| darkshadowsseeker | posted 13-Aug-2005 5:41pm I don't have any. On the rate occasions when I shop for new clothing, I go for the colors and styles I prefer, not the brand names. Brand names mean nothing to me. What's important is that the clothing fits well, is in subdued colors, which I prefer and is affordable. That's all I care about. |

I do like to buy vintage clothes alot, some of them are brand names though.. |
| ElvisFan67 | posted 13-Aug-2005 6:24pm I never look for name brands--comfort is my biggest concern regardless of the brand. However, I only wear Fruit of the Loom underwear--it's the most comfortable. |

| bcollins | posted 13-Aug-2005 7:20pm I buy whatever is on sale. I'm an easy fit clothes-wise and as long as the clothing isn't a bright, screaming-loud color, I don't have a problem with it. I only buy shirts, slacks and jeans in colors such as browns, grays, blues and greens. With the blues and greens, I prefer a darker shade, not something like lime green. I rarely, if ever, pay attention to what brand the clothing is. I couldn't care less. |

| iamdonte | posted 13-Aug-2005 11:10pm I don't go for name brands....I go for what fits and looks good.
I wear a variety of clothes for a variety of reasons....I have work clothes, dressy clothes, and casual clothes. Prefer jeans and a t-shirt but can't wear that to teach in. |
| Galomorro | posted 14-Aug-2005 12:01am Well, I guess what I find at garage sales most often are Gap labels, but I don't pay a lot of attention to the brands I come across. If I think it might fit and if I like the way it looks, I buy it and try it on later at home. I only shop at garage, thrift shop dollar sales, or estate sales for clothing, and brand names mean nothing to me (except that I mainly don't like them because I think their store prices are too hi and I don't think they are worth it). Shoes don't mean anything either. I used to like ECCO but the last time I checked a local shop, I did not see anything I liked. I got a pair of hiking boots for over a hundred bucks at an online store last year but they wore out in a few months. So because of such a waste of my money (I am admittedly hard on shoes), I just pay five bucks or so for garage sale boots when I find 'em, as I did today. For jeans, whatever FITS. I am usually so happy to find something that's actually in my size! But I am usually not satisfied with guys' jeans because they are too straight-legged and do not fit well over boots. Women's jeans often are belled, and I wish guys' were also as I have always thought bells and flares looked good on me and everyone else. |

| cerealkiller | posted 14-Aug-2005 10:24am My favorite is the "clearance" brand. I don't care much for name brands. I prefer quality, fit, look first. And shirts that are wrinkle free. I have a couple of Ralph Lauren Polo shirts but I rarely wear them because they need ironing. I hate ironing. For jeans I actually like the K-Mart Route 66 brand. They're cheap and they fit well. Hard to find a K-Mart these days though. |

| Enheduanna | posted 14-Aug-2005 12:51pm I don't really have any favorites. I probably wear Gap the most just because they fit me well, they have cute stuff, and the prices are reasonable. But I really like the clothes better at a lot of other places. I think Anthropologie is really nice, but very expensive. I don't really generally find myself drawn to specific labels, though; it's more on an item-by-item basis. I do tend to like Donna Karan's designs, though. |

| MissTabby | (reply to Iseult) posted 14-Aug-2005 4:25pm Yes, I have heard that but I have never visited. Have you? What were your impressions? |
| Iseult | posted 14-Aug-2005 4:27pm I am a devotee of Alexander McQueen. I am soon going to go and erect a temple for him. Or use that money to buy clothes by him. My friend was saying how you can't find his stuff in department stores, but you can, in Holt Renfrew (here in Canada), which means I might be able to buy a pair of socks if I use my whole pay checks.
Regarding the things I can afford, I like Zara, Mendocino (I know it's not really a brand, just a store, but I can't list all the brands they carry), Marciano (although I hate Guess), FCUK (when it fits me - usually nothing by them fits me, and the store in Toronto carries considereably uglier stuff than what I saw in London), Aritzia (has some nice stuff every now and then, while other times it's everything for 7 year olds), Ben Sherman (virtually impossible to get here, except in Winners), J.Lo (I was surprised I like anything by that brand), Esprit (I fell in love with it in Europe), and Sisley. H&M is ... bearable, but sometimes it surprises me. I see they opened a MANGO store here, but it's as ugly as in Europe. American Eagle used to be decent... but again, it's for 7 year olds. They've been talking about opening Abercrombie and Fitch for years now, but I don't see it. It's probably going to be like overpriced American Eagle. For jeans I like David Buffalo the best. For past seven or eight seasons, all my shoes were bought in Aldo. I need a coat now, so I am going to check one of the department stores because of the variety. |
| MissTabby | (reply to Iseult) posted 14-Aug-2005 4:35pm These still remain my very best for me or my family. Gucci, Prada, Evisu, D&G, Stone Island, Etienne Ozeki, Armani, Hugo Boss, Paul & Shark, Moschino, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, CP Company.
But I also have Go Silk, Harari, Isda & Co, Joan Vass , Carmen Marc Valvo , David Meister Diane vonFurstenberg Dina Bar-el, Johnny Was Collection, Really, don't get me started on clothes.....I really am literally reaching for my credit cards! |
| Iseult | (reply to MissTabby) posted 14-Aug-2005 4:54pm I haven't. I didn't have enough time in London for it. All I had time for was to be sent from Selfridge, to Debenhams, to River Island, finally to John Lewis to track down Ben Sherman. |
| Iseult | (reply to MissTabby) posted 14-Aug-2005 4:56pm I am obsessed with clothes. Maybe now I cannot afford what I want but trust me, one day when I get steady income, I'll be starving myself so I can be carrying a Prada or Louis Vuitton purse around. |

| ScubaScott | posted 15-Aug-2005 10:46am My wardrobe is about 95% Ralph Lauren. Classic clothing for damn near every occasion that never goes out of style. The Polo Knit boxer shorts are the most comfortable underwear I've ever owned. Ralph Lauren "Polo" brand jeans (not Polo Jeans Company; those are crapty) fit wonderfully and don't wear out as easily as other brands. Polo T's, button ups, sweaters, sweatshirts, and short sleeve "polo" shirts are ridiculously comfortable, look good, are durable, and can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion.
The other 5% of my wardrobe consists of Kenneth Cole, Hart Shaffner and Marx, Helly Hansen, or stuff from Urban Outfitters. Footwear: In the summer I live in my Sperry Topsider flip flops (complete with razor siping on the soles). The rest of the year, I wear my Doc Marten's. Outerwear: Helly Hansen or North Face if I'm at the ski hill or snowshoeing. Brown or Black leather jacket the rest of the time. If I'm feeling particularly preppy, I'll throw on my Ralph Lauren Peacoat and a scarf. |
| judgescratch | posted 15-Aug-2005 11:40am I used to be a lot more into name brands than I am now. I was working in an industry where appearances were important. I bought a lot from J.Jill.
Where I am now, appearances are less important, actually, maybe as important but you don't want to be too, too, anything. Just regular. So, I purchased a good quantity of clothes last spring at Eddie Bauer - I got the wrinkle resist button down shirts in every color they offered. They are soooo easy, I recommend them to anyone. Worth the money, believe me. I'm going to get some long sleeved ones for the cold season. I haven't had my iron out all summer. I just rotate these shirts every week. |
