Are you rich?

In this case, rich is refered to material value. Not rich in goodness, not rich in good looks, not rich because you have a wonderful family, but rich because you have $$$.

You can take liberty of setting precedents for rich yourself, because we all come from different backgrounds.

There was a time in my life when I could delude myself that I might be sort of "middle-class". Ahh those were the days! I'd have to be making at least five times what I do now before I would consider myself "rich".

Though I understand your point, one can be rich and in debt.... I'd guess that there are probably very few rich people who don't carry any debt.

You might be rich and in debt if you own significant property, estate or investments. I have my laptop, which by now is only worth a few hundred, and that's about all I own that would bring me any significant money if sold. My investment is in my education, which has the potential to make me rich but it certainly hasn't done so yet! * smile *

No, in fact I am the opposite of rich. I am moving out on my own in the world for the first time in my life with a teenage daughter to support. Rent is sky high, utilities too. I am so afraid I am not going to be able to afford to keep us fed....... BUT!!!!!!I am working full time and I have never been so excited in my whole life and I know that I will do whatever it takes to make it out there in the big bad world.........without any kind of assistance. Even if I have to take on a second job. * grin *
Being rich would rob me of this chance to see what I am really made of. I'll be rich later, ok?

Oh, I see. It's priority based. When you need something, you only think about what you need. When you have what you need, then you can think about what you want.

I guess 'rich' is a relative term. Compared to the 'average' person out there, definitely compared to anyone in 3rd world countries, and probably alot of people here I would be considered rich. But by standards of where I live I am poor. An 'average' 4 bedroom house in the town I work in is $900,000. And that's a cheap house in an older neighborhood. That's why I drive over 50 miles each way to work. To have the same home for under $300k.

That's not much by American standards. I think the average American is over $20,000 dollars in debt, mainly from credit cards. That's why I only have one, with a $500 limit.

Well, I'm not really old enough to be too much in debt. Especially as my parents support me during my vacations from university when I live with them. By the time I've done my PhD, then I'll be in some serious debt!
