| Biggles | posted 21-Oct-2004 2:54pm I would consider it. I don't know if I would do it though - maybe after I'd had my own children. |
| Enheduanna | posted 21-Oct-2004 3:43pm I'd consider it. I don't know if I'd actually do it, though. The money's great, but they require you to take a lot of hormones. And they probably wouldn't accept me as a donor anyway. |
| Jody | posted 21-Oct-2004 3:49pm Nah. My genes are too blighted with physical conditions that, by themselves, are non-lethal - but taken together are a giant pain in the butt. |
| cerealkiller | posted 21-Oct-2004 4:15pm They usually don't take anyone over 40, and they wouldn't want my genetic history. |
| moonstone | posted 21-Oct-2004 4:28pm yes, i would consider it... |
| pandora | posted 21-Oct-2004 4:32pm I would consider it, but I don't know yet if I would actually go through with it. Being adopted, I know what it's like to have lots of unknown relatives, but the fact that I have fertility problems of my own would make me hesitant, even if my eggs were able to be donated. |
| TheDoctor | posted 21-Oct-2004 4:38pm I guess. |
| bill | posted 21-Oct-2004 5:08pm I have no desire to propagate my genes. |
| reevee | posted 21-Oct-2004 5:40pm This is a hard question to answer for me. I would love to donate my ovum, if they pass muster. My only concern would be ensuring that the child that was created was in a loving, nurturing home. I couldn't bear to discover that one of my children was neglected or abused in any way...I grew up next door to a couple that spent thousands of dollars trying to have a child. They finally decided to adopt. They received this beautiful little boy. Soon after that, the couple divorced, "mom" retained custody but never really cared for him. This beautiful little boy grew up in a filthy home with a scatter-brained mother. (My parents reported her to the State and she was made to clean up her home but it didn't last and the State never really cared..) He died when he was only 17 of a drug overdose. To this day, I wonder about his real parents and whether or not they know how his life was. |
| ASexyBabe | posted 21-Oct-2004 6:25pm no but I might sell them some. |
| juliw | posted 21-Oct-2004 6:32pm Probably not. I think there so many children already here that desperately need someone to adopt them. |
| juliw | (reply to reevee) posted 21-Oct-2004 6:34pm How incredibly sad! That child did NOT ask to be here!! |
| gambler | posted 21-Oct-2004 6:44pm yea why not, though why they would want my sperm is beyond me...... |
| reevee | (reply to juliw) posted 21-Oct-2004 6:45pm I know. It's always amazed me that people have to get a license for their dog and have a license to drive, fish, hunt etc. but anyone can have a child... |
| they | posted 21-Oct-2004 7:48pm No way. |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 21-Oct-2004 8:03pm No, for two reasons. My eggs are probably too old (I'm 52) and I also have a genetic disorder carried by the mother in my family. My sister's second child, Bryan was born with it and died when he was 13 months old. It's a recessive gene, but I wouldn't want to risk passing it on to anyone. It's a rare disorder called x-linked hydrocephelous and there is no way to test for it in utero because of it's rarity. |
| Zang | posted 21-Oct-2004 8:36pm Only long enough to recognise that there wouldn't be any good reason for me to do it and plenty of good reasons not to. |
| spidertea | posted 21-Oct-2004 9:52pm I'd consider it for about two seconds, then I'd say no.
|
| Glassa | posted 21-Oct-2004 10:14pm Yes, I would.
I actually gave this serious thought a few years ago. There was an article in the paper for this very thing. I asked my husband if he would support me if I donated an egg to a couple who were wanting a baby. He told me absolutely not, because there would be too many emotional attachments a few years down the road. I'd still consider it though. If someone wanted a baby badly enough and I knew they were good people, I'd donate an egg, as long as I couldn't be around to watch my child grow up. |
| kirst | posted 21-Oct-2004 10:48pm no |
| dab | posted 21-Oct-2004 11:46pm How can I reject it unless I consider it first? |
| ihatespiders | posted 22-Oct-2004 12:04am No my genetic material is not good enough. |
| Iseult | posted 22-Oct-2004 12:47am How much will they pay? |
| Maarten | posted 22-Oct-2004 4:04am |
| reevee | (reply to Maarten) posted 22-Oct-2004 6:31am I'm assuming this is your daughter Laura. She's adorable! She must take after her mom. |
| iamdonte | posted 22-Oct-2004 7:29am Yes |
| justjulie | (reply to reevee) posted 22-Oct-2004 7:39am i totally |
| Maarten | (reply to reevee) posted 22-Oct-2004 7:54am Yes, her mother is an international supermodel. |
| EyesOfCharisma | posted 22-Oct-2004 3:42pm I would sell my eggs, I don't know about donating though.. |

| BerrieGrrl | (reply to Maarten) posted 23-Oct-2004 9:27pm what a sweetie! |
| caviartaste | posted 23-Oct-2004 10:02pm I don't have any... |
| ROCKMAN | posted 24-Oct-2004 8:23am Sure, why not? |
| che | posted 24-Oct-2004 12:12pm I would only do that if I new the couple well. Other than that I would not because I see myself responsible for that child. Just for the fact of having a child in the world created by me in his teenage years is scary enough. |
| thresholdking | posted 24-Oct-2004 11:25pm No be my luck they would divorce, and she would somehow sue me for child support.. |
| southernyankee | posted 25-Oct-2004 1:35am yes, depending on how much money they wire me. |
| killme1042 | posted 25-Oct-2004 9:29am It all depends on the people who want it. If I knew them and they have desperatley trying to have a child for a really long time and they really wanted them maybe. Also to take into consideration if my husband and I wanted to have a child i dont think I would give my ovum. But if I knew them and I knew that they were generally good people i would definatly give them it. |
| autumnlight | posted 26-Oct-2004 4:21pm Yes, I would definitely do that. |
| cB | posted 27-Oct-2004 2:51pm I just got a call back from a "Cryobank" a couple weeks ago to donate sperm. $50 a week! Easy money, and I'm glad to help any couples in need. |
| juliw | (reply to reevee) posted 27-Oct-2004 6:34pm Amen to that! I read in today's newspaper that some woman and her boyfriend killed her 14-month-old child by breaking her neck on purpose, and doing a lot of other very sick and abusive things to her
There must be a special kind of Hell for people like that!! |
| Irene007 | posted 27-Oct-2004 11:18pm No. It doesn't feel right to me. |
| Irene007 | (reply to Maarten) posted 27-Oct-2004 11:26pm > Sure. Especially because I have super sperm that makes beautiful kids.
> I hope SC is still around in 15 years! I sure would like to see her then! Is Laura from WhoVille? She reminds me of that cute little girl in Doctor Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. [full]
I think it's the eyes! |
| Maarten | (reply to Irene007) posted 28-Oct-2004 3:21am Damn... now you know our secret... Yes, we kidnapped the little girl from WhoVille... please don't tell anyone! |
| reevee | (reply to juliw) posted 28-Oct-2004 4:42am I just don't understand. What could a child possibly do that warrants that kind of brutality? It just breaks my heart. I'm torn between wanting to see the couple killed the exact same way or giving them a life sentence where their crime is well known because even prisoners have standards and they will surely be punished accordingly. |
| Irene007 | (reply to Maarten) posted 28-Oct-2004 7:21am Grinch! Put her back!! |
| Maarten | (reply to Irene007) posted 28-Oct-2004 4:39pm He will never ever find us... |
| juliw | (reply to reevee) posted 28-Oct-2004 5:53pm Actually, I think that in cases like that, we should go back to the "an eye for an eye" way of doing things. That is, do the exact same things to the couple! |
| Irene007 | (reply to Maarten) posted 28-Oct-2004 6:31pm OK then just keep posting pictures so we know that she's fine! |
| docgbrown | posted 17-Jul-2006 8:45am Yes, and I have donated my sperm. I got $85 a pop for it. Yes, my wife knows about that part of my past and doesn't mind if I do it again. |
