Neither, they are wild animals that should not be kept as pets and they eat mosquitos so they are good to have around!!! |

They are great for the ecosystem. Neither pets or pests. |

Bats eat pests
I was sitting by the American River in Sacramento one twilight and a couple bats kept flying around me...came so close...it was so amazing... |

GUANO!!! |

Neither. I think it would be cool to have one as a pet, but I imagine the bats prefer to be free. They're far from being pests though. They eat a lot of bugs! |

I don't think pet is the right word, but beneficial cohabitants of our natural environment. |

ever since i saw ford's comment about the bat houses, i've been looking over my yard thinking of good places for houses.
i LOVE bats, and i'd like to see more of my little winged night friends gather in our yard |

Neither. Don't they eat mosquitos? |
| FordGuy | | posted 11-Jun-2004 8:59am |
Bats are awesome. They eat thousands of insects every night. I will never live without bats. |

Too ooky looking for my taste to be pets. |

Neither, personally. I'm sure there are plenty of people who consider them to be one or the other, though. |

neither, a helpful wild creature! |

Wild animals that eat mosquitoes, therefore neither. |
| Biggles | | posted 11-Jun-2004 11:16am |
I don't think they should be kept as pets - handling them can easily hurt them. Nor are they pests most of the time, although they can be. |

Both.
One bat is a pet. And a cute and useful one at that.
But maybe a colony of bats in your living room...though I'm not 100% sure.

A pet, doesn't mean putting them in a cage or at home.
I mean simply that you can be friendly with a bat, and he will know you..sort of like stray cats. |

Neither. They should not be kept as pets.
They are wild animals, and should be left alone.
They are not pests - cos they keep the insect population to a reasonable level.
Bats are wonderful. |

natural mosquito control. Build bathouses!!! Control your mosquito population!!!! |

Have you ever had one trapped in your own home? You open the front door nice and wide and they do not have the sense to just leave. |
| EddieT321 | | (reply to justjulie) posted 11-Jun-2004 8:33pm |
Those blue blooded creatures would depreciate the value of you property quite nicely. |
Irene007 | | posted 11-Jun-2004 8:50pm |
Neither. I like them around but I'd rather they stay out of my house!! |
| heyzeus1 | | posted 11-Jun-2004 11:22pm |
neither. bats are just animals. |
| saintange | | posted 12-Jun-2004 5:06pm |
Pets. Many years ago, in high school, a little bat came by chance in my class and there remained for a week, sleeping on the ceiling light. We gave him/her flies and meat . Very cute and smart! Our teachers were not so glad tough, maybe because the bat used to sleep during the lessons. |

Both, I am a firm believer that any animal can be tamed with enough love, attention and authority. Good survey. |

They don't make very good pets because of the rabies-carrying thing, and they sure aren't pests. If it weren't for bats, many parts of this country would be much more bug-infested than it already is! Many people have an irrational fear of bats, mainly because of that stupid late 70s movie, and of the unfortunate, widespread knowlege of the name "Vampire bat". Bats are no more harmful than birds. |
