Do you feel that the old proverb, "A watched pot never boils," is true?

...eventually it does, though it takes the same exact time as if the pot is not watched. Time is relative, if you're doing nothing, then the seconds crawl.

No. I tested that theory and the watched pot does boil. In fact using identical pots of water I compared to see if the watched pot even took longer to come to a boil, and the results were the same; both pots boiled at precisely the same time. It was around this time that I decided that my mother was completely full of crap! * grin *

Yes. And in my case, the unwatched pot doesn't boil either because my stove is very old and doesn't heat very well.

It seems like it will take forever but it does boil as long as you put enough heat under it.

The expression is not meant to be taken literally. It's hyperbole; "never" is an exaggeration to make the point that it seems to take forever when you do nothing but wait for it.

No, it isn't true. It's the same as the 'statistic' about married men living longer. They don't. It just *feels* longer.

Actually that one is true. I think it has something to do with the typical bachelor's diet of lager and greasy take-away...and their tendency to engage in dangerous sports and diversions followed by the avoidance of medical care.
