| bill | posted 4-Jun-2005 7:11am I blog about it. |
| Biggles | posted 4-Jun-2005 8:19am I'm fine with blood and needles and prefer to watch. I did faint once after about 6 vials had been taken, but I was very ill at the time and hadn't had blood taken since I was a baby so had worked myself up over it. I haven't fainted on subsequent occasions, nor even felt faint. What I hate it the way they probe around inside my arm, then pull it out and restick me, probe, pull out, try the other arm, etc. because getting blood out of me is akin to getting it out of a stone - not easy! |
| ROCKMAN | posted 4-Jun-2005 8:33am I can watch, needles don't bother me at all |
| sexy1 | posted 4-Jun-2005 8:51am i hate needles, i pass out or feel sick everytime i have one! |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 4-Jun-2005 9:43am I set there and watch them take my blood and it doesn't bother me. |
| Matty | posted 4-Jun-2005 10:12am I don't see the big deal; it's not like pulling hot metal out of your bleeding leg |
| Enheduanna | posted 4-Jun-2005 12:00pm Sometimes I can watch, sometimes I'd rather not. But I'm always fine and I've never fainted. |
| Iseult | posted 4-Jun-2005 2:09pm I like needles, being cut, and bleeding. I get kick out of vaccinations and blood tests. |
| gambler | posted 4-Jun-2005 5:16pm I have given blood about 50 times so its no problem......... In the UK I used to go because I would get beer and sandwiches afterwards (no alcohol if its your 1st time) |
| kirst | posted 4-Jun-2005 8:37pm It doesn't bother me at all. |
| bcollins | posted 4-Jun-2005 8:38pm About the only time blood has bothered me is when a low-budget horror movie over does it with the fake stuff, when the stuff just fountains out of a body. Otherwise, I'm okay. |
| Zang | posted 4-Jun-2005 10:23pm I'm a great big fainter! |
| SueBee | posted 5-Jun-2005 1:37am I prefer to look away while they stick the needle in, but once it's in there I can watch the rest without any problem. Many years ago I donated plasma regularly for a a few months and that was like donating a pint of blood, but then after they extracted the plasma they put the rest back into you. That involved sitting there with the needle in your arm for 30 minutes or so. It was an interesting experience -- especially the feeling of the blood going back in after it had cooled off a bit. |
| darkroomdanny | (reply to SueBee) posted 5-Jun-2005 6:55am That does sound interesting. Did you have it done because you are a rare group or something? |
| Biggles | (reply to darkroomdanny) posted 5-Jun-2005 6:58am That's how they used to collect plasma in the UK too (though you can also get it by extracting red blood cells from old blood once it's past the use by date as the plasma lasts a lot longer). Now all our plasma comes from US donors (not sure why from the US rather than Europe...maybe it's both or maybe the US just has such an excess). |
| cloudhugger | posted 5-Jun-2005 8:42am Badly enough that I don't want to answer this one. |
| SueBee | (reply to darkroomdanny) posted 5-Jun-2005 1:02pm No, actually I shouldn't have used the word "donating" because they pay for it. I saw an ad in the paper about earning extra money. I was married at the time, and we were young and broke. With both of us going in twice a week (the maximum allowed) at $7.50 a pop, we made $120/month which was a fair amount of money to us at the time.
I have donated whole blood a lot in the past, too, but then while I was a vegetarian my iron level was too low and they wouldn't let me donate. Also, you have to wait 12 months after getting a tattoo. I should go try it again. I'd probably pass the screening now. |
| they | posted 5-Jun-2005 1:32pm I had to choose "something else"
As a lot of you know, I was in the hospital for a long time last year. Every day, several times a day- and every night, several times a night-- someone came into my room to take blood. I also had an IV in the whole time, which had to be re-inserted at least weekly, but usually more often than that. Sooo... I now know that it is possible to collapse almost all veins in your body! Now I just start out laying down when they take blood.. Luckily, my veins have puffed back up and they usually get it on the first time. The last time I had blood work done, my daughter came in and held my hand because I held hers when she got her shots for school |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 5-Jun-2005 3:35pm I have been getting my blood checked like every 2 months or so, because I am at risk for a heart attack and I have high cholesterol and sometimes high blood pressure, I have been taking Lipitor for my high cholesterol and my blood pressure I just had it checked and it was very good. |
| TrinityAnn | posted 5-Jun-2005 8:13pm i do fine, im used to it, i donate blood occasionally and as a child had to prick myself to test my blood sugar levels-looked sort of like a pen and you put your finger right up against it then pressed a button |
| Updown | posted 6-Jun-2005 12:49pm I give blood regularly so I am used to seeing needles and my own blood. It never has bothered me. |
| darkroomdanny | posted 6-Jun-2005 5:20pm I take blood for blood tests for a living (Phlebotomist) so it's interesting to see the different reactions. It pretty much mirrors what I see at work. I've only had one fainter in 2 years and those who know they feel "funny" ask to lie down before hand (usually) so that always helps. Young men seem to go pale and sweaty more than anyone else - and need to put their head between their knees! |
| autumnlight | posted 8-Jun-2005 4:01pm I can take innoculations fine, but I hate a blood test. I think it's because its from the elbow, I don't know, but it sends me queasy. It's making my elbow feel funny just thinking about it. |
| Jemmy | posted 9-Jun-2005 12:23am I don't like to look. I try to forget the fact that its happening at all, I don't like needles or blood. |
| 44444 | posted 26-Jun-2005 9:23am I LOVE having my blood taken! It is such an adrenilin rush. I always look at my arm when they are taken it. The only blood taking method I really hate is the finger pricks. |
