Which "web lingo" word, acronym, or symbol annoys you most?

i don't mind acronyms like "LOL" or "IMHO" but i can't stand purposely misspelled words or abbreviations, such as "plz", "kewl", or "ur".

it's "lol" - by far. Peopls use it in the most inappropriate ways. They insert it after any phrase they know will offend people, just to excuse the fact that they said something offensive or unpleasant. Ugh.

PWNing/OWNing of all kinds.
Substituting 'da' for 'the' and 'dat' for 'that'.
I don't mind smilies but I find "O_o" and "^_^" irritating.

Most of them don't annoy me in the context of a survey comment. However, they have no place when writing/creating a survey or its options. You shouldn't be using text message style writing when you are creating a survey for a number of reasons, some being that it's lazy and sloppy looking and not everyone does text messaging so they may not understand what you are trying to say. Surveys should be done in a standard format that everyone can read and understand. After the survey qualifies and you want to comment text message style, go right ahead!

To tell you the truth...I hate the chat lingo. But, I love the smilies! & I still don't know what the top are !! Somebody please tell me, cause I tried looking them u p & I still haven't found these.

Kewl bugs me most for some reason. I guess because it reminds me of the word kewpie, like a kewpie doll, which makes me picture a kewpie doll, of which I am not a big fan.

A lot of people (and when I say people, I mean teenagers) swap letters for numbers. So l33t (or even worse, 1337) is actually leet, which is itself short for elite. It's used primarily by hackers and internet gamers (especially people who play Counter Strike).

all the ones that i don't use are annoying. i only use lol, smiley faces, brb, and ttyl or gtg.

if i shorten a word then it's in the same format i use to shorten it when i'm taking down notes. eg because becomes bcs.

It only bothers me when someone tries to make a survey using web lingo or sends me an e-mail composed entirely of web lingo. Seeing as I'm not that familiar with all the terms, sometimes I can't understand what is being said and that's not just frustrating but annoying to me.

Fair enough, if the stupid word requires less effort to type. Like 'lol' - much easier to type than 'laugh out loud'. But there is no point to 'kewl' - not saving you any letters, you may as well say 'cool'. They're the annoying ones.

That's hilarious! My mum has actually used 'rofl' as a verb once - as in 'I rofled. You computer geniuses are pretty scary.

Web lingo doesn't really annoy me that much, if it's just in casual chatting. It starts to annoy me when people use it constantly or when they use it when having a serious conversation (or when making a survey!).

i think i have a log somewhere with my sister's old msn convos (she's 13). they're ghastly. didn't know like could be spellt lykk.

I like web lingo. When I started ICQ 5 years ago, I typed "grammatically correct." I got laughed at and told I'd soon learn the shortcuts. Now I can lingo ok. I like "kool" because of letter location on the keyboard. Hate the upper/lower case names, very hard to read.

A chav is slightly different from white trash, I think... they are more associated with petty crimes and being thick than big crimes, like incest. Their biggest crime is probably having bad taste- too much burberry, anything gold and plastic, pedal pushers. Generally, they've got a strong accent, and give their children really bad names. I have pics.

Where I come from, the word "chav" is also used instead of "steal", for example, I might say, "can I chav a jerk?"

Its not specific to the young, but I guess generally teenagers... chavs can mutate into "dobbers" a lesser known term for overweight, legging-clad, loud-mouthed women.
