Are you particular about what type or style of spoon you use when you dine?

For instance, do you prefer the soup spoon with soup, a large spoon for eating large bites and the small spoon for small bites, or is it 'one size fits all'?

I usually use a soup spoon for soups, stews and cereal. I use a teaspoon for coffee or for eating something like Jello, pudding or ice cream.

I never really gave this much thought. About the only time I don't use a soup spoon is when I'm having hot tea, mainly because the spoon is a bit too big and I have iced teaspoons for iced tea because they are longer and it's easier to stir the sugar into the iced tea with them.. I really don't care to use a teaspoon as a serving spoon, such as for mashed potatoes. It's easier to use a soup spoon for foods like that.

I have three different types/sizes of spoons that I like to use. I use regular small (tea)spoons for things like granola, cereal, yogurt, and various other things. I use a large (table)spoon for things like soups and stews (not a big fan of soup spoons, and I don't own any). I also use these for serving certain things, and for getting avocados out of their skins. And then I have these little Chilean spoons that are slightly paddle-shaped that I use for ice cream and other desserts that I need a spoon for.

One size will work for me for pretty much anything, although generally I do prefer a certain spoon for desserts, my baby spoon..... it's so little and cute and makes me take smaller bites so the dessert lasts for longer. But a regular spoon works if my baby spoon is dirty.

I would have said I'm just odd!
It's amazing the variety of silverware options there are, though. There were pretty much just spoons and knives (one kind of each) until the Victorians came along with all their crazy hang-ups and decided there needed to be a special utensil for every kind of food item. God forbid you try to pick up the asparagus with the wrong kind of tongs, or worse yet with a dinner fork, or worse yet again with a fish fork.

When I was thinking about the survey, I was thinking of all the different spoons, forks and knives that may end up next to the plate on the dinner table. When I began eating at the fancier places, I was admonished for not using the "salad" fork before the "dinner" fork. As I tried all the different utensils, I realized that their purposes were sometimes necessary, so the used fork for the salad would be taken away and the clean fork could be used for dinner, etc for dessert. That makes alot of sense, rather than 'wiping' it clean on the napkin. Then I thought about all the different types of knives and I became overwhelmed far away from keeping the question simple enough. So I thought about all the spoons we use in day to day eating. Because of my mechanic background, I appreciate having the right tool for the job so to speak, and the different handles and spoon sizes do make a difference in the enjoyment of the meal. You are not odd, you are practical.

A soup spoon when I'm eating soup, just because it's a little easier to use. Otherwise, a standard teaspoon for anything other foods you would normally eat with a spoon. I'm flexible though. If I haven't got a soup spoon handy, a teaspoon works fine too.
