Is there something else you should be doing right now?

VotesAnswer
27No, this is leisure time for me and I'm freely enjoying it.
15There are other things I might get more out of doing right now than this, but I don't feel as though I "should" be doing them.
10I put a great value on this forum for learning more about other people's values and ideas, and taking the time to consider my own.
14There are personal obligations I should be meeting- keeping in touch with personal email, taking care of bills, or other personal issues, but I'm doing this instead.
11The other work I could or should be doing represents a large commitment of time/attention whereas I could quit doing surveys anytime I want.
4I am doing surveys while waiting for something to compile/render/load.
20In general there is work I should be doing, but not at this moment.
20There is a specific project/piece of work that I really should be doing now, but I needed/wanted a quick break.
7Because I have spent this time doing surveys I may fail to meet some other personal or professional goal of mine.
6I have just looked at the clock and am surprised at how much time I've been doing this today.
7I don't really think in terms of "should" in regards to my time allocation.
7I have other thoughts on the matter, but I'm not going to take the time to share them right now.
7I have other thoughts, which I will take the time to share.

I just pop over here and take 30 seconds to fill out a survey or two, when I want a quick break from work. Now I shall go _back_ to work.

I usually use SC at work, where I frequently have a spare minute or two. Hence, I am usually caught up on voting but not on commenting.

There's nothing specific I should be doing--but I certainly shouldn't be doing this.

Almost all of the options involved some form of fairly justifiable rationalization. Personally, I need an option more like:
"There is specific work that I should be doing right now, but I am filling out surveys instead because I am a lazy, undisciplined, unfocused, unmotivated person, and SC is a wonderful form of procrastination." *smile*

The timing (and questions) of this survey is excellent, I just took time off from work to answer a fairly long personal email. I didn't think then that "I should be doing work now," but after I sent off the email and popped over to my web browser that already had SC running I had a twinge of guilt as I clicked on this question, instead of getting back to work. Lately I've been trying to come to a better understanding as well as implementation of the priorities in my life, so I won't think in terms of "I should" and "I should not", but instead "I am/will" and "I am not/won't".

I just do whatever I feel like doing. I mix work with fooling around. I have phases where my brain is really good at work and I usually do work in those phases. Then I also have phases where I'm not so good about doing work, so I fool around. So far, no one has questioned me. I hope they look at the bottom line, what I produce in the end... that's what matters.

For me, SC is something I do at work; it is a very effective procrastination tool.

If I share my thoughts on the matter I can't do "just one more survey and I'm back to what I should be doing"... *smile* And yes, I think I can quit any time I want... *wink*

Since I do this in my leisure time at home, I don't usually feel there's anything more pressing that requires my attention, although there are days when I get behind on my share of the housework! I had considered doing a survey on how many people connect to SC from work. I had the day off today and the connection seemed slower during the daytime...I thought it might have been due to a lot of people visiting here at once, although I suppose the bottleneck could have been elsewhere.

I wish I could do this at work...but I have to work...at work.....:(
  • Do you people who use SC from work ever get in trouble for playing on work time or are you all luckily happily self employed or doing SC on break time? I am curious?

At my work, the managers don't dog us at well. They just assume we'll do our work, and we do. They don't care how we do it. I guess they don't get into the micro-manage thing. It's nice, but on the other hand sometimes I wish they'd give me a little more direction.

when I had a job, it was initially a matter of flipping windows when people walked by.. partly because my immediate supervisor was a goober, and related supervisors were pinheads. then I moved departments and the supervisor there had a clue, as long as the work was all caught up on, then it wasn't an issue. This was my view at the other position as well. Now that I am out of work, I don't have to worry about that. however, I do have to take time from my busy schedule of loafing around the house to go online and do surveys.. only 300 or so to catch up on.

I should be putting my groceries, but i need to relax after bicyling with $160 18 bags almost, all heavy staples. I got to spend a while with my favorite clerk, smoking cigarettes and exchanging life stories, under the guise of her helping me take my groceries out to the bike.
