You can make your own music, Ophelia, but can you keep milk from going sour on a hot July afternoon?

I chose refrigerator, since it would keep food items cold, like cheese for sandwiches, milk for cereal, and so on. I was looking for 'computer' on the list, and then realized that's not an appliance.

Refrigerator, of course. Someone in Alaska can find it superfluous, but here is needed even in winter...

I would definitely have a washing machine. I had to wash my clothes by hand for a whole year and it sucks. I can sing, so I can pass on the radio, and having a wood burning (cast iron) stove would be really cool. Umm, living without the refrigerator would be tricky.. but hey, at least I would be fine in the winter.

Fridge cause I would love to BBQ my food on the hibachi :)

ugh... I wanted an oven *and* a refigerator. oven/stove is more important, though.

Well, since computer wasn't on the list, I'd say fridge. I like to keep a bunch of food around so I can stare at it while saying "I have nothing to eat..." Bill: because "frige" would be pronounced so oddly.

Why is it that "refrigerator" has no "d" in it, but "fridge" does?

VERY tough choice, but I had to go with stove over stereo, since I can sing and whistle and stamp my feet, but it ain't gonna bake my bread. P.s. "Ain't" is in the dictionary, it appears, but "gonna" ain't.

I could get by without all but the refrigerator and stove. I chose refrigerator, but between the two, I am conflicted. *** Dahlia - a wood burning stove is still a stove, and you would then not be doing without one!

Hmmm...tossup between fridge and stove. If I had any other means of heating food, including an open fire outside, I would definitely pick fridge.

I'd say stove, because where I live, cooking with fire just wouldn't work all that well (though we do have a fireplace). And though shopping everyday for perishables is tedious, it's doable.

Refrigerator, because fresh food is difficult to keep with out one. I can cook food with out a stove/oven or microwave oven. I do not currently have a washer, I use a laundromat. I can live with out television, and I seldom listen to my cds, tapes or the radio. The refrigerator is the only one I use on a daily basis.

I'd be happier without a TV, and the food-related items I could live without by only a modest amount of rearranging my life (assuming nothing else were different about the world and I could still get Parmalat and so forth). Which brings it to washing machine or stereo, and there I think the stereo wins by a nose.
