| Matty | (reply to jettles) posted 26-Jun-2005 11:02am for natives, NYC is Manhattan; all the boros are "The City of New York," or "the five boros."
The reason is the Post Office. Manhattan is the only boro with "New York, New York" as the town and state part of the address. Where I come from in Queens for example, it is "Flushing, New York" as the city and state part of the address. When we go out, we go to "the City," aka Manhattan. "Sex and [the City]" was the only TV show or movie to ever get it right when they referred to Manhattan as "The City" and the other boros by their name. For example, when the redheaded lawyer moved to Brooklyn, everyone referred to where she lived by name "Brooklyn." That was right on. However, the rest of the world refers to the City of New York, all five boros, as "New York City." We do, too, when we talk to out-of-towners so as not to confuse, but since you said you lived there, I asked for the distiction. |

When I was a kid I lived in Gulfport, FL. the population now is 12,527. In Upstate NY where we recently moved from (St.Johnsville) population 2000. Here (Addison, IL.) the population is 35914. |
| Enheduanna | posted 27-Jun-2005 9:58am I'm not sure. It's probably San Francisco. I've lived in more populated areas, but never technically in the city which was the real reason for the density. But I actually live in the city of San Francisco, so I think that probably wins. |
| Amanda | posted 27-Jun-2005 3:10pm Vicksburg, Mississippi. I'm not much for big cities. While they are nice to visit, I would never live in a big city. |
