| Biggles | posted 18-Mar-2005 4:42am I have only ever used a microwave, but I've only made popcorn a handful of times in my life. I do see bags of popping corn in the supermarket though with instructins on how to pop it in a large saucepan. Probably a lot cheaper than buying the microwave bags (and salt-free), but I don't have a large saucepan. |
| bill | posted 18-Mar-2005 6:55am I'm not sure what you mean by "traditional methods". At this point, microwaves seem pretty traditional to me. The only other 2 ways I know to make popcorn at home are hot air popper appliances and jiffy-pop (over the stove, tin-foil expanding, thingamabob). Neither of these seem "traditional" to me. |
| gambler | posted 18-Mar-2005 7:52am microwave |
| CarolL | posted 18-Mar-2005 8:10am Always the stove top. The trick is to not put the lid on too tightly because the steam will make your popcorn wetish and heavy. And keep it moving or it burns. MMMMMmmmmmmm. |
| romkey | posted 18-Mar-2005 8:20am I don't much like microwave popcorn. It's usually way too greasy. I usually air pop popcorn - but usually means less than once a year; we hardly ever eat popcorn at home. |
| icurok | posted 18-Mar-2005 8:45am I wouldn't eat popcorn unless I was at the cinema, but even then it's a rarity. |
| Cain | posted 18-Mar-2005 10:02am I only eat popcorn at the cinema. |
| Galomorro | posted 18-Mar-2005 10:16am I don't eat popcorn. |
| Matty | posted 18-Mar-2005 10:21am Microwave when I want something quickly: on the stove (pot and oil) when the family watches home theater |
| Starfish | posted 18-Mar-2005 10:40am I eat popcorn, but only when someone else makes it. If I make it, I do it in the microwave. |
| LindaH | posted 18-Mar-2005 11:50am Don't they make jiffy pop anymore? You couldnt find the popcorn in the glass jar? We have a popcorn popper that's been in storage for years. We use the microwave, but I want to get around to cleaning the popcorn popper. |
| Iseult | posted 18-Mar-2005 11:57am I am unable to make popcorn with microwave. Last time I set off the fire alarm. In a hotel. 'Nuff said. |
| cerealkiller | posted 18-Mar-2005 12:04pm I rarely eat popcorn because it upsets my stomach, but only the microwave when I do. It's too much bother and mess the old way. |
| caviartaste | posted 18-Mar-2005 12:23pm Microwave |
| Enheduanna | posted 18-Mar-2005 12:39pm I have done the microwave method, when I had microwavable popcorn around. But it's been a long time since I did that. I don't make popcorn often, and I've had some of the regular kind around for years now (inherited from an old housemate). I used to use an air popper (also inherited from an old housemate), but it broke, so now I do it in a pan over the stove. It's really easy, and I think it tastes better than the microwave kind. |
| Matty | (reply to LindaH) posted 18-Mar-2005 12:41pm the selction of non-microwave popcorn was surprisingly small. |
| autumnlight | posted 18-Mar-2005 1:14pm I never buy popcorn to make at home - only at the cinema. |
| Updown | posted 18-Mar-2005 2:55pm Only the microwave. |
| RainingFeathers | posted 18-Mar-2005 3:07pm I never use the microwave to make popcorn, I always use an air popper. |
| Amanda | posted 18-Mar-2005 3:15pm I wouldn't know how to make popcorn without the microwave. Growing up, my mom would use an air popper, but I never paid attention to what she did. It's been years since I had popcorn other than microwave. Unless you count cinema popcorn, which is way to greasy. |
| Zang | posted 18-Mar-2005 3:22pm I don't like microwaves and I'm not a big fan of popcorn. I don't mind Poppycock. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 18-Mar-2005 4:16pm I don't eat popcorn as I don't digest corn products well. |
| LindaH | (reply to Matty) posted 18-Mar-2005 5:24pm Well, that's the times, I guess. Been to a music store lately? We may be seeing the end of the cassette tape pretty soon. I hope not though.
I think there will always be at least just a little non microwavable popcorn. |
| ihatespiders | posted 18-Mar-2005 5:41pm I dont eat it but I make it for family members, sometimes I use the microwave sometimes I use my grandmothers pressure cooker, sometimes I use the hot air popcorn popper. The traditional way is cheaper. But the microwave way is easier. |
| Maarten | posted 18-Mar-2005 5:51pm I don't like popcorn. |
| Matty | (reply to LindaH) posted 18-Mar-2005 6:58pm ...and maybe even a little casette tape and VHS tape. |
| LindaH | (reply to Matty) posted 18-Mar-2005 7:26pm Old technology is more likely to be phased out than a type of food.
I'm sure cassettes and VHS will be around a little while, though. |
| Matty | (reply to LindaH) posted 18-Mar-2005 7:28pm probably |
| Oscar | posted 19-Mar-2005 3:07am It doesn't really matter to me. I'll make popcorn on the stove, but my fiancee prefers that we buy the microwave kind. |
| Edaus | posted 19-Mar-2005 7:40pm Use home popcorn machine. |
| pandora | posted 21-Mar-2005 1:11pm Stovetop, always. Microwave popcorn is not something I would willingly eat. |
| srflorida | posted 21-Mar-2005 4:54pm At home I use the microwave. When we go camping we do it the old fashioned way. It actually tastes better that way! Too bad we are lazy or we would do that all the time!

| Wolfgang | (reply to Matty) posted 23-Mar-2005 2:59pm Traditional to who? |
| Matty | (reply to Wolfgang) posted 23-Mar-2005 7:27pm to whom?...your remember life before microwaves, you are old enough, right? |
| patarnone | posted 24-Mar-2005 8:43am Depends on timing and who's gonna eat it. If it's just me, I'll pop a bag of Blast-o-butter and go down to my room to do tv/cpu and munch. If it's an upstairs after the gig thing, Alice likes the traditional kernels in a pan, and remember the lid trip! Then we have real butter on it... she's a popcorn NUT, so we have a lot of popcorn popped on top of the stove. My rats love it,, so they always get some, too! |
| Wolfgang | (reply to Matty) posted 24-Mar-2005 9:44am you must be referring to Jiffy Pop. god, yes i remember the days we watched it pop right in front of our very eyes.it was like a miracle in some ways |
| Matty | (reply to Wolfgang) posted 24-Mar-2005 6:51pm you know, you're pretty dumb. |
| bcollins | posted 25-Mar-2005 9:27pm The only time I eat popcorn is when I go to the movies. As far as I know they don't use a microwave to make the popcorn. |
| southernyankee | (reply to Wolfgang) posted 31-Mar-2005 2:49pm I didn't realize that they had microwaves in prison cells. I thought they only got to eat prison food. |
| dab | posted 31-Mar-2005 10:13pm I don't care for microwave popcorn. Either a hot air popper or from the movie theater is better. |
| Wolfgang | (reply to southernyankee) posted 1-Apr-2005 11:42am young lady, i do not know where you got the idea that i am in prison. you can be rest assured i am happily baking in my own contemporary kitchen. are you of an age where you would be interested in baking/cooking...? i have some tips, you may get a man (or boy in your case) and stop this silly pitter/patter |
| ROCKMAN | posted 12-Apr-2005 7:11am Both. |
| freebird | posted 19-Apr-2005 6:45pm I am lazy. I only use the microwave now. |
| clare | posted 30-Jul-2006 2:37am I use a deep pan with a lid, a little oil and about a 1/3 cup popcorn. I think the butter-flavored microwave popcorn smells like cat pee when it's cooking. Yuck! I use the pan I popped the corn in to melt the butter which goes on top. |
| Melf | posted 25-Nov-2008 6:48pm Only in the microwave. I usually only buy at the cinema or otherwise ready made in a bag though. Oh Jesus, now I really want popcorn. |
| LindaH | posted 28-Nov-2008 8:30pm We have a popcorn popper. It shoots popcorn everywhere if you aren't paying attention. |
| LindaH | posted 28-Nov-2008 8:30pm I see I mentioned it in here, before I cleaned it. |
