It's hard to pick one and I haven't ran into one recently, but here are a few that have moved me: "Amazing Grace", "Like Her" by Mandalay, "Gorecki" by Lamb, "Destiny" by Zero Seven, "Heirloom" by Björk,

I dont know that I could class these like this but:

Nessun Dorma Luciano Pavarotti ( PS I do not like opera.... But this one sticks)
Candle in the wind Elton John (when he sang it at Princess Diana's Funeral)

Its so hard to say goodbye Boyz 2 Men (Which they seem to play at alot of Black peoples funeral...... Think Lethal Weapon III)

I have several favorites:
Don McLean is one of my favorite songwriters, as is Carol King
The first is Vincent:
Starry starry night, paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer's day with eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills, sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills, in colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand what you tried to say to me
How you suffered for you sanity How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they did not know how, perhaps they'll listen now

Starry starry night, flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue
Colors changing hue, morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand

For they could not love you, but still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight, on that starry starry night
You took your life as lovers often do,
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you

Starry, starry night, portraits hung in empty halls
Frameless heads on nameless walls with eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met, the ragged man in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose, lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me
How you suffered for you sanity How you tried to set them free
They would not listen they're not listening still
Perhaps they never will.

__

The next is Tapestry, by Carol King:
My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue
An everlasting vision of the everchanging view
A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold
A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold

Once amid the soft silver sadness in the sky
There came a man of fortune, a drifter passing by
He wore a torn and tattered cloth around his leathered hide
And a coat of many colours, yellow-green on either side

He move with some uncertainty, as if he didn't know
Just what he was there for, or where he ought to go
Once he reached for something golden hanging from a tree
And his hand come down empty

Soon within my tapestry along the rutted road
He sat down on a river rock and turned into a toad
It seemed that he had fallen into someone's wicked spell
And I wept to see him suffer, though I didn't know him well

As I watched in sorrow, there suddenly appeared
A figure gray and ghostly beneath a flowing beard
In times of deepest darkness, I've seen him dressed in black
Now my tapestry's unravelling; he's come to take me back.

---------------
Don McLean also wrote a song called Tapestry - also equally beautiful - but terribly different.
I also really love Tori Amos lyrics, and more recently Joni Mitchell - wow.

Yeah, I haven't done the SC thing in ages. I thought it would be cool to check it out again and see who's still here. Still a great site. I remember spending so much time playing around here, back when I made more spare time for myself. I'm surprised to see that my account is still active! How have you been?

There are a few. But honestly, I have to say Christina Aguilera's "beautiful" is something I absolutely love. It always lifts my mood.

I do like other music though, besides pop.

Rèsumè... by Sopor Aeternus

Over there that little mountain rises,
while some others dissolve into a plain.
Time redefines itself
and falls in sadness grain by grain...

"Time, my dear, heals all the wounds",
the two-tongued echoes seem to say.
But nothing, nothing changes here,
this pain remains and will not go away.

Lament:
"I went weak, as I grew old,
and time itself has made me slow...-
and as I close my eyes in sadness
a thousand seasons come and go..."

Mighty enough to cover all
and also cruel enough to reveal,
but all the wounds and scars he carries
neither force nor kiss can ever heal.

No, time heals nothing, nothing, nothing...-
spitefully turns away and laughs.
Leaves you half-broken and in defiance
is only added another scar...

Call it "blind" how he is writhing,
counting hours, centuries...-
the pain it grows and glows in tides,
unable to vanish, unwilling to cease...

No, time healnothing, nothing, nothing...-
pushes 'till we're diving into different flesh.
Time heals nothing, nothing, nothing
petrified within some unnameable shame...

Lament:
"Time's fingers claw, I am losing hold,
there is no hope for me on earth.
Time either still or maybe rushing...-
in any case it will turn out worse...-

Time is fleeting, time stands still,
it stops for no-one and we're trapped within,
and though he may dream of the light,
he is falling back (in)to the left-hand side...

Rèsumè:
"How I wish that I was dead
and rest in final peace...-
but even the luxury of death
can't cure the wounds time cannot heal..."

Mai Yamane, "Gotta Knock a Little Harder".
From the cowboy bebop soundtrack.

Happiness is just a word to me
And it might have meant a thing or two
If I'd known the difference

Emptiness, a lonely parody
And my life, another smokin' gun
A sign of my indifference

Always keepin' safe inside
Where no one ever had a chance
To penetrate a break in

Let me tell you some have tried
But I would slam the door so tight
That they could never get in

Kept my cool under a lock and key
And I never shed a tear
Another sign of my condition

Fear of love or bitter vanity
That kept me on the run
The main events of my confession

I kept a chain upon my door
That would shake the shame of Cain
Into a blind submission

The burning ghost without a name
Was still calling all the same
But I just wouldn't listen

The longer I'd stall
The further I'd crawl
The further I'd crawl
The harder I'd fall
I was crawlin' into the fire

The more that I saw
The further I'd fall
The further I'd fall
The lower I'd crawl
I kept fallin' into the fire
Into the fire
Into the fire

Suddenly it occurred to me
The reason for the run and hide
Had totaled my existence

Everything left on the other side
Could never be much worse than this
But could I go the distance

I faced the door and all my shame
Tearin' off each piece of chain
Until they all were broken

But no matter how I tried
The other side was locked so tight
That door it wouldn't open

Gave it all that I got
And started to knock
Shouted for someone
To open the lock
I just gotta get through the door

And the more that I knocked
The hotter I got
The hotter I got
The harder I'd knock
I just gotta break through the door

Gotta knock a little harder
Gotta knock a little harder
Gotta knock a little harder
Break through the door

There are probably a lot of them, but right now, the one song that comes to mind is "The Girl of My Best Friend" by Elvis Presley; because that song describes how I feel when I see some of my friends with their beautiful girlfriends--and of course, it's a beautiful song to listen to. * smile *
