2005 10:25pm Merlin can't beat Solo... I say, "GO FOR IT!" You're gonna mess up the kids life anyway, so you may as well give it your all. |
| Lahdee | posted 27-Aug-2005 10:51pm Tone it down a bit... name him Simon. |
| Frostbrand | posted 27-Aug-2005 11:21pm I wouldn't, but I wouldn't sit in judgment of anyone who did.
P.S. I once had a cat named Merlin. |
| they | posted 28-Aug-2005 1:51am um.. no. |
| Dino | posted 28-Aug-2005 5:09am I can see the appeal but I seriously would not inflict that upon a child. |
| ROCKMAN | posted 28-Aug-2005 9:30am I like the name but probably wouldn't name my kid that. |
| mdraught | posted 28-Aug-2005 10:47am Don't do it. For your child please don't do it. Think of all the other kids and how they will tease him. |
| patarnone | posted 28-Aug-2005 2:20pm Merlin is a fine name. Not only is it the name of King Arthur's magician, but a small European falcon. |
| justjulie | (reply to patarnone) posted 28-Aug-2005 2:22pm you're here!!!! welcome back |
| patarnone | (reply to justjulie) posted 28-Aug-2005 3:12pm thank you justjulie... been a while, hasn't it! And it was so good to meet Suebee in person! She came to a gig Alice did and had a great time! |
| ElvisFan67 | posted 28-Aug-2005 6:12pm It would be okay. In fact, there's an NFL legend named Merlin Olsen. |
| cichlide | posted 28-Aug-2005 7:54pm My grandfather's brother's name was Merlyn so I would have no problem naming my son Merlyn. |
| moonstone | posted 28-Aug-2005 9:29pm I wouldn't consider it for mine, but for anyone else...sure. |
| Danger | posted 29-Aug-2005 8:20am I wouldn't name my kid Merlin.. just seems kinda mean, like how my mother wanted to name me Lettie. Why set your kid up to be made fun of? |
| justjulie | (reply to patarnone) posted 29-Aug-2005 8:30am indeed, it has been a while! Suebee had mentioned the meeting to all of us here, how very cool!! After hearing about Alice again, I'll have to remember to tell my landlord about her, (she currently lives right outside of Seattle), and i know that she would enjoy such a show. anyhow....glad you're back and alive and kicking! |
| Jody | posted 29-Aug-2005 11:17am I think it's asking for trouble. I would not give a child an unusual name if I could avoid it - if they want an unusual name, let them adopt it as an adult. Childhood is hard enough without giving people food for teasing... |
| judgescratch | posted 29-Aug-2005 11:57am I knew a little girl named Merlinda. |
| cloudhugger | posted 29-Aug-2005 4:28pm Tis far too magical a name to alas name the lad Merlin. |
| patarnone | (reply to justjulie) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:01pm Check our schedule at www.alicestuart.com because we have several gigs up that way... Duvall 8/31, Seattle Peace Concert 9/18, and The New Orleans Cafe down in Pioneer Square 10/7 (I highly suggest this one!) |
| justjulie | (reply to patarnone) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:11pm cool! thanks for that...i shall save this to my favorites and pass along the info to her. i hope she gets a chance to check it out. |
| justjulie | (reply to patarnone) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:14pm the website is beautiful, btw |
| patarnone | (reply to justjulie) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:21pm and be sure to tell her to come up and say hi... I'm highly visible! |
| patarnone | (reply to justjulie) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:23pm everyone can see my Alice photos on www.pixsouls.photosite.com |
| justjulie | (reply to patarnone) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:25pm i shall indeed |
| justjulie | (reply to patarnone) posted 29-Aug-2005 6:28pm cool!

| autumnlight | posted 30-Aug-2005 5:25pm I'm a witch and even I would laugh and poke your child. |
| Iseult | posted 31-Aug-2005 12:25am Nah, I'd go for Mordred if I was in Arthurian mode. |
| bill | posted 1-Sep-2005 9:41am pretentious, nerdy, bad idea |
| iwish40 | posted 4-Sep-2005 11:43pm If I named my kid Merlin, everytime I said, it, I'd think of Merlin the Wizard. |
| Melf | posted 7-Sep-2005 2:59pm Poor guys, eh? |
| icurok | posted 9-Sep-2005 9:45am If you are the kind of person that seriously considers naming their child Merlin, then you're also probably the kind of person child welfare officers will be keeping a close eye on. It would be less cruel to tattoo "kick me" across the kid's forehead. |
| iwish40 | (reply to icurok) posted 19-Sep-2005 12:42am LOL |
| hypersky | posted 22-Sep-2005 11:23pm I'm not sure I like Merlin. I like names that are out of the ordinary, but not those names that have a distinct image attached to them. Obviously, a boy named Merlin will be made fun of because of the wizard connection. I guess that doing that to your child is setting him up for rough times. There are plenty of original names that don't have pop culture imagery attached to them. |
| jduPres | posted 2-Oct-2005 2:46pm Why would anyone be so cruel as to do this to an innocent baby? |
| kitti723 | posted 4-Nov-2005 10:39am I know a guy named Merlin so I'm prejudice. |
| Hollywood_l40 | posted 21-Nov-2005 9:36am Merlin is a whole lot better than Mortimer like a friend of mine named his son.
What about the NASCAR driver named Dick Trickel and there a art supply store in Evansville Indian named Dick Glycks |
| falkensmaze | posted 29-Apr-2007 2:17am Hire a bodyguard as soon as he starts school. He'll need one. |
