When did you last write an essay?

More than a year ago. My last English class was like 3 years ago, haven't written an essay since, not even in any other classes taken since then.

I'm contemplating one arguing that we have national id cards and internal passports in the US today and speculating on the coming of internal visas (i.e. travel papers).

That's hard to say; I haven't written a university-style essay in a couple of years. However, my current position is that of an analyst, so I do expository writing as a regular part of my job duties.

I'm meant to be writing one now

I'm going to include "dissertation" within the category of "essay" and say "I'm meant to be writing one now." I worked on it yesterday, and I will work on it more today, but I haven't gotten started on work yet today.
The last essay I wrote and actually finished was a short personal statement for a fellowship application in January. If that doesn't count, then I guess the last thing was the paper I gave in November.

Probably back in 1974 for my history of architecture class.

A more immediately disturbing one for me is that California is considering installing GPS positioning in all vehicles and charging you tax at the pump by the amount of miles you drive. Another possibility is to automatically give you speeding tickets since they would be able to monitor speed also. You could also come up with more serious implications, like they would know where you were at any time. Would be hard to fake an alibi. Johnny Law sez, "Mr. Cerealkiller, where were you on the evening of March 5th, 2005 between the hours of 11pm and midnight? Your vehicle sez you were at mile point 22.725 on Highway 33, exactly where the nude body of a young girl was found." How you gonna argue with that? "Well, officer, someone must have stolen my car and then returned it to my driveway." Sure... Good luck.

That's a lot of money, though. What would think of imposing Federal standards for identity verification of State driver's licenses.

7-9 pages due in April, and another one of unknown length (as of nom) due in 8 days.

Probably back in high school so it would be waaay more than a year ago. I graduated in 1970.

I'm supposedly working on one now...

I had two due in last Wednesday and one due in last Thursday - I was working on all of them pretty intensively last week. I did ddata handling questions for my tutorial this morning and a presentation this afternoon, or I would have written a couple more recently.

We generally get set one or two 2000-3000 word essays a week during term-time.

Due in April? You get nice long gaps between essays then!

I'm sure more than a year ago... but I've written plenty of Policies and Procedures for work...

I try to dodge writing one unless it's inevitable. I should be writing one for my Egyptian and Mesopotamian art class, but I'm too lazy to, and it's not required, it's just a bonus (but if you have an extra essay on ziggurat that you're willing to give me, I'll take it). Actually I don't have to write any essays this semester. The last one I did was due on December 16th.

So did you get into the fellowship?

no, that's just 2 differerent courses, I completed another one prematurely. As4 as I can tell so far here's the run down since January 11 (first day of the semester)

random 1 pg writin g assignments - approx 48 (3 per week)

For school, it's been years! I guess some of the things I write online and in my journal could be considered essays, in which it hasn't been long at all.

I'm meant to be writing one right now. And I even have a choice as to which one! I have one due on John Wyclif, or the role of the male in the witch hunts in early modern europe! Or there's an assignment on the American West that I havent even looked at yet - when's that in for again? Oh yeah, 6 days.

I started one yesterday, I should be working on it right now but I'm taking a break. It's about Baudelaire's concept of time with reference to two of his poems.
I'm also supposed to be writing one about a news story that isn't covered enough, but I don't have any ideas for that yet. Any suggestions???

Double on all except for the single page assignments, as they are online journal entries, so there's no real formatting with the program that the school uses

Oh well, then, no sympathy at all from me! I write 3-4 sides single spaced once or even twice a week. Last week I wrote three!

I was assigned one on Wednesday to write over the weekend.

It's going to be a comparison and contrast. It's between an essay I read on a murder that occured with 38 people who were witness to it, and didn't call the police. I'm comparing that non-fiction with an incident that occured recently, around where I live. It was when a man walked into a pizza shop and brutally assaulted another man for no apparent reason. There were at least 8 onlookers who did nothing about it and didn't come to the victim's defense.

last time I worked on one it was either a grad level philosophy paper (boy I wont take that crap again) and some English paper. I forgot what the subject matter was though. It was either on "All my Sons" or "Man and Superman". All I remember is that I was being a huge smartass on it and made the essay as either offensive or made ridiculous comments on them as humanly possible and see just how much I could get away with. I also remember that most of these times, the professor gave us like a whole week or even two weeks in some cases to complete the whole thing and every time for some unexplained reason I waited till the night before to even start on it. Somehow I ended up geting a good grade on all my essays and on one she even put a remark that it was the best paper in the whole class. Go figure.

You could argue that I never have.

Not being in school, I have no reason to write an essay per sey... but being a writer, I call some of my emails essays. Some call them lectures.

jeeze Matty, I just made a note to myself to create a survey about that very thing. I thought of a fingerprint... they have those key-pad like things that will scan and verify ... might really help stop ID theft

Saturday afternoon - the third essay of a three hour exam. "Why is measles still a problem?" I messed it up. But there is a chance that it could be the last essay that I ever write, so I can't complain.

The last essay you ever write? Seems unlikely though from now on, perhaps they'll be called articles and published only in the most prestigious journals.

The last essay that I ever write under exam conditions anyway. There is a slim chance that I may take professional qualifications one day (medical/nursing degree) but other than that...no PhD exams
