Have you ever asked your waitstaff to return a meal as it was not to your liking?

Over cooked, under cooked...ingredients you didn't ask for...the wrong order, a strange taste...too cold..etc..
Some people make a habit of returning their meals...if it is not precisely what they ordered. Some people do not speak up and eat whatever they are served.
Which one are you?

Never. It would take a lot for me to do that - it being burned, or containing meat.

Yes, I have, but I don't make a habit out of it. The only time I'll do it is if meat is not cooked to my liking (well done) or if I am served the wrong thing. I've never been served a cold meal, but I'd most likely say something if I were.

I have a couple of times, when the meal was flawed - undercooked. Not just because I didn't like what I'd ordered.

Once when I found a hair in my pasta; and once when I ordered something without meat and it came with meat. If it's just a matter of taste, I usually suck it up, because it's not like there's a guarantee that you'll like the flavor of everything you order. It's not their fault if I don't like it.

Yes, but only because the steak was undercooked. I don't tolerate rare meat very well and have problems digesting it. I asked for medium well and got bloody rare. It wasn't the waitress's fault as she didn't cook the meat, but the cook's fault.

 * laughing out loud * Yep! I used to eat rare steak, but since I've developed IBS, I can no longer do so. I actually prefer my steak rare, but it isn't worth the hassle and the very bad evening and night I will have if I do eat it rare.

Yeah, they messed up my order. They gave me fries instead of rice and spicy chicken instead of regular chicken. And at the same time they gave me ranch dressing when I asked for Italian.
Once I ordered food from East Side Mario's and what I ordered was not what I had in mind so I called them and told that they messed up my order. One of the reasons I did is because I got extremely mad since they put bacon in my Caesar. We never put bacon into ours when I was growing up so I grew up with preconcieved idea that Caesar does not contain bacon bits and that it's just fancy of some people and I always forget to tell them not to put any.

Yes I have when I've gotten burnt food. One time at Denny's I got a plate of pancakes that were absolutely burnt black. Why the line cook thought that was acceptable is beyond me. If I want burnt pancakes I'll make them at home but I expect a restaurant cook to do better than I do cooking-wise and have more experience and pride in their work. The manager walked by just as the waitress was placing the plate of pancakes in front of me and asked her why she brought out burnt food to a customer. She told him that she had complained to the line cook but he told her that I liked them that way. I don't and can't imagine why he thought that because I didn't know who he was and doubt he knew me. The manager went into the kitchen and chewed out the line cook and came out, apologized and said I could have anything on the menu for free. I reordered but asked that someone else cook my food because I was now worried that the reprimanded cook might retaliate in some manner. On a later visit to Denny's I learned that he had been fired that night because this wasn't the first time he had done crap like this. It seems he was putting the food on and then going out back and taking extra breaks and not keeping an eye on the food he was cooking. I'm not a fussy person for the most part but I refuse to eat things such as burnt pancakes.

I agree. Even though he was a cook a Denny's and not some fancy restaurant, I feel he should have taken some kind of pride in his work. I'm not asking for a gourmet meal but I expect what I order to be cooked properly.

Yeah, but not recently enough that I recall specifics. It isn't something that I do habitually. I suppose that I would rather eat what they hand me, at the same time as my companions, than eat something that the waitstaff have taken back to the kitchen and spat on whilst my companions are getting restless and eyeing the door.

To tell you the truth, I have never thought about returning a meal. Maybe if there is like, a nail, or something in it. I have seen lot's of under-cooked meals, but I just ate them, or didn't eat them. If I am paying a lot for some meals, I think I might ask for one that's hotter, colder, etc. But, i never have, and probably never will.

I agree. If the food tastes bad, that isn't their fault, unless it tastes bad because it's burnt, under-cooked, butter when you asked for no butter, etc. But, if you order something new and you don't like it, they won't refund you and give you something new. If my order got messed-up, for example, I got pasta when I wanted pizza, yeah, I will say something.
