On second thought, there are things on this list I would pay extra to not have on my new car.

well...most of them you don't hafta pay extra...you can custom order your car...and you'd be surprised what you would pay for items that you would normally take for granted...like an ashtray or am/fm radio....

I'd pay extra for a manual transmission. I'd pay extra for real seat belts instead of airbags, but that's not possible. Some of them are very dependent on the vehicle class: Power brakes were superfluous on my colt but they are a necessity on my scout.

bill...i think daver should get the globule for "superfluous"

I wouldn't pay for them to put in a tape/radio, because I'd probably bring one from an existing car or buy a new one, but I would pay extra for 4 speakers factory-installed, rather than 2.

I don't think I'd consider a car that didn't come with ABS as a standard feature...

A lot of these options I wouldn't pay extra for, because they should be standard equipment.

I chose the things I would absolutely need in a car, but there may be others I would pay extra for, depending on the price.

I chose the options that came with the last car I bought. They must have been things I was willing to pay for, because I paid for them.

intermittent wipers, better gas mileage, tinted glass, passenger side mirror, nice floor mats, clock, quieter compartment

i live in the HOT HOT HOT south and must have air conditioner for the summer months, i also chose all of the music choices- am/fm, tape and cd., plus the sun/moon roof......
question--Is an ashtray an option?, oh wait- it must be, because all those smokers i see flipping their cigs out the window must not have chosen that option!!!! hahaha

passenger side mirror! how could I forget! last car we bought (used) was missing this option, so we went out and bought one and put it on; that and the CD player are the only options I've actually paid extra for in real life.

I'd pay extra for some things you can't get in a new car, like a frame and good bumpers (15-mph or so).
I would pay extra for a manual transmission, though it would annoy me to do so.

Magbast: I didn't realize how many of these things I'd pay extra for. All the cars I've looked at had some package that had most of them as "standard", except for the Saturn, which bascially had nothing unless you paid extra for it.

Power mirrors. That's not important in my truck because Lara won't drive it. But in any vehicle we both drive, I want power mirrors.

phi, I opted not to get my passenger side mirror (I was being really cheap when I bought my Civic). I don't really miss it, but if I had to do it over again I would pay for it (and the digital clock too). ...and the floor mats.

I need some form of music in the car, I don't care if it is radio, tape or CD. Actually I prefer a tape deck to a CD player since I can't yet burn my own custom CDs. I would have said A/C years ago but now I prefer the windows down anyways. Aren't anti-lock brakes pretty much standard now? I'd also pay extra for a custom license plate.

tool racks! I'm beginning to jones for a small truck or mini-van. If I was replacing the passenger car the major biggies would be power steering, power windows, the bigger engine.

I'd be willing to pay extra to have a manual transmission. Fortunately, one doesn't usually have to. It would have been useful to put a minimum dollar amount. I marked larger engine, though it doesn't have to be more cylinders - the last car I bought my choice was substantially influenced by a 2.0 L (4 cyl) engine vs. a 1.6 L (4 cyl) engine.

many of these, though of course it depends on how much they cost.

Oh yes, the data would appear to show that I'll only buy a car if it has a goofy paint job.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, it's essential to have intermittent wipers. It's getting to the point where we'd get a lot of use out of air conditioning, too. Go figure...

I wouldn't pay extra for any of them it better come with a radio cassette or cd and air conditioning or I wouldn't buy it, I need nothing else.

Twister: research ABS carefully before deciding that's really what you want, it isn't all it's cracked up to be.
