| Biggles | (reply to bill) posted 23-Nov-2004 9:59am Who contacts you to complain, the individuals, or the companies they have email accounts with? |

| dab | posted 23-Nov-2004 10:26am I've been told that my systems have been used to send spam. Problem is they are reporting on an IP address range that I haven't been connected with for at least seven years. |

| bill | (reply to Biggles) posted 23-Nov-2004 10:28am It's not that I get contacted, it's that emails my sites send get tagged as SPAM and are never received. Sometimes, they bounce back to me, other times the user complains they never got it. What happens is out of my control for the most part, but my users complain to me. It's worse on my other site (where users trade with each other). Having a working email is critical, so if I get a bounce, I de-activate their account until they get their email working. |

A few times, I've gone through the trouble of contacting the ISP to make sure they stop tagging my site's email as SPAM... and that has fixed the problem... I did it with MSN/hotmail and AOL, that I recall. For smaller ISPs, I generally don't bother... I make the user fix it. |
| Biggles | (reply to bill) posted 23-Nov-2004 10:32am Ah I see. Annoying! |
| caviartaste | posted 23-Nov-2004 1:05pm Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!
No. Never sent that. |
| they | posted 23-Nov-2004 1:16pm No, I am not a spammer.
I even blocked my own aunt's emails because she was sending too much GOD SPAM. |
| Jemmy | posted 23-Nov-2004 3:22pm No. I didn't even know I was capable of sending it. |

Is it easier to contact the ISPs directly? |

| leahdoll | posted 23-Nov-2004 7:03pm Yes, but only becuase my friend can be a real be-otch and she doesn't want ANY forwards sent to her work e-mail (although it is OK for her to send them) and she doesn't have a personal e-mail addy either. |
| juliw | posted 23-Nov-2004 7:30pm nope |
| Violet | posted 24-Nov-2004 2:03am Not personally accused, but there are some email services that won't accept most emails from Hotmail or Yahoo. My email bounces and the message says that too many messages have been sent from that address and that my email has been flagged as spam. This is only with email services with very stringent spam filtering. |

| moviesnob | posted 6-Jan-2005 8:21am Yes, when I first got into the Internet on AOL. I forget what for, but something said I had to send an invite or something to a certain number of people, so I just ripped some e-mails off AOL message boards. Got myself reported for that one. |
