I closed my checking account after there was an unauthorized use of my ATM number (not the password) in Geneva. I believe it was a big internet scheme, as I make zero purchases with said ATM card. It just came with the account.

Only reason I open the account was for direct deposit of my SS check. It now will come to the house and my landlady/friend will deposit it and give me leftover cash back after rent.

I figure, zero bank account, the ID thieves can't get credit in my name. I also have red flags with all the credit bureaus. Identy theft is a real problem, I'm lucky I can live without banks.

A current account in Canada is an industry term for a business's bank account. A chequing (not the american spelling of checking) account is a personal account against which you write cheques to pay for things.

I have been playing poker since college, circa 1992. I currently play cards with some friends of mine. They gamble all the time. They take trips to North Carolina, Atlantic City, bet on ballgames, and play poker three nights a week. I only play a couple of times a month. I do love the game though. Texas Hold'em is my favorite. I always play it on my deal.

Texas Hold-em is THE game............ I play limit holdem on line, normally I two table at $2/4 limit I do not like NL as its too much like a lottery * smile * , I do not have the patience of REAL tables as you can only play one and you only get about 20 hands an hour online I get about 80-100 hands an hour so its not as boring

Those are some quick hands. I take it you don't play around with a bad draw? Our games tend to drag, because everyone is running their mouths. I do not know what it is like in a casino setting. What is the limit per bet on the 2/4...is it based on the blinds? We have a table limit of a five dollar bet, but that applies to all games including Texas Hold 'em.

OK, at $2/4........ blinds are $1 and $2, maximum of 4 raises, so if you are a $2 Big blind and people keep raising and you stay in then the cap is $8 (max 4 raises), after flop it is still only $2 bet, again maximum of 4 raises, turn and river the becomes $4 again only 4 raises maximum on each street.

So theoretically if you capped the betting pre-flop and capped every street it would cost $48... but i have never seen it.....does this make any sense?

quick hands yes, but remember a good player on average should not be seeing more than maybe 20% of hands........ I also two table, so thats why I can see 80-100 hands an hour.

Casino setting, is ok they have an auto card shuffler with two decks in the middle of the table so the dealer after every hand just lifts a flap and extracts the newly shuffled cards and replaces the "just played" deck back in for next time.................still slow for me

AS for playing around with a Bad Draw , this happened yesterday:

I had K7h, UTG , and called... anyway by the time it gets back to me 5 people have capped the betting so I call, why because of pot odds and equity...........with $48 in before the flop!!

anyway a 7 flopped and a K rivered winning me the hand,,,,,,,,, One player was not happy, but with like I said with 6 people in pre flop and it was capped! all those players gave me the odds to call........ so yes it was a crap hand made good by the odds

Kind of, with this amount of money in pre-flop its worth calling pretty much anything because if you are on a draw you will have the pot odds to call............ with a gutshot draw you need at least the pot paying you 10.5-1 with $48 in the pot already you have more than enough odds right there......... and with an open ended draw you only need 4.75-1 odds .......... if the bet is $4 the pot odds are 12-1

(reply to gambler) posted 3-Jun-2005 11:52am
I have only played with 4-6 at the table. I can only imagine how long our games would take if there were 8-10. Where do you play online?
Updown
(reply to gambler) posted 3-Jun-2005 11:55am
Please explain:

1. Gutshot draw
2. 10.5-1 odds with a $48 pot
3. Open ended draw (this might mean what I think it means) at 4.75-1 odds

Wait a minute, I get it. $4 to $48 is 12-1. I still can't figure the term Gutshot.

gutshot draw (A straight that requires an inside card to complete. Also known as a Belly Buster)............ 9,7,5 is the flop.......... you have A,8 in your hand , you have 4 outs (one of the four 6's) so for you to call a $4 bet there needs to be at least $38 in the middle for you to correctly make your call. (10.5-1 odds)

Open-ended (A straight that can be completed either end ) meaning you have maybe 8,10 in your hand and A,9,7 flops.......... you have 8 outs (four 6's, four J's) the odds here are 4.75-1........... so to correctly call a $4 bet there needs to be at least $15 in the pot.(4.75-1 odds).......... this is a simple explanation, i have not touched on implied odds , Pot Equity etc

You can try to explain implied odds and pot equity, but only if you really want to. I am always eager to learn. Especially if it can save/make me money.

gutshot also known as an inside straight draw.

mmmmm its kind of tricky?........ in the open ended example I gave you, if someone was to bet $4 to you, the right thing would be to raise to $8 to increase your Equity,

Implied odds put simply is , even though you may not have enough pot odds to call, you may still want to call because of the expected action you WILL get should you make your hand.......... so its not what is in the pot NOW, its what WILL be in the pot later.......simply put.

I get it. In other words to in a situation where the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor, say 10-1 when all you need is 4.75-1, then you have the room to bet more money, and Implied Odds is used to play for an extremely valuable score. Do I have that right?

.............Be careful here. Yes, you have overwhelming pot odds but that does not mean you are NOW more likely to make your straight (The cards do not know how much money is in the pot) it just means that you SHOULD call or raise, NOT FOLD. .............

implied odds.......... Ok, there are 4 people in the hand and you have a gutshot draw, the correct pot odds you need is 10.5-1, however say the bet to you is $4 and there is only $35 in the pot you are only getting 9.75-1 so technically you are making an unprofitable call, ........But, the money you make if you hit your straight, will more than make up for the "bad" call..... this is your implied odds

I am sorry............ the "Absolute nuts" is a hand that cannot be beaten............. :

e.g you hold J9............ the board is A, 10, 8, 7, 2 (different suits)......... No matter what anyone else has you CANNOT be beaten.......... someone may hold J9 also, but you would split the pot.
