What's your favorite animal at the zoo?

It's a toss up between polar bears and kangaroos

The Aquarium building.

Birds. Particularly waterfowl in the pond. They seem more free than the other animals, or at least less bothered by captivity. Also sometimes you see some wild waterfowl passing through.

I like the otters, but close behind them are the tigers.

i forgot otters, they're awesome too! a lot like ferrets, fresh water ferrets, hmmm...

Big cats. Leopards, cheetahs and panthers are the most beautiful, sexiest things ever, ever, ever.

Giraffes!

It depends on the individuals, really. At the last zoo I visited, the siamangs were my favorite, because they were doing some very cool acrobatics that were fun to watch.

Phi: The coolest thing about the giraffes is their tongues. Such a weird shade of blue!

Their tongues are blue so they wont get sun-burned.

The Kangaroo is my favourite animal outside of the zoo. Us Aussies have them hopping down our streets ;)

I just like seeing the animals up close.

What amazed the first time I saw a giraffe was their spots. The colors were so well defined. Tigers too.

you can take a crosstown bus if it's raining or it's cold, and the animals will love it if you do... you know, I've never been to that particular zoo.

I have a certain fondness for zoo songs. Their's another by "The Sixths" called "San Diego Zoo" which is also light-hearted.
Phi, I assume Simon and Garfunkel were singing about the Bronz Zoo. My wife and I went there serveral years ago. We went to the San Diego Zoo just last year actually. Both were quite good.

I gravitate towards the wolves and foxes... no surprise to those who know me...

I love cats. They're so mysterious and beautiful. I think they're absolutely gorgeous. They're really graceful, too. Good survey. :)

I think it really depends on the zoo and the environments the animals are in. The weather and time of day can make a big difference in whether or not they are active, too. I've enjoyed so many different animals on different trips to different zoos, I really can't choose a favorite.

for me, of course, is the big cats. Seconding runner up is the primates.

I should add sea-lions and dolphins. Dolphins have two kinds of vision: regular eyes, and their sonar; if their chirping can mimic or fabricate what they hear as sonar, it would mean they are capable of communicating 3-dimensional pictures to each other. Most impressive.

I like most of the animals in the zoo, but the hippos are the coolest. Especially when you can see them in the water...it's a big difference from their movement on land.

I love the aquariums...i can stand for hours just watching the fishies swim by

They don't have them at many zoos (maybe only one?) but I love the koalas.

I also really like the orangatangs (sp?). They do neat tricks. And aquariums are great, too...so peaceful.

Wicksy: Melbourne, and I am a bit of a social recluse, so I'm not really the one to ask about the night life :) From what I've heard but rarely seen it's thriving ;)
