Return on investment

On average, how much interest did you earn on your savings in 1998?
Don't count money made gambling in casinos, or invested in your own startup business, or that sort of thing -- I mean "traditional" investment income (banks, stocks, bonds, venture capital, etc.).
For simplicity, ignore inflation, tax consequences, and purchases of material goods (including real estate) even if they have appreciated or declined in value or provide you with income.
If you can't narrow it to a single percent, check several answers defining the likeliest range.

It's just too hard for me to calculate, the majority of my "savings" is tied up in highly volatile stocks.

i don't really know nor care. most investments that really matter are qualified (retirement) benefits, and are meaningless examined on a narrow scale.

I got like 3% on my savings, 2% on my checking, and somewhere between 13% and 24% on different mutual funds and stocks. Overall probably about 10%, but I'll do better this year because I have more money in higher return things and less sitting in my checking acct.

Thanks to the wonder of employee stock purchase plans, I own a lot of stock in the company I used to work for. Unfortunately, it went way down * frown *

You know, it's odd. I consider myself a mature and involved adult- and a liberated and professional female. Yet, I really enjoy the freedom I have to remain basically uninvolved in the family finances. Mostly, I just don't like dealing with or thinking about money.

topper -- yeah, I've often had the thought that I want a husband to support me, repair the car, and take care of the family finances. This thought causes me no end of amusement on occasion.
