| kirst | posted 26-Sep-2004 9:50am Never played it, don't know that much about it...probably not fair but selected "only dorks play this"... |
| EyesOfCharisma | posted 26-Sep-2004 10:13am I used to play this a lot with an x boyfriend of mine, it was a lot of fun for everyone to get together and play... Plus it was nice to get to use my imagination... |
| thevelvetcure | posted 26-Sep-2004 11:33am I've played D&D only a few times in my life, but I enjoyed it. It's a good escape...oh yeah, and satanic too 666 |
| darkshadowsseeker | posted 26-Sep-2004 12:29pm I have played D & D in the past, but I have no feelings either way about it. My son currently plays D & D and other RPG games, in fact he had a role playing session just this last Friday. |
| Enheduanna | posted 26-Sep-2004 1:45pm I don't really have any feelings about it one way or the other. I've never played it. I guess I think it's a little geeky, but I don't look down on people who play it. My brother and his friends used to play it, and my mother was the dungeon master. |
| dora | posted 26-Sep-2004 2:52pm It's ok. I like other RPG's better, but it's a long time since I last played.

| pandora | posted 26-Sep-2004 3:20pm I hate it with a fiery passion, just like I hate all that other junk. Bleh. But it's funny when my friend Ben talks about it in his special D&D nerd voice. |
| dab | posted 26-Sep-2004 3:30pm I neither like nor dislike D&D. I know what it is but I've never played the game. |
| bill | posted 26-Sep-2004 3:37pm I played it when I was a kid some. I don't really like it that much these days, but I have a lot of respect for what it was, in its time. Many of the modern games that I like derive elements from D&D, so I have to respect that. |
| Frostbrand | posted 26-Sep-2004 4:21pm I don't get to play it often enouigh, though I had greta fun with my last character. A half-orc Wizard Slayer (A fighter kit that gives you major bonuses in fighitng magical characters, but with the draw back that you can't use any magic potions or rings yourself), level 19, who had two long swords, one that did +6 vs. Evil aligned characters and allowed you to cast Sunray spell once a day (great for killing vampires), and the second gave you a +4 to hit and damage on wizards, AND had a cumulative effect of disrupting a spellcasters chances of casting a spell succesfully. He also had armor that gave him a -3 to his armor class, plus a 30% bonus to all saving throws. |
| EyesOfCharisma | (reply to Frostbrand) posted 26-Sep-2004 4:25pm my kind of man....rawr... |
| Zang | posted 26-Sep-2004 4:34pm I used to play when I was about 13 to 17, which was 1975 to 1979. I selected the option: "Only dorks play this." |

| EyesOfCharisma | posted 26-Sep-2004 5:30pm hopefully, you are easier to take advantage of that way |
| gambler | posted 26-Sep-2004 8:26pm Heard of it, but never played |
| southernyankee | posted 26-Sep-2004 11:11pm I dislike the game for various reasons. I played it before, but it get's too old too fast. First off, there's too many rules, even though there really are none, because the DM makes them up anyway. And it all depends on who the DM. Most of my friends turned into real butt-holes real quick as soon as they became DMs. And I never got to be one.
Anyway, no, you cant become a level 5 cleric, because by the time you get 4th level, the DM decides the game is too fudging boring and will have you battle a 30th level warrior or somthing. |
| they | posted 27-Sep-2004 3:19am The dork option. |
| icurok | posted 27-Sep-2004 6:27am It's not really a game as such, more a set of rules and principles underlying the ability to tell a story. As such, it's only as good as the story and the people telling it.
I can understand why some people might regard it is a cringeworthy dorkathon, but it really doesn't have to be. When I used to play it, our GM was the most popular kid in school. He was a member of the running team, girls went nuts over him and yet he liked nothing better than getting a ton of beers in and organising a 10 hour RPG session on a weekend. I loved the creativity, the imagination, the stories, the violence, the plot twists, the building tension, the lateral thinking, the challenges, the gore, valiant sacrifices and that feeling you get when you realise that your character actually kicks ass. What makes D&D really boring is an over-reliance on figures and floormaps (instead of seeing the action in your head) and generic dungeon adventures that don't have any point to them. That demo was rubbish. |
| ROCKMAN | posted 27-Sep-2004 7:18am I have heard of it but never played it. |
| Galomorro | posted 27-Sep-2004 9:21am Role-playing games do not appeal to me. I'm a Scrabble person, and sometimes, if I can find one easy enough that I don't get immediately "killed," an action game that I can play by myself (or myself and the computer as I do in Scrabble). |
| EyesOfCharisma | (reply to icurok) posted 27-Sep-2004 9:36am I agree to the demo being rubbish, but since I needed something to help explain, and something to get it through qual. for the people who never heard of it, I added it... Sowwy |
| icurok | (reply to EyesOfCharisma) posted 27-Sep-2004 9:56am That's ok I actually grew out of D&D pretty quickly as it was so limited and combat oriented. AD&D was slightly better. But Warhammer was always the best fantasy RPG. The thing that always bothered me about D&D was that you could get to the stage where your character had so many hit points, you could have 10 arrows sticking out of you and not even notice. With the 'wounds' system in Warhammer you couldn't just play it 'hack n slash' all the time, but had to think your way through a problem. |
| EyesOfCharisma | (reply to icurok) posted 27-Sep-2004 10:21am I have never played Warhammer, allthough many friends tried to get me to do it... I said "when I get D&D down, then talk to me about Warhammer. Yeah, id have to say the most irritating thing about d&d, is spending so much time making a charecter, and having it get eaten by a platinum dragon. We did a "Hell campaign" where we all got sent to hell, and had to fight every single kind of dragon there was, and it took forever, and he had some pretty disturbing story lines. Like this one, I found a guy chained up, with whip marks all over him, and I took tons of time trying to free this guy, I was a good character... When I finally free'd him... He got eaten, and I started crying literally, I was like you jerk, and I walked away from the table. LOL. So yeah that is what I dont like, we all ended up dying anyways. But there were some very interesting times we played and such. One time we had a personality disorder campaign, and you had to play like that, mine for example was a obssesive compulsive fighter. So after each hit, he would have to stop and clean off his sword, made it fun.... Ever play Everquest?? |
| Jody | posted 27-Sep-2004 11:34am I really enjoy it as a social experience - I've never taken it too seriously. I've been playing with the same group for the past 15 years (not all the same characters, though). |
| Tazwert | posted 27-Sep-2004 2:45pm I am Indifferent about D & D. |
| moonstone | posted 27-Sep-2004 8:45pm i actually saw the movie on dvd at walmart the other day, anyone see it? is it good? |
| EyesOfCharisma | (reply to moonstone) posted 27-Sep-2004 10:57pm I have never seen it, but I don't believe it was any good, from what I hear. |
| Frostbrand | (reply to EyesOfCharisma) posted 28-Sep-2004 3:16am That movie wasn;t based on the game, it was based on the cover of the box the game came in. That movie was so bad it made Phantoms look like Shakespere In Love. |
| moonstone | (reply to EyesOfCharisma) posted 28-Sep-2004 6:55am i don't even remember it being in the theater for very long, i think i saw a commercial on tv for it maybe once, then didn't hear anything about it again...i kind of have a feeling that it sucks. |
| Danger | posted 28-Sep-2004 2:34pm I'm okay with D&D, but I don't play it (I have many friends who do though, and they aren't dorks). |
| LuridHope | posted 29-Sep-2004 9:06pm D&D is only as bad as the DM... or good |
| caviartaste | posted 3-Oct-2004 9:10pm I like Dungeons and Dragons because I have fond memories of high school er uhm...someone elses' high school days..(I didn't play in my high school days)...we would all gather in their basement while they played........ it was a central gathering place... |
| Biggles | posted 5-Oct-2004 3:21pm I would rather the dragons were in the dungeons than the other way around. |
| Iseult | posted 8-Oct-2004 11:16pm My feelings towards DnD are absolutely sincere, I am in love with DnD. We're getting married next Thursday. |
