Do you want a monkey?

A recent comment by drdt included the line "Haven't you always wanted a monkey?" I started to say "Yes. Yes, I have always wanted a monkey. How did you know?" Then I thought that maybe everyone has always wanted a monkey. Then it occurred to me that there exists a way to address this question.

Everybody has something to hide, except me and my monkey.

I've hung around pet monkeys. I mostly find them kind of sad.

Just curious: what is the appeal of monkeys? What would you do with them? Why are they preferable to other pets?

Now I want a living dead monkey.

When I was very little my family owned a spider monkey. I do not really recall much about him except that he was quite a pain in the butt. I am sure if he was treated correctly he might have been nice.

I did a net search hoping to find a living dead monkey plush toy, but all I found was this song...

I think that we have domesticated enough animals already. Monkeys are wild animals that should continue to live in the wild. I've heard that pet monkeys tend to get mean as they get older, causing a lot of owners to 'get rid of them'-whatever that means. I would not want a pet monkey and I don't think other people should have them either.

"Haven't you always wanted a monkey" is one of my favorite song lyrics. It's right up there with "But not a real green dress, that's cruel" ...

I do have a MOnkey. His name is Robert and i put him on a leash and do dirty things with him. I'm actually a MOnkey® too and many of my friends are.

My friend actually had a monkey. It pooped all over the place, smelled bad, and scratched people a lot. They ended up sending it to live with her cousins on a farm in Louisiana. It was *really* cute though.

I am a monkey - well, a golden lion tamarin. For those of you who like 'em cause they're cute.

When I was a kid I thought it would be really cool to have a pet monkey. Now I realize that it would take way more time and attention than I could possibly give it, and my feelings about domesticating wild animals has changed. I really don't think it's fair to the animal.
