| LindaH | posted 11-Dec-2004 5:16pm NO!! I don't care at all what's popular or what the crowd is doing. |
| bill | posted 11-Dec-2004 6:21pm Built in to this phenomena is that people usually say "no" to this question. |
| Iseult | posted 11-Dec-2004 7:55pm Like it's possible not to. |
| cerealkiller | posted 11-Dec-2004 8:21pm It depends. I prefer not to "stand out" in public so I tend to conform with regard to dress, behavior, etc. I dont' carry it to the extreme the younger people do by needing to wear certain brands. I buy nice clothes but generic store brands are cool for me.
I also conform to the uniformity of the neighborhood. I've got a few Mexican families on my street who have painted their homes awful blue and flamingo colors. Ruins the look. |

| LindaH | (reply to bill) posted 11-Dec-2004 8:59pm Doing something that happens to coincide with what the majority does isn't the same thing as 'going along with the majority' |
| LindaH | (reply to Iseult) posted 11-Dec-2004 9:01pm Of course it's possible. |
| bill | (reply to LindaH) posted 11-Dec-2004 9:38pm > Doing something that happens to coincide with what the majority does
> isn't the same thing as 'going along with the majority' Is it possible to know the difference? |
| LindaH | (reply to bill) posted 11-Dec-2004 9:48pm It is for me. Let me give you an example: I have clothes that are nothing like what most people wear. I also have clothes that are pretty typical. When I wear my typical clothes, I'm not "going along with the majority," I am wearing something I like, without regard to whether or not other people wear it. Why would I have some typical clothes and some unusual clothes? It's not because some days I'm in the mood to follow the crowd and other days I'm not. It's because I wear what I like. |

| they | posted 11-Dec-2004 11:43pm No.. but that doesn't mean I advertise my differences either..
For instance, there are a lot of people at work who complain to the sups during meetings and things about the way that certain things are calculated.. these people feel very strongly about their positions and can get very loud. I disagree with them.. For the most part, I've been doing the job longer.. and I agree with the way things are done and have said this directly to the sups in one-on-one conversations but I keep my mouth shut when things get heated with my peers. |
| Iseult | (reply to LindaH) posted 11-Dec-2004 11:55pm Oh really? How? And who? |
| LindaH | posted 12-Dec-2004 1:49am Anyone who does what they want, without regard to whether anyone else is doing it or not. Just because you do something that happens to also be what other people are doing, that doesn't mean you are doing it *because* that's what other people are doing. |
| thevelvetcure | posted 12-Dec-2004 2:18am If I agree with the majority of course, like this past election I voted Democratic instead of an independent party like the 2000 election. I learned my lesson, and that's why I went with the majority, no not Bu$h
If I disagree with the majority, then no, I won't go along for the ride. |
| BionicLips | posted 12-Dec-2004 6:51am depends on what the mass wants. if they want to cut taxes - yes. if they want to lynch people - no |
| ROCKMAN | posted 12-Dec-2004 10:27am It just depends, but no I don't have too. |
| autumnlight | posted 12-Dec-2004 1:07pm It depends if I agree with the masses. I won't do something because it's popular, but then that isn't a reason to reject it either. |
| autumnlight | (reply to LindaH) posted 12-Dec-2004 1:08pm I agree. I feel exactly the same! |
| Irene007 | posted 12-Dec-2004 1:46pm It depends because I don't like to "rock the boat" for trivial things. |
| Irene007 | (reply to bill) posted 12-Dec-2004 1:47pm > Built in to this phenomena is that people usually say "no" to this

| caviartaste | posted 12-Dec-2004 9:15pm this survey made me think of this really great T-shirt that my brother-in-law has...It's a simple black shirt with a logo that says "Obey the Propaganda" and it's my favorite shirt that he has! (he's the one in the devil mask in the photo album from my user page)
.........sure wish he'd give me that shirt! |
| caviartaste | (reply to LindaH) posted 12-Dec-2004 9:19pm I think the masses agree with you joalis...at least on this survey. I know I do! Thanks for explaining it so well! |

| columbia | posted 12-Dec-2004 9:52pm It depends on the situation... |
| kcthedog | posted 12-Dec-2004 10:43pm No, I have observed that most mob situations are instigated by one or two people. Ether with the intention of starting a riot or they have selfish purposes for doing so. It has been proven that people are easily stirred up and are easily influenced. Jim Morrison used to do it for fun at concerts. So I am very leery of groups of people with agendas. |
| southernyankee | posted 12-Dec-2004 11:37pm well yeah, pretty much. Lets see here, I drive on the right side of the road (check), take a shower every day (check), never murdered anyone (check), watch non-independant tv networks, on a television screen that follows all FCC specs (check and check), sleep during nighttime (check), and wear blue jeans and t-shirts (check).
but I deviate a bit, for instance I break a few rules and regulations here and there, I constantly jaywalk, and I think outside the box whenever I write essays. |
| southernyankee | (reply to bill) posted 12-Dec-2004 11:41pm I voted "it depends"
do I get a constalaltion prize? |
| joeyindc | posted 13-Dec-2004 4:34am I usually don't seem to agree with the masses but I have noticed lately that the tyranny isn't coming from the masses as much as the tyranny of the minorities are becoming the rule of law in America these days. The masses are being dictated to by special interests groups and advocates for minority groups such as racial, sexual orientation, and religious groups. If the masses don't agree with the politics of any of these groups they are attacked as bigots, racists, or xenophobes, and intolerant. |

| RaveDevil | posted 27-Dec-2004 10:22am No. Always represent the beliefs of the individual, never the masses. Unless of course you truly believe what the masses do. But if not , don't give in. |
