| North79 | posted 15-Mar-1999 12:44pm No, I was always the 'lookout' when I was in junior high delinquency stage of life. I could never bring myself to actually do the act myself. |
| presti | posted 15-Mar-1999 1:17pm I stole a pair of sparkle shoelaces when I was in 4th grade. My mother caught me because she knew exactly how much money I had. When she saw those shoe laces in my sneakers... SHE FLIPPED! I had to return them to the store and explain how I stole them. |
| drdt | posted 15-Mar-1999 2:19pm I once pocketed a candy bar in a department store, but didn't have the nerve to walk out with it. But by then I was back with my mother and I couldn't figure out how to get it out of my pocket and back on a shelf (*any* shelf) without her seeing... I finally had to keep it, and I was terrified all the way out to the car. It was good, though. |
| steve | posted 15-Mar-1999 2:29pm Not really, but I've accepted an item that I was undercharged for on a couple of occasions. |
| bill | posted 16-Mar-1999 7:59am I once stole a book by accident from a bookstore. I had picked it up, read it a little and decided to buy it. But then stayed in the store for a while longer, and thus had put the book in a pocket so that I could use both my hands to look at other books. Later, outside the store, I found the book in my pocket. I didn't go back in to pay for it. I think I was 13 or so. |
| phi | posted 17-Mar-1999 8:04am I don't recall having shoplifted but I did have a tendency to steal little things (pencil stubs and the like) as a small child. Whenever I go to a certain architectural and graphics supply store at which certain Survey Central users used to work I am overcome by an urge to shoplift. Random items appear in my pockets and I have to make a conscious effort to put them back on the shelves. The merchandise display by the door seems to beckon to me. It's bizarre. I solve this problem by not going in there any more. |

| wanda78 | posted 17-Mar-1999 10:26pm When I was a kid, I stole a little purple elephant eraser from a store, it was only about 25 cents, but still, I stole it! |
| steve | posted 17-Mar-1999 10:30pm Charrette seems to have that effect on a lot of people I know. Maybe their Electropsychic Anti-Theft Device is tuned 180° out of phase. |

| pandora | posted 27-Mar-1999 8:50pm Once I stole a hair band (the kind that come in a package of fifty, but I only took one) because I needed one that day, and I stole some chocolate chips from a little dish at the fro-yo stand when I was about 10. Other than, nothing that I can think of. I wish I was braver, because I would probably steal a lot, but I guess that's not really good, but I do enjoy free stuff. |

When I was much younger I stole a lot of small things - any individual item was not worth much, but I stole in very large quantities. Why I did it I'm not entirely sure about. I had a deal with myself if I got caught I'd quit - my friend got us caught by an off-duty cop when I was with him, so I quit and was never tempted again.
