Last time I watched Dr. Strangelove I notice a highly recognizable voice coming from one of the crewmen in the airplane. A much younger James Earl Jones! Very cool.

Requiescat in pacem. I've only seen a couple, but I liked Dr. Strangelove.

Strangelove is a classic. Jody, the exact same thing happened to me. Hey, that's Darth Vader or the Bell Atlantic guy or the CNN guy!

I haven't yet seen any of Kubricks films, I know him well by reputation and there are several of his films considered classics that I *really* want to see, just haven't got around to it.

It's a real loss that he died :(

Kubrick lived about 5 miles from where I lived ( St.Albans ). Also, Clockwork Orange was banned in the UK. Does anyone know why ???

Wicksy - interesting about Clockwork Orange being banned - I didn't know that. I just discovered recently that the book had been published minus the last original chapter for years - and I just got to read it. It makes the ending much less cynical, yet it was intended by the author to complete the book all along!

Wicksy: I just read an obituary article which said that the movie wasn't banned in the UK, but he got so much hate mail and so many death threats from people who had seen it that he pulled it from UK distribution and refused to allow it to be shown there.

drdt : why was there outrage over the film. What was so controversial about it ?

Wiksy - it's a very violent film with a lot of gang-like violence and rape and sexual violence in it.

Dr. Strangelove is my favorite, but A Clockwork Orange is his best. I'm waiting for Eyes Wide Shut, but not in anticipation of its being enough better than his others to warrant not voting for anything else.

Wicksy: I think romkey's statement really doesn't really convey what's so controversial about this movie. Yes, it's violent and graphic. So are a lot of other movies. But it's violent and graphic in an emotionally involving way, which makes it much more disturbing than, say, Robocop.
