Sing live terribly, although it's like the lesser of two evils. First, I don't go to see artists because of the show they will put on where lip-synching is mostly a requirement but because I want to listen to hear the music. But then if they sing terribly... alas...

I'd be terribly disappointed and pissed off either way

I wouldn't bother with either - I hate crowds! Too many people and not enough manners...

Both would suck big time of course and reasons not to go to that group or singer anymore.

I wanna hear your real voice, as good as it can be. If you can't do it w/o studio help, that tells me something.

Ashley Simpson should be thrown in jail along side Martha Stewart and Michael Jackson.

I would prefer that they do a good live show. If they're not going to do that then they shouldn't be touring.

neither. If a preformer can't preform I would prefer they did not.

i would say sing live terribly because then at least we know that they arent using other bands or artists songs and getting rich by it.

Sing live terribly, but I haven't been to a live concert in ages. I would go see Gal Costa (Brazilian diva) if she came here again but SHE does not sing live terribly! And I would go see Portuguese fadistas (fado singers) and rancho folcloricos if they were held close enough to where I live. I used to go to rock concerts and I thought most of them did NOT sing well live -- but I liked them for their overall sound ANYway so back then it did not matter as much, i.e., Stones, Grateful Dead.

Lip-sync. If I have paid to hear them sing, chances are I'm expecting to like what I hear. I'd much rather it be pleasant to hear than "more authentic."

People who can't sing live shouldn't pretend to. If someone can't sing well enough to sing live, then they shouldn't be doing concerts at all.

I don't know, it's a tough situation. I mean, let's say the artist is sick. They could cancel the performance, lip-synch, or sing really badly. Either way, I would be disappointed.

If they don't sing well live then they don't deserve to be up there at all. Period. What are they doing with any celebrity if they don't have any talent? I hate Hollywood creations. I would much rather go hear someone with LOADS of talent in a smoky bar in my own hometown than some Hollywood propaganda bullcrap being shoved down the pop culture collective's throat.

If it is a celebrity singing terribly. I like to see "icons" being "human." If I don't know them, or anything about them, and they are going to sing terribly then I'll leave so it doesn't matter.

Lip synch is cool. I don't give a crap about live improvising anyway. I want songs to sound as close as possible to the real thing and not alot of jamming, talking, off-key stuff.

If I sing terribly, I would naturally feel more comfortable lip-synching.

It would depend. Honestly, as weird as it sounds, if the shows involves a lot of dancing, entertainment, etc., then I wouldn't mind if they were to lip-sync. I'm pretty sure most of the singers I've seen in concert have done it at one time or another, but I didn't care, because the show was fun and I was just so excited to see them. * smile *

...if the "artist" can't really sing, not only would I not go to thier show,
I believe they should not be on stage.
This is why we have a plastic superficial culture.

You make a really good point about it being exciting to see them in person when they put on a good show, and I suppose if it was someone who does a lot of dance numbers, like Madonna or Janet Jackson, I wouldn't feel too cheated to find out that they lip synched to some of the songs. But I think it would be dishonest to call the show a concert if they lip synch the whole thing.
Sahndya
(reply to SueBee) posted 11-Jan-2005 12:23pm
Yes, that's absolutely true. During the slower songs, they should be able to sing live. Although it would be a real letdown if they were to sing live terribly...
