Describe one thing that is within an arm's reach of you in as much detail as possible.

It can be anything - excluding yourself (but see here) - provided you can touch it with your hand from where you are right now. Some details you might wish to include are size, weight, shape, colour, function, texture, material, temperature, the sound it makes when you hit it against something wooden...etc.

It is white, has two buttons, a wheel inbetween them. It has a red light at one end and a wire coming out the other. It also has a lazer inside of it.

It's silver and black, it has 2 parts, it has a black cord and a gray cord attached to it, it's an elongated oval shape, the silver section has 4 buttons and a clear panel on one side and and 16 buttons on the other side and the silver side has a slight curve to it. The black side sits on the desk and holds the silver side. The black side has two round depressions on either end of it. It's function is for communication. It's made of plastic and is fairly light-weight. It makes a trilling noise. It's roughly 6 inches long (I'm guessing), but there is nothing wooden close enough to hit it against. It's texture is smooth.

It is just over 2 feet long, weighs about 17 pounds, beige, soft and warm, with soft curly dark hair, very cute, kissable and cuddly, a great hugsnuggler, and I'm NOT going to hit it against wood!

ok, i have a tea mug within arms reach that has a white background and big cartoon pictures on either side of goofy(disney goofy) and GOOFY is written on the handle(in case you weren't sure, i guess). it is about 4-5 inches tall and the same across. it's a BIG mug. it is ceramic and smooth. it is very hot because there is HOT tea in it. it "clunks" when hit against something wooden and then there is a splash sound from the liquid coming over the lip.

Awright, first thing came to mind - HP 1730 flat screen monitor. Silver color, maybe 17" screen. hp symbol on top. It rotates from landscape to portrait angles. twin speakers. red company property tag in lower right corner. IMO pretty poor screen resolution - kinda fuzzy. But, I didn't choose it.

It is about 13" x 11", green and white with lines and boxes, containing student names and grades.

I was walking down Indian Rd, and some moron threw books out. So, since it was a day and many people were walking around, I thought 'Why, shouldn't I come back at night and take the whole box?' But then I realized that someone else might come before me and get good books, so I scavanged around and picked up a copy of The Exorcist by William P. Blatty (among many other books, too many to list... as many as I could carry). Anyway, it's a regular size book. The covers are purple with white text (I assume that font is Arial). It's old and it's got ... I REALLY can't remember the word, but you know when the edges are folded? Is it called rabbit ears or something? The paper is yellow. It has that old book smell, like dusty breeze, but not the smell of a book that's too old (in that case, it would smell like that gunk you get under your toe nails... and I'm not joking about this, that's what really old books smell like).

I am kicked back on the couch with a laptop - so within arms reach is the pillow my head is on...it's a regular bed pillow - queen sized overstuffed fiber filled firm pillow with a 250 thread count sky blue pillow case on it. It's soft and comfy and just right for propping up on. I like to prop against fiber pillows and sleep on feather ones!

It's a block of clear glass I bought at a fair recently. It has a three dimensional laser etching of a hummingbird at a flower. It's smooth, with a square base and is about 2 times taller than the base is wide, maybe 3 inches high with a 1.5x15. inch base. The corners have a bevel on the tall sides. It's got a nice weight to it, maybe 2lbs. It would make a good paper weight.

My grapefruit is scraped clean of all its flesh. The other half is sitting next to it, also scraped clean. The insides are pink, with white flecks where I got really zealous while eating it. The leftover rind sits in a partially opaque pink bowl, which comes a half an inch above the grapefruit's two inch tall rind. It tasted really yummy about ten minutes ago.

On my desk, next to my laptop is a page of white A4 paper with yesterday's Guardian cryptic crossword printed out on it (which I had a go at whilst eating my lunch yesterday). I've doodled with black biro over a lot of the space at the side and written out words in a circular formation in order to figure out any anagrams more easily. It was set by 'Rover'. There's a banner advert at the top for a financial self help book and there is a date stamp at the bottom. There are 14 across clues and 14 down clues and 5 are incomplete as I got stumped with the bottom left hand corner. There were some standard easy clues that I got straight away "Material mined from blast area (9)" = Alabaster. There were also a couple of sneakily esoteric clues that I was pleased with myself for getting "Poor excuse given by MP for missing vote (8)" = Impaired.

A piece of paper, about 4 by 5 inches. It's from an Escher calendar that I have - one page per weekday and one page to cover both days of the weekend. This is a weekend page. It is black and grey type on a white background. It says "M.C. ESCHER" in black at the top, and that is mirrored by the same in grey type. It has the month at the top as well. Then there is a double line across the whole page. Underneath, there are three columns. In the first column it says "Saturday 4" and beneath that are a series of horizontal lines for writing on. Beneath those it says "Plane-filling motif with reptiles, 1941. Woodcut, 4 7/8 x 6 1/8 in." That refers to the contents of the next column which is a small picture of two lizards in black and white and an almost ying yang presentation except that they are enclosed in a rectangle, not a circle. That picture is in the centre of the page. Above it is a quote from Escher: "If one quantity cannot be compared with another, then no quanitity exists. There is no "black" on its own, or "white" either." In the final column, it says "Sunday 5" above a series of lines and beneath those it says "All MC Escher's works and text [copyright symbol] Cordon Art BV Baarn, The Netherlands. All rights reserved. MC Escher is a registered trademark of Cordon Art BV."

On the back of the piece of paper I have made some notes using a black biro. It says "Reflection of crane in the window. Watch it absently, but then...." Beneath that is Iseult's first name and her email address.

It's the mouse for my computer. It's got a white plastic core encased in clear plastic, and has a small gray apple logo on it. It has a long white cord coming out one end, connecting it to my keyboard. It has little finger-grip spots on the side which aren't really grippy so much as not grippy. It has a red optical light thingy on the bottom.

I'm pretty sure a lot of others would say this: my computer keyboard--a black Dell keyboard with the characters engraved in white on the keys with the Dell logo at the top center. The Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock LED indicators at the top right hand corner are in green. *smile*

It's black with gray letters. It's about 10-15 oz. It has a smooth texture. It is shaped like the bottom of my foot (the heel half). It makes a "wap" sound when it is hit against the table (which is wooden). It has a little rubber ball in the middle of it and it rolls smoothly across the table. The object is made out of plastic though.

My bright blue, 200-page Hilroy notebook. It's standard size, coil-bound, and about 3/4 full. A few of the pages have been ripped out. It's filled mainly with lists of useless information, with the occasional serious thing here and there.
