| Enigma |
When I was a kid about 14 or 15, the neighbourhood creep pitched a beer bottle at me and it shattered and cut a big hole in my foot (it was summer and I was wearing sandals). I still have that scar. Fortunately for me, that has been the worse. |

A dog bite, aside from accidents. I've been fortunate. |

um... someone spit in my face once. I got shot with a BB gun once... both pretty minimal. I can't think of anything significant. I guess I've been lucky. |

Well I didn't get hurt, But my glasses broke off my face. An ex-girl friend of mine slapped me in the face for no reason at all, so I slapped her cheek back, not nearly as hard as she slapped me, more just to wake her up and say "hey I can do that too!" and then she slapped me even harder than the first time and my glasses snapped in half. Gees females are crazzy. |

Being mugged can cause an injury...
I broke my arm right below the wrist. My friends say, "you can dunk it!". I say "No I can't". I finally give in. I don't jump high enough (I knew I wouldn't), and the ball hit the rim. I went vertical with the ground, and caught all my weight with my wrist. Ouch. |

Nothing more than a bruise. I was slugged in the face one time when I was a teenager.
Oh, and when I was about 10 a kid hit me in the eye with a dirt clod. The doctor flushed the dirt out of my eye and I had to wear a bandage over my eye for a few days. |

A drunk girl (much bigger than me) punched me in the mouth in a bar. All my front bottom teeth went right through the skin under my bottom lip and now I have a prominent scar. That hit also split my top lip right through from front to back and I have a nice scar that even lipstick doesn't cover. |

having my head opened up in numerous places by an aluminum baseball bat and having many stitches placed into my head. or maybe spending 2 weeks in the hospital after a severe domestic violence beating. |

I've never been injured by a violent act perpetrated by somebody else. However, I've had more than a few cuts and bruises as a result of my own stupidity. I once stabbed myself in the hand with a kitchen knife by accident. |

shrapnell stuck in my calf; I was told that through years of work, I would be able to walk. I returned to active duty in just under six months and I currently run every day and play Rugby |

None, never been injured seriously in any way. Worst thing was a chipped bone in my finger and sprained ankle falling on icy porch stairs. |
| leahdoll |
A neighborhood kid pushed me into a snowbank and I scrached my face on some ice in the snow. When I came to school with scratches the next day, my teached asked me what happened and I told her I had been pushed by another student. He got called into the Principal's office and probably reprimanded. I now realize that she probably thought my parents had done something to me and was investigating. |

A bruised sternum or a bruise on my arm. I haven't been in a fight since I was 12 years old, but back then I fought all of the time. Wait, I did receive a concussion during a high school football game when I was blind-sided downfield. It didn't hurt, or if it did I don't remember it. |

I broke my arm when my brother pushed me off the settee when I was 2 or 3. I'm not sure I'd class that as violent exactly as he was probably pushing to hurry me up more than anything. He threw an ice-cube at me once though and I got a huge lump on my head. |

Oh I forgot - a boy at school kicked me in the backside for absolutely no reason when I was about 13. If you've never had your tail bone kicked hard by a lad in big boots then you can have no idea how painful that is. I could barely sit down for the next few days. I hate that that's my clearest memory of him - he was murdered 4 years after that... |

I tried to stop an elderly neighbour being mugged and received a bruise on my face from where he hit me with the handbag. I haven't received injuries from any other crimes I've witnessed/been a victim of, thankfully. |

It is, unsurprisingly, a little embarrassing. It happened shortly after I had moved into my first house. I went through something of an experimental phase when it came to the kitchen. I tried making all sorts of things, usually with disastrous results. Certainly, the neighbours couldn't have been too happy that the smoke alarm in my hall kept going off every other day!
This time, I was trying to make some kind of hybrid toffee-caramel despite not having the first clue how to make it or having any access to anything remotely resembling a recipe.
What I ended up with at the bottom of my saucepan was what I can only describe as a mean looking gelatinous glue with an acrid, burnt-sugar smell which I then poured onto a saucer and left to cool down. Only when it did, did I realise that it had set like concrete and was now stuck fast to the surface of the saucer.
In hindsight, the outcome of what I chose to do next should have been glaringly obvious to someone who professes to be reasonably intelligent. But hey, sometimes I'm a moron.
Not having any household tools yet (like say, a chisel), I decided to use what I thought was the next best thing - a kitchen knife with a 4 inch blade and a serrated edge. Holding the rim of the saucer securely with my left hand, I set about hacking and stabbing at the hard sugary monstrosity from the other side with my right. Not surprisingly, after several attempts at this the knife went straight over the top and straight into my left hand. Surprisingly, it didn't actually hurt half as much as I thought it should, being instead quite numb. I was actually worried that I couldn't move my two middle fingers although the feeling came back a little after about half an hour.
What I'm left with now is a pair of scars in the palm of my left hand. One is about 1cm across in the space between my 'Head line' and my 'Life line' (this is where the tip of the blade penetrated the skin). The other is a 2cm scar on the inside of my thumb or 'Mount of Venus' (this is where the blade sliced across, opening up a flap of skin).

I got crap beaten out of my when I was small. Does that count?
I also used to fight with boys through grades one and two. There was this bway, I think his name was Peter, I beat the crap out of him for two days in the row, but he got me good on the third day. |

I moved into safer areas of cooking like pasta and curries. Things that don't involve knives . |

I have to avoid potato peelers - I usually skin my fingers. Who knew that kitchen utensils would be so challenging? |

I went to a formal dinner today at another Oxford college. Luckily I know that you always work from the outermost set of cutlery inwards, but the knife for the starter was like nothing I had ever seen before. It looked like a cake slice, but a much smaller version. I had to ask my more cultered friends who explained that it was a fish knife. I'm going for the excuse that I was thrown because the vegetarian starter wasn't fish...but really, I just didn't have a clue. Utensils certainly are challenging!!! |
