Some of these I've seen because I was specifically looking for them. On our honeymoon, my wife and I were in a Canadian park (Banff/Jasper), we made several trips just to look for various animals. I even have some pictures of them. We saw bald eagles, a black bear, a pair of Moose, elk everywhere, and bighorn sheep.

I've also seen bison, Dall sheep, lots of rodents (beavers, woodchucks, mice, rats, raccoons - yeah they're not officially rodents but you try cleaning up after they've gotten into the garbage, etc.), whales, birds, insects and reptiles.

I have actually seen wild house-cat sized cats. At Umass Amherst, there was (and may still be), a shack that a person could crawl under. If you did then you would see about a hundred cats without owners hanging around. I suspect they lived off the kindness of humans who would give them food but mostly by chasing mice in the nearby woods. Rumor has it that they are the offspring of house cats who have been abandoned by students. If you were *very* still and very patient, the cats might approach you.

Been up close to a skunk when it was ready to spritz the family dog. Dunno how I got out of that one unscathed.
Also, for the long-legged bird category, I had a blue heron nearly land on me once when I was relaxing in the pool. Crap, those suckers are _big_.

Coons. Wild boars. Many bird species, the most interesting of which are flamingos, condors, parrots, hawks, and wild turkeys.

Ooh! Something just reminded me. I forgot "sea otter"! It was a truly rapturous experience - I was wading in the Pacific in high wind and moderately heavy surf, and there it was just a few yards away, looking right at me! * smile *

I put armadillo as an option because in ohio, most of the dead animals you see on the road are opossums... it was odd to me that when I went down south, the opossums were replaced by armadillos.

I never saw an armadillo till I went to Florida and I was very excited about it. Really no opossums?
