Do you only use a microwave to prepare popcorn, or do you still use more traditional methods?

I have only ever used a microwave, but I've only made popcorn a handful of times in my life. I do see bags of popping corn in the supermarket though with instructins on how to pop it in a large saucepan. Probably a lot cheaper than buying the microwave bags (and salt-free), but I don't have a large saucepan.

I'm not sure what you mean by "traditional methods". At this point, microwaves seem pretty traditional to me. The only other 2 ways I know to make popcorn at home are hot air popper appliances and jiffy-pop (over the stove, tin-foil expanding, thingamabob). Neither of these seem "traditional" to me.

Always the stove top. The trick is to not put the lid on too tightly because the steam will make your popcorn wetish and heavy. And keep it moving or it burns. MMMMMmmmmmmm.

I don't much like microwave popcorn. It's usually way too greasy. I usually air pop popcorn - but usually means less than once a year; we hardly ever eat popcorn at home.

I wouldn't eat popcorn unless I was at the cinema, but even then it's a rarity.

Don't they make jiffy pop anymore? You couldnt find the popcorn in the glass jar? We have a popcorn popper that's been in storage for years. We use the microwave, but I want to get around to cleaning the popcorn popper.

I am unable to make popcorn with microwave. Last time I set off the fire alarm. In a hotel. 'Nuff said.

I rarely eat popcorn because it upsets my stomach, but only the microwave when I do. It's too much bother and mess the old way.

I have done the microwave method, when I had microwavable popcorn around. But it's been a long time since I did that. I don't make popcorn often, and I've had some of the regular kind around for years now (inherited from an old housemate). I used to use an air popper (also inherited from an old housemate), but it broke, so now I do it in a pan over the stove. It's really easy, and I think it tastes better than the microwave kind.

I wouldn't know how to make popcorn without the microwave. Growing up, my mom would use an air popper, but I never paid attention to what she did. It's been years since I had popcorn other than microwave. Unless you count cinema popcorn, which is way to greasy.

I think there will always be at least just a little non microwavable popcorn.

I dont eat it but I make it for family members, sometimes I use the microwave sometimes I use my grandmothers pressure cooker, sometimes I use the hot air popcorn popper. The traditional way is cheaper. But the microwave way is easier.

Old technology is more likely to be phased out than a type of food.

It doesn't really matter to me. I'll make popcorn on the stove, but my fiancee prefers that we buy the microwave kind.

Use home popcorn machine.

Stovetop, always. Microwave popcorn is not something I would willingly eat.

At home I use the microwave. When we go camping we do it the old fashioned way. It actually tastes better that way! Too bad we are lazy or we would do that all the time!

Depends on timing and who's gonna eat it. If it's just me, I'll pop a bag of Blast-o-butter and go down to my room to do tv/cpu and munch. If it's an upstairs after the gig thing, Alice likes the traditional kernels in a pan, and remember the lid trip! Then we have real butter on it... she's a popcorn NUT, so we have a lot of popcorn popped on top of the stove. My rats love it,, so they always get some, too!

you must be referring to Jiffy Pop. god, yes i remember the days we watched it pop right in front of our very eyes.it was like a miracle in some ways

The only time I eat popcorn is when I go to the movies. As far as I know they don't use a microwave to make the popcorn.

I didn't realize that they had microwaves in prison cells. I thought they only got to eat prison food.

I don't care for microwave popcorn. Either a hot air popper or from the movie theater is better.

young lady, i do not know where you got the idea that i am in prison. you can be rest assured i am happily baking in my own contemporary kitchen. are you of an age where you would be interested in baking/cooking...? i have some tips, you may get a man (or boy in your case) and stop this silly pitter/patter

I am lazy. I only use the microwave now.

I use a deep pan with a lid, a little oil and about a 1/3 cup popcorn. I think the butter-flavored microwave popcorn smells like cat pee when it's cooking. Yuck! I use the pan I popped the corn in to melt the butter which goes on top.

Only in the microwave. I usually only buy at the cinema or otherwise ready made in a bag though. Oh Jesus, now I really want popcorn.

We have a popcorn popper. It shoots popcorn everywhere if you aren't paying attention.
