I don't really like spaghetti much, especially now that I'm a vegetarian. In general I prefer it with toppings as opposed to sauces.

I would probably like it best with meatballs, but I seldom have it that way. It's so much easier to just put meat in the sauce, especially since I tend to think of spaghetti at the last minute and want to fix it as quickly as possible. In fact, I think I'll go get some ground beef out of the freezer and make some spaghetti now....

Mmm, meat balls. I just love sitting down to tender, juicy meat balls. There's a slight chance that could be misinterpreted. What I mean is that when I've got those balls in my mouth, my tongue undulates in waves of culinary ecstasy. * raspberry *

I've tried it all my friend! * wink * My husband really loves spaghetti in any concoction, so we're constantly experimenting. I just don't like the combination of the feel of the noodle without the taste of meat. Childhood conditioning or something! * grin * We do eat a lot of interesting combinations with bowtie noodles though. Yummy.

Bow tie noodles are great, I remember my mom used to always make stroganoff with them, however, since I've become a quasi vegetarian (I do eat poultry, less and less as the days go by), I can't think of any dishes using them though. It would be alot easier if I enjoyed cold pastas, but I don't, so needless to say I don't allow myself to enjoy them * frown *

Sure! I'm afraid it won't be exact, but I'd love to have you try it!

Get some water boiling for 8 to 12 ounces of pasta
Mince a couple of cloves of garlic, slice about 8 ounces of mushrooms.
Heat a good splash of olive oil into a frying pan and heat it over medium or medium high. When it's hot add the garlic and mushrooms, and stir it around a bit at first, and then every now and then until the mushrooms are as soft as you'd like them.

Whenever the water for the pasta is boiling, go ahead and add it, as long as your mushrooms are on their way to being done.

When the mushrooms are done, add a couple of big handfuls of spinach to the mushrooms and garlic. It'll wilt down really quickly, just stir slowly-and if you want to add more once you see how it is cooked down, go ahead!

Turn your veggies down to low, give them some salt and pepper if you'd like, and go and chop about 10-12 cherry tomatoes in half, or chunks of larger tomatoes could work too.

You may want to/need to drain some liquid off of the spinach/mushroom mix, I always do, just try to do that very close to the end of the pasta's cooking time.

Drain your pasta, throw it back into the pot, and then add the sauteed veggie mixture, along with 8 ounces of basil tomato feta cheese. It's available in most stores around here, probably is in Florida too.

You could probably add some onion to this is as well, if you wanted to. I would just start it with the garlic and mushrooms.

Well, I hope that made some sense, and if you have any questions, ask away!

I'm glad you like my pic! It's based on the sacred geometry of the Flower of Life. If you look that up, you'll find a lot of new-age stuff that can sound pretty ridiculous, but there's a lot of great info to be absorbed in those circles. You've just encouraged me to start rotating the image I keep under my name. Thanks! I can't say how often I'll do it or that each piece will be equally impressive, but keep an eye out.

I think you really have to be completely gone for a while before anyone notices. But it probably depends on how involved you are in the first place. Popping in certainly discourages anyone from thinking that you are really gone.

No, things aren't blossoming. In fact, I suspect it's all over. I haven't had an email for a week, and the last one was a bit terse. I guess these long-distance things are hard to keep together. I don't have much experience at that. I'm really not that bothered about it. We barely had any time together as it was. She was spending 75-80% of her time up north working. I don't think we really had enough time to get that close.

It looks like she's just really stressed out and possibly took it out on me a little and then I took it the wrong way. I don't know. This long-distance thing is hardly optimum. We haven't been able to talk for a while, so that might help a lot.

Funny... As most of my family is from the Outawais region (Near the capital), most are civil servants! My Dad was with Parks Canada, his brother was President of the CLSC in QC, my cousin is a translator for the government, her brother is a recruiter for the army, her other brother is in system management, my sister is with Senate Security and the list goes on...

My husband and I are both in the printing industry which is probably why our marriage lasted. My family never understood why he would sometimes work more than 100 hours in a week and never be there, I do. When a job is scheduled to be on press; it better be on time! Now when I work overtime, late on Fridays when we're supposed to be leaving for the country, Ben never says a word - he understands...

It takes a special breed for this industry as it takes another for civil service - we just won't mention what KIND of person that is. All I can think of is when my sister (the one in Ottawa) called me at work late one afternoon; I was piled chin deep in work and she just wanted to chat. I kept on hearing a tinkle in the background so I asked her what it was. She said it was the ice in her glass of Grand Marnier... I dunno - this seems to go beyond perks that come with the job. I told her to never look out her window in the morning or else she'd have nothing to do in the afternoon!

(reply to Irene007) posted 7-Oct-2004 8:48pm
I used to deal with civil servants when I worked in property management; one of the projects I managed was leased about 55% by provincial government ministries. So you don't have to tell me about civil servants. My sister-in-law has a few in her family as well...and some of my brother's friends...

Printing must be a tough/competitive business these days, what with everyone having their own printers...one of my former roommates was a printer, that was a few years back. He said the industry was really tightening up at the time; a lot of companies going out of business. I guess if you find your niche...
