| dab | (reply to Jemmy) posted 23-Nov-2004 4:32pm Yes but I don't understand it. I certainly don't understand what string theory has to do with gravity though I've heard that they're connected somehow. After all, it's presented as a theory of everything and the main point of such theories is to connect quantum theory with gravity.
If I can say this without sounding insulting, which I probably can't, I'm surprised that the string theory suggestion came from you. I would not have guessed that you were interested in such things. Pomeranian is where I expected suggestions from. In fact, he once gave me a fantastic book on quantum theory called What is Quantum Mechanics. It was very readable and the math was at just the right level. Well, it could have gone a little further but it was very good. |

| Jemmy | (reply to dab) posted 23-Nov-2004 10:23pm Yeah, I don't understand it either. It's crazy confusing, I watched a documentary on it and came out with like, an idea of what it is, but not really.
I'm not insulted, I actually hate science and physics and such. But I like philosophy, and it reminds me of that. And my boyfriend likes theories, so he introduced me to the concept. |

| Hans | (reply to Iseult) posted 24-Nov-2004 6:22pm You lucky one! In my ears, Russian is absolutely beautiful (Polish not, although the Polish grammar is most interesting). By the way, we have one thing in common: Latin was my favourite subject at school (no. 1 = Tacitus (Is "Slavonic" the wrong term? My (one language) English dictionary does not have the word "Slavic" but "Slavonic" instead. It says "adj. of the Slavs or their languages". ) |
| Iseult | (reply to Hans) posted 24-Nov-2004 6:57pm How much Latin do you know? I love it, I want to be fluent in it one day.
I dunno whether Slavic or Slavonic is correct. I'd say that you are probably right and that Slavic refers more to the original tribe of the Slavs. |

| davethebrave371 | posted 28-Nov-2004 2:51pm Everything. Literally. But if I had to choose one thing...truth. I'd like to learn more about truth. Less abstract? Hmmm...the 24/7 of someone's life, from birth to death. I don't know who, it wouldn't matter really. Just anyone. |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 28-Nov-2004 5:19pm Men! I want to learn more about them , and why they are , the way they are? why some men can be so polite and treat me like a lady, and other men can be so mean and selfish and cruel, or have a very bad temper. Some men are so darn! cute and very very handsome, while others can bore me to death, and are not so polite? |
| JessicaWoman99 | posted 28-Nov-2004 5:29pm Also' I find men to be very interesting creatures of habit. Why I ask myself, do men and boys do death defying stunts is way beyond me? I cannot understand them why they risk their lives? I have had these little boys getting in front of my car as I was driving down the road and they will play chicken with a 3,000 pound automobile no care in this world about their life? Yes boys and men are the very same creatures in every respect. |
| Iseult | (reply to Fomo) posted 28-Nov-2004 11:16pm Now, when you say men, you mean just 'males', right? |
| JessicaWoman99 | (reply to Iseult) posted 29-Nov-2004 10:39pm Males of course? who else would I be talking about here. Men and boys go along with males, and they are very interesting indeed! do you know why they risk their lives for something so foolish and dumb? they throw away everything, thrill seekers all males. And men have lots and lots of courage along with boys. Nothing seems to scare them at all? And some men I have known in my life are big cry babies, or some males have a difficult time trying to figure out something, while others are smart as a whip like Albert Einstein did I get this name spelled right? and men love to beat up on each other. Plus they love to pick on us girls and tease us? |

| Biggles | posted 1-Jun-2005 5:17am I've been reading a lot about Christianity lately as one of my best friends recently converted (she was raised a Christian and believed but was not born again). She is being baptised in a couple of weeks. I feel like I have accompanied her on part of her journey towards this, but our paths really diverge here because the more I read the less I believe but the more she reads the more she believes. I read "balanced and fair" books she lends me that helped to convince her and I realise they are blatant propaganda. She listens to my criticisms and knows in her heart that it's because I haven't accepted God's gift. I found it intensely hurtful at one time that she could be happy to worship a God who she believes will leave me to be subject to incredible torture for all of eternity. I still can't quite reconcile that with the love that I know that she has for me. But I do accept that she loves me despite that, and I imagine that's the way she can rationalise her beliefs too... |
